Chapter 197: Chapter 197: Iron Armor

Jiang Si heard Jiao Chunzi’s cry and rushed over with Qin Shen. Jiao Chunzi’s hoarse voice pleaded, "Something’s wrong with Bao’er! Something’s wrong! I can’t tell what it is! Please, I’m begging you, help me check on her!"

Jiang Si took the baby and felt her skin. She was burning up, clearly having had a fever for some time.

Jiang Si’s expression grew serious. "She has a fever. How many months old is she?"

’If she’s too young, you can’t just give her any medicine.’

Jiao Chunzi quickly replied, "Two months and eight days!"

Jiang Si frowned. "Let’s start by cooling her down physically."

Qin Shen, however, shook his head. "Her lungs are already inflamed. Give the child to me."

Hearing this, Jiao Chunzi grew frantic and fell to her knees, begging, "Please, you have to save her! Please, I’m begging you!"

Jiang Si handed the baby to Qin Shen and helped Jiao Chunzi up from the ground.

Qin Shen’s fingertips lightly touched Bao’er’s forehead, and a bright halo of light instantly radiated outwards. Jiao Chunzi stood frozen a short distance away, her mouth agape, too shocked to speak and afraid to disturb him.

A moment later, the halo of light faded. Jiang Si’s gaze fell on the baby’s face in Qin Shen’s arms. Reaching out to touch her, she found that the fever was gone.

Jiang Si said to Jiao Chunzi, "Her temperature has stabilized. She’ll be all right."

Jiao Chunzi took her baby back. Bao’er’s complexion had clearly improved; she was even smacking her little lips, asking for milk. Jiao Chunzi went inside to feed her formula, then came back out and asked in astonishment, "Are you immortals?"

Other than that one word, she couldn’t find any way to comprehend what Qin Shen had just done.

Jiang Si smiled. "No. Like you, we’re special superpower users."

"Don’t be afraid. As long as you can keep your emotions stable, you can stay with us."

This was the first time Jiao Chunzi had heard the term "superpower user," and she was a little confused. "But I’m not like you."

’Other than seeming like a corpse, there’s nothing special about me.’

Jiang Si said, "You definitely have a special quality that just hasn’t been discovered yet. Perhaps you’re immortal now?"

Jiao Chunzi showed no vital signs of a living person, like a heartbeat, but was still alive and well.

Jiao Chunzi was shocked. "I can never die?"

Jiang Si said, "It’s just a guess. You’ll need to figure out your own abilities. If you ever feel like you’re about to lose control, you can come to us for help. I might be able to help you regain your senses."

Jiao Chunzi immediately asked, "Is that your superpower?"

Jiang Si nodded. "Yes. I can soothe superpower users, provided they have a Superpower Stone inside them."

Jiao Chunzi instantly looked down at her chest, but she couldn’t feel anything. Suddenly, Jiang Si grabbed her wrist and used the Superpower Stone in her own body to sense for one. Abruptly, a yellow fluorescent light began to glow from Jiao Chunzi’s lower abdomen. She looked down, utterly stunned, unable to believe that she really had such a thing inside her.

This was the first time Jiang Si had ever awakened someone else’s Superpower Stone. The wondrous sight pleasantly surprised even her. "See? That’s your Superpower Stone."

’So I really am a superpower user.’

’And I was lucky enough to meet others like me.’

Jiao Chunzi said gratefully, "Thank you. I don’t know how I can ever repay you."

Jiang Si shook her head. "There’s no need to repay us. We just want to know how you were bitten."

Jiao Chunzi was immediately plunged into a horrifying memory. "My husband came home injured. I sensed something was off about him, so I immediately locked our child in another room. Later... later, he bit me. And then... I... I took a knife and cut him down..."

At this point, Jiao Chunzi couldn’t help but choke up.

"I was afraid I would lose my mind just like he did, so... so I quickly opened the door, grabbed my baby, and tried to find someone who could adopt her."

"But... but there was blood everywhere. Everyone was gone. There were only... terrifying figures."

"I just ran. They moved slowly, so... so they didn’t catch up to us."

Jiang Si thought for a moment, then guessed, "Is it possible that you were the one who made them not chase you?"

Jiao Chunzi’s head snapped up. "You’re saying... I can make them obey me? So... so they didn’t dare to chase me because I subconsciously commanded them not to?"

Jiang Si nodded. "Perhaps that’s your superpower."

Jiao Chunzi fell into deep thought. Thinking back to her panicked escape, it seemed like a real possibility, but she wasn’t entirely sure.

Jiao Chunzi said, "Well... if I can help everyone, then that would be great."

She had a very gentle personality. If she hadn’t had a complete breakdown out of desperation for her daughter, she never would have found the cave or captured Lao Er and Brother Qiu to force them to give her a bowl of rice water.

Jiang Si nodded. "If the zombies really do come, we will definitely need your help."

"Mhm, I’ll do everything I can."

Jiang Si then asked, "You don’t need to eat, do you?"

Jiao Chunzi shook her head. "I don’t feel hungry or sleepy. I can scout for danger for you."

Jiang Si nodded. "Not for now. Your baby is still too little, just focus on taking care of her. We’ve cleared out a room in the cave; you two can move in there."

Jiao Chunzi quickly shook her head. "No, no, it’s not necessary. This place is already great. If there’s anything I can do, just let me know."

Jiang Si smiled. "Not at the moment." She gave her a pager. "If anything comes up, use this to call us."

"We’re often out and about during the day. We keep animals in the ship’s hold, and some of them are quite fierce, so don’t be alarmed."

"Okay, thank you for the warning."

After finishing their conversation with Jiao Chunzi, Qin Shen and Jiang Si returned to the cave.

Everyone was waiting anxiously. They crowded around and asked, "What’s going on with her?"

Jiang Si said, "Zombies are real. She was infected and became a superpower user—a conscious zombie. It seems she can also control other zombies, which is why I took her in."

Shen Baoying immediately asked, "She... she has a baby. Is the baby a little zombie too?"

Jiang Si shook her head. "The baby isn’t!"

Shen Baoying let out a sigh of relief. ’It would be too horrible if even babies were turning into zombies.’

Jiang Linhai, worried that zombies would find their way to them, quickly asked, "So, should we build some walls to keep the zombies out?"

Jiang Si thought for a moment. "We could definitely build one. At least it would slow them down for a bit."

Niu Niu asked curiously, "Big Sister, won’t that auntie bite people?"

Jiang Si shook her head. "She’s conscious. For her child’s sake, she’ll do everything in her power to control herself. It’ll be fine."

Even though she said that, everyone was still a little scared.

Jiang Linhai added, "What about making some suits of Iron Armor? If we all wore them, we wouldn’t have to worry about being bitten by zombies."

Jiang Si burst out laughing. "Iron Armor? Dad, you really have some ideas. It would be so heavy, only Qin Shen could even move in it. If you just stood there, the zombies would tear it right off you."
