Chapter 55: Savior
When Max arrived outside of the Command Hall, Lieutenant Garrick was already waiting for him. freewebnøvel.coɱ
He stood outside, with other C-rank and D-rank warriors lining beside him.
Max stood in front of him with a solemn expression, as the citizens of the Greyfen Village slowly gathered, erupting with thunderous cheers.
"SAVIOR!!!"
"SAVIOR!!!"
"SAVIOR!!!"
Their gathering interrupted every player’s quest and training, compelling them to join in the crowd but remained silent throughout.
Jaden and Julian gazed at Max with solemn expression—Max earning the recognition of the entire village was definitely not a simple matter.
They watched from a distance as Lieutenant Garrick made his speech.
"For a decade, we failed to reclaim the watchtower. The ongoing threat of a greater demon and his army forced us to rely on small group of people to avoid getting their attention every attempt.
But now, the savior had not only killed the powerful demon inside, he also neutralized the rift residue crystal, the very object that constantly provide concentrated demonic energy in the watch tower.
In other words... the watchtower is finally reclaimed!"
The citizens exploded with deafening acclamation.
When they saw Max handed out a destabilized rift residue crystal, as well as imperial remains he found, to the Lieutenant, their voices intensified. They extended their arms and waved them around enthusiastically.
Some players, on the other hand were impressed, but most were displeased. As far as they know, Max only brought a single player and that player had yet to release a statement in the social media.
She was popular, her followers soared when she announced she’d be accompanying Max to the village-level quest.
But now not only she wasn’t with Max, she seemed to have just disappeared.
They conspired that Max killed her in the game and threatened to make her silent about what had transpired.
Jaden and Julian fueled the controversy by concurring Max’s personality as a selfish, greedy, and arrogant individual.
No matter what it was, Max’s accomplishment was something that Apocalypse Online had recognized.

Max wasn’t excited. He was simply relieved that he had completed his job.
Though he was delighted that he was now Level 79. It would only be a matter of time before he reached Level 100 and finally has his second-class advancement. By then, once he became a Summoner, he could now complete the legacy class quest and became a powerful Summoner.
For now, he set his sights in increasing the proficiency in his skills before leveling up to solidify his foundation.
Max ordered the system to show his current status.

Now that he was Level 79, he was displeased about the proficiency of his skills. At his current level, every active skill should be at the intermediate level, with the leading skills at the advanced level, including his passive skills.
As he was lost in thoughts, Lieutenant Garrick interrupted his rumination, "What are you thinking seriously about?"
Max raised his eyebrows. He stared at the lieutenant and was about to reply when Lieutenant Garrick said, "Shouldn’t you relax for a bit? You’ll get to kill a lot of demons soon. For now, we should celebrate."
Lieutenant Garrick’s tone turned joyful when he said the last sentence. At the same time, Max received a notification that his relationship status with the lieutenant has increased to Ally level.
However, Max wasn’t impressed by the idea of celebration. The job wasn’t done, the demons weren’t eradicated. Small achievement should not be exaggerated.
He replied with a polite tone, "Excuse me for my rudeness, Lieutenant, but I already decided to spend my time training. I can’t join you with celebrations."
Lieutenant were taken aback. It was completely out of his expectations for Max to reject the celebration. Staring at his solemn expression, he finally understood the subtlety of his words.
He patted his shoulder and said, "I know what you feel, but your helplessness shouldn’t contribute to the idea that you need to grow stronger fast. Having a celebration is also to boost morale for the citizens, who will continue to fight against the beast and demon invasion."
Max didn’t reply, his silence and solemn expression already conveyed how resolute he was.
Lieutenant sighed. "Alright. I won’t force you. However, I hope you’ll still be present in the evening. We can’t celebrate without your presence even for a bit.
Go wave at them."
Max nodded and did as he was told. He waved at them, intensifying the thunderous cheers of the citizens.
Even those reluctant players had no choice but to clap, as the citizens glared at them. If they refused to go along, they were certain that obtaining quests from them would become even more difficult.
Once Max felt it was enough, he slowly walked forward, having the crowd paving a path for him.
His next destination was the Arcane Cottage.
And he already decided he would not leave at all until Archmage Arlen would finally travel back to the capital city...

A/N: There’s miscalculation. Greater Demon is equivalent to B-Rank. I apologized for the inconvenience.
