Chapter 96: Chapter 94: We Only Want the Ship
Control of the icebreaker meant control over a sliver of hope for survival. No one wanted to entrust their lives to a group of Asians.
Even if Jiang Si and her companion had saved them, they had no right to make such an unreasonable demand.
This was the arrogant opinion of most people there.
They failed to consider that this was the apocalypse. The very act of saving them and sharing supplies was already a massive favor.
Jack feigned helplessness with a wave of his hand. "It was all to save your lives. If I hadn’t agreed, you might all be dead already."
"Dead? Don’t be ridiculous! As long as we had medicine, there was no way we would have died!"
The speaker was a short, curly-haired man named Mike, the doctor for the Antarctic Research Team. He loathed yellow-skinned dogs more than anyone.
’Now that everyone was alive and well, he could have easily treated everyone by himself.’
The dark-skinned Tom was even more arrogant, pointing at the spot between Qin Shen’s eyes. "We are the owners of this icebreaker. We can take you out to sea, and you saved us. That’s a fair trade. You want the ship? That’s impossible."
In this frigid world, the icebreaker was the most precious resource.
Jiang Si knew this, which was why she had chosen to treat them in exchange for the icebreaker.
Now that they were backing out of the deal, there was no way Jiang Si would let them have their way.
Jiang Si looked at Jack. "Move the icebreaker forward to load the supplies."
’Jack knew her plan. Once they moved the ship, she’d force everyone off and take it for herself.’
Fearing the gun Jiang Si carried, he shifted his gaze to Tom.
Tom was annoyed by Jiang Si’s commanding tone and said belligerently, "I’m the captain. I call the shots here."
If he didn’t agree to move the ship, the icebreaker wouldn’t budge an inch.
In truth, the others felt the same way as Tom.
Sure enough, not a single person moved.
Jack saw the look on Jiang Si’s face and shrugged. "I’m truly sorry, Miss Jiang. They don’t listen to me."
Jiang Si sneered. "So you want to go back on our deal? Fine. Hand over all the supplies you just used and have them carried back right now."
"We’ll even let the energy we wasted treating you slide."
To save them, time had been tight. They didn’t have much food, medicine, or fuel to begin with, and they had just used up most of it. How could they conjure it out of thin air to give back to Jiang Si and her companion?
Tom’s brow furrowed. "Don’t push it. The supplies from the cruise ship weren’t yours anyway!"
Jiang Si looked at him coldly. "Who said those supplies were from a cruise ship? Do you have any proof? All of it was brought over from our yacht. We made a deal, and a deal means you keep your promise. Either that, or pay with your lives!"
’Jiang Si had been around the block in this apocalypse; there wasn’t a type of person she hadn’t met. If they wanted to play rough, she could play rougher.’
It was just Jiang Si and Qin Shen, two people on their ship, and yet she had the audacity to say such a thing.
Tom cracked his knuckles, rolled his neck, and shot Qin Shen a ferocious look. "Yellow Monkey, let’s see you try and take a life."
Tom was nearly two meters tall and built like a gorilla. He figured he could beat Qin Shen to a pulp with a single punch, so he paid Jiang Si no mind at all.
Jack still had a bit of a conscience. He said to Tom, "Tom, you can’t be so rude. They helped us." ’And they have a gun,’ he thought.
That was why, as he spoke, he subconsciously pulled his wife behind him, afraid Jiang Si would suddenly draw her gun.
The moment Tom uttered those two words, "Yellow Monkey," Jiang Si was enraged.
’But a one-on-one fight would take too much time and energy.’
Jiang Si looked at Jack calmly. "I’m giving you one last chance. Get them to move the icebreaker."
’Jack is trying to pass the buck, using the others as human shields. Does he think I can’t see through him?’
Jack said awkwardly, "I’m really not the one in charge of the ship."
His mentor, Shire, stepped forward. "We’re very grateful that you saved us. Would you allow us to repay you in a different way?"
Jiang Si looked at him. "We only want the ship."
Shire’s expression faltered. He tried his best to persuade her, "We could all leave this place together on the ship. Wouldn’t it be better to be friends?"
’Ninety people on this ship. Being friends with ninety people means taking on ninety different risks.’
’That’s a burden I can’t afford. This ship is a must-have.’
’They’d reaped the benefits but didn’t want to pay up. Life doesn’t work that way.’
Jiang Si pulled a gun from her coat. "Friends? I’m not interested."
Seeing Jiang Si pull out a gun, everyone on the ship froze.
Tom panicked for a moment, then threatened, "There are a lot of us. Don’t think you can take us all down just because you have a gun."
Jiang Si glanced at the crowd, which was backing away, and sneered, "Then do any of you dare to step forward?"
Tom looked around. Everyone was falling back, leaving him completely exposed to Jiang Si’s gun.
Everyone cherished their life. Once the shooting started, who could guarantee they wouldn’t be the one hit?
Tom gritted his teeth. "You’ve gone too far!"
Jiang Si looked at them, her gaze icy. "I’ve already said it. Either return the supplies or hand over the ship. You accepted a favor, so you have to pay the price. You say we’ve gone too far? Is your life really that worthless, then?"
"Letting you leave with us is already my greatest act of mercy. My patience is wearing thin. If this ship doesn’t start moving, I’ll start by shooting you."
Her demeanor and the look in her eyes made it clear she wasn’t joking.
Jack understood just how dangerous a woman who could survive the apocalypse and command absolute obedience from her companion could be.
He quickly urged, "Tom, just have someone start the ship! Miss Jiang is right, she saved everyone’s lives! Let’s just give her the ship. We can all leave with them anyway."
As much as Tom couldn’t stomach it, the situation forced his hand. He had no choice but to wave and order a crewman to start the ship.
He would have started the ship himself, but Jiang Si didn’t give him the chance.
Soon, the ship began to shudder.
Jiang Si didn’t let her guard down in the slightest. But from behind them, a bearded man with a gun, Jessie, suddenly appeared. "Both of you, drop your guns!"
The Northern Country was a nation where guns were legal, so it wasn’t surprising that someone had a privately owned one. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Jiang Si had already anticipated this, because Qin Shen’s hearing was a thousand times sharper than a normal person’s.
Just as everyone on the ship was secretly delighting in the thought that these two Yellow Monkeys had been captured and could no longer act so arrogantly...
BANG—
A gunshot shattered the night.
Qin Shen spun around. In the blink of an eye, he shot through Jessie’s wrist.
He screamed in pain as the gun in his hand clattered to the ground.
Tom lunged for the gun. BANG— Another gunshot rang out, and Jiang Si put a precise shot through his palm.
Two shots, back-to-back. The pair’s incredible agility completely stunned everyone present.
The gun lay right in front of them, yet they could only watch helplessly as Jiang Si unhurriedly picked it up. She smiled like a demon and asked, "Anyone else want to shoot?"
Tom thought Jiang Si was going to kill him. He opened his mouth, ready to curse his lungs out, but Shire clamped a hand over it. "They know they were wrong! Please, forgive them!"
