Chapter 232: I’m Going To Kill You!
Lingyun’s head whipped around to where the front yard had now been completely exposed like curtains parting from a stage.
In front of us, Tao Jun hung, the vines that had taken him from the house were now wrapped tightly around his ankles and held him suspended in the air.
He was twisting, and kicking, trying to get himself free, but every time he moved, more vines would wrap around him. It was clear that he wasn’t enjoying himself. His face was covered in dirt and blood and his shirt had been torn nearly in half. Every few seconds, he actually managed to grab one of the vines holding him, and pull hard enough to make it shake. But they never actually broke.
And directly beneath him sat a cute little flower.
I blinked, then I blinked again.
The flower was tiny, maybe about half the size of my fist, but it was a tenacious little thing. Sure, it was much, much smaller than the flowers that used to grow there, but that didn’t detract it from trying to eat the giant screaming idiot in one bite.
I might have been sarcastic when I called it a baby before with Yuche. But now looking at it, it really was just that...
A baby.
Its petals were bright green, almost painfully vibrant against the black ash surrounding it. The little thing had a mouth hidden in the center of those petals, and it was currently doing its absolute best to eat a grown man.
The problem was that the flower’s mouth was way too small to get more than a single finger in a bite.
But I had to give it points for trying.
It bit Tao Jun’s arm, then his shoulder, then a piece of his shirt. I could practically see it getting more and more frustrated, but it kept trying anyway.
The next time the flower tried to take a bite, Tao Jun punched it in its mouth.
My eye twitched in rage as I watched the flower bounce backward. One of its petals bent sideways, and it let out the smallest squeak of rage and displeasure that I had ever head.
Then it immediately leaned forward and bit him again. This time, when Tao Jun punched it a second time, I felt personally offended.
"What is wrong with him?" I demanded, looking up at Yuche to see if he could answer the question. But he just stood there and shook his head.
I pointed back toward the flower, getting even more upset. "Can’t he see the poor thing is trying? Why can’t he be more understanding?!"
Commander Li made a sound that might have been a cough but I ignored him. freēwebnovel.com
The flower was clearly doing its best to kill the much bigger man. The jungle had been burned, and that flower had probably just survived the fire and all its friends and family dying. It was hungry. It had finally caught something....
And now Tao Jun was punching it.
Rude.
The baby vine around my neck apparently agreed. It hissed loudly enough that several people looked toward it before it detached itself from around my neck and launched off the porch.
The moment it was on the ground, it immediately stared racing across the yard, trying to get to the flower. What a good big brother...
Tao Jun finally noticed it, but unfortunately for him, noticing my vine wasn’t nearly the same thing as stopping it. The baby vine reached him in seconds, and hissed again. It then climbed the larger vines holding the man in place, wrapped around his neck, and sank its teeth into him before he could react.
The effect was instant.
Tao Jun jerked once...Then twice...Then stopped moving entirely.
The entire yard fell silent and even Meilan stopped trying to be the center of attention, her screams getting cut off with a gurgle.
The baby vine released its bite and looked back toward me like it wanted praise for doing good.
Who was I do deny it?
I smiled and nodded my head. "Good job." The little menace looked unbearably pleased with itself as it got off the now dead body and slithered back to me.
And, Tao Jun finally not moving, the flower’s job became significantly easier.
The tiny bloom immediately took another bite. Then another. Then another. The pieces were still ridiculously small compared to the body hanging above it, but that didn’t seem to discourage it in the slightest. It simply continued eating with the stubborn determination only a plant could possess.
The more it ate, the more it changed.
It wasn’t dramatic. It didn’t grow into a five story building, but it was enough. The stem grew thicker, the petals became larger, and the green colored deepened and started changing into something a bit more red... with white poka dots.
A nearby vine emerged from the ash and cautiously reached toward Tao Jun’s body, but the flower immediately hissed, its gleaming white teeth on display for anyone watching.
The larger vine froze before it slowly withdrew. The message was perfectly clear. That kill belonged to the not so little flower. If the vine wanted something to eat, it needed to get its own food.
I laughed and snuggled deeper into Yuche’s embrace.
Around the yard, more movement appeared beneath the destruction. Fresh vines pushed through the ash, new leaves emerged from blackened soil, and brilliant green colors of every shade spread through the devastation one stubborn inch at a time.
The jungle wasn’t mourning.
The jungle was healing.
And as the tiny flower continued eating its prize, more vines began moving beneath the ashes.
I was at peace and happy... so, of course Meilan had to go and ruin it for me.
"I’m going to kill you!" she screamed as she practically launched herself toward me. I could only roll my eyes at the fact that this bitch was just so... basic.
Seriously, didn’t she have a new idea in her head? She spent so much time trying to kill me that all she was doing was trying to kill me from boredom.
But before she could get too close to me, something wrapped around her waist and pulled her back.
