Chapter 96: Bonding (3)

"If there’s a chance your uncle had nothing to do with your parent’s death, will you try to make your relationship better?" Aurora rubbed her hands to get rid of the coldness taking over her body. Vincent’s chest was exposed but the cold was not bothering him.

"Long before I became the alpha, my uncle and I never had a good relationship. I always sense his intentions weren’t good and even if he wasn’t the one to inflict the final blow on my parents, I won’t ever care to get close to the man. I wouldn’t care if Victor wanted to be a family with him again since my uncle has always liked him more." Vincent recalled the times Graham would visit his childhood home but only speak to Victor when he came.

"I know from experience to listen to what your body tells you about someone. That’s how I got the feeling Seth was dangerous. Are there any other family members aside from your brother that you have a good relationship with?" she asked.

"There are. The ones from my mother’s side are more peaceful. On my father’s side, the Lawerences have many members plotting to become the alpha. But yet, if vampires were to attack us they would hide away from the fight. They only look at being the alpha as the person in charge but have no idea what amount of work goes into making sure everyone is safe. If they cared about protecting everyone here, I would step away as alpha." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

"I don’t think you should give it up. It’s a lot of responsibility and not many people would go to fight for the safety of others. Don’t hand it over to anyone if you know they shouldn’t become the leader. Look at king Darius and how he rules the kingdom. Everyone is scared of doing something they could be hanged for but everyone here seems so carefree. I wish I remembered this place earlier instead of trying to fit in when I was with the Hamiltons. Know anyone who can reverse time?" Aurora joked at the end.

"The timekeeper isn’t going to reverse time without a valid reason. He doesn’t like messing with the world and disrupting the future. He’s the grumpiest man I have ever come across. What?" Vincent chuckled seeing Aurora’s wide eye expression at the mention of a timekeeper.

"I just..." Aurora trailed off unsure of how to process this. "I would rather stop talking to avoid learning about ghosts and timekeepers. Next thing I know, you’ll be telling me about creatures flying around."

"Fairies don’t like to be seen unless they like you." Vincent couldn’t refrain from laughing the more shocked Aurora became. "Don’t read the books in my study while drinking water or you might choke from the revelation of the type of creatures in this world. Are you cold?" He asked after noticing how much she was rubbing her hands to keep warm. "My body is warm or we can go inside?"

Aurora contemplated her next move while Vincent opened his arms as an invitation to keep her warm. Having a little bit of confidence in herself, she scooted closer to where Vincent sat feeling the warmth of his body as she laid her head against his chest. ’He’s never going to let me forget this,’ she started to die of embarrassment on the inside.

The next day, Regina lay awake staring at the roof of her room. The image of the familiar woman in the hall last night was still haunting her since she couldn’t place where she knew the woman from. Not to mention the fact the woman disappeared when Duncan appeared.

She had asked the butler if they had a guest over but he said no. Minnie wasn’t allowing any friends nor other family members to visit the home. The woman couldn’t have been a maid because of how fancy her dress was. If the woman was an intruder, how did she make it past the doubled amount of guards Minnie had stationed around the house?

"Did I drink anything before leaving the table?" Regina tried to remember everything she reached for last night. She had barely eaten any of the food and only had half a glass of wine that her mother allowed. She wasn’t drunk nor sleepy when she saw the woman in the hall. "Maybe it was a ghost," she humored herself but didn’t find it to be a joke for long when the image of the woman standing there was fresh in her mind.

"Am I finally going crazy?" She came to the conclusion the house had finally gotten the best of her. "Now I’m seeing women walking around this house. One more thing to make Minnie dislike me. At least none of the men she has for me to marry will want me when they learn I’m going crazy. Gilbert is still debatable."

Regina groaned, forcing herself to sit up after thinking about the woman all night long. "Maybe I just imagined this because I’m stressed. I mean, why on earth would there be a woman there in the middle of the night? It had to be a worker wearing their grandmother’s dress for reason.." she trailed off realizing the timeline for the dress the woman wore.

It was fancy but nothing close to what the girls wore now. It looked similar to something in style many years ago. Regina had to thank keeping up with the latest and past styles for knowing this. "I have to go back there or this will truly send me crazy," she quickly got out of bed running out of her bedroom back to the same hall from last night. free𝑤ebnovel.com

The workers she passed were confused by her running around in her night garments but she didn’t mind the stares. As she was about to pass the area with a lot of their family portraits, Regina almost slipped when one of the portraits she saw shocked her. "Is someone playing tricks on me?" She commented looking directly at the portrait of her great grandmother. It was Minnie’s mother, Esmeralda Hamilton, the woman she saw last night.
