Chapter 271: Blood does not matter (3)
"Mother," Samuel knocked on the door of his parent’s bedroom. He was hoping to find his mother while his father was distracted. Samuel believed there was something being left out from what his father told him. "Mother," he knocked again then waited for a response. "What room could she have been in?" ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
Samuel feared something bad could have happened to her. Regardless of how much pressure she placed on him, she was still his mother. Samuel loved his mother more than he loved his father. He did not care about what happened to Minnie but he had a feeling, his mother might be in the same place as his grandmother.
"We’ve all turned our backs on one another. He might have killed her," Samuel began to panic. He didn’t have time to search all the rooms and he could not ask a servant about his mother’s whereabouts in case they alerted his father. "I can’t get on his bad side. I don’t know what he’ll do to me."
No one in this family could be trusted. Everyone was looking out for their own personal gain. Everyone but Regina. She had nothing to gain by taking Aurora’s side yet, everyone was determined to hand her everything.
"Minnie is gone and now my father is the only thing blocking my path from owning everything. He’s not a monster like Minnie. I am not afraid of him," said Samuel. If he put his mind to it, it wouldn’t be hard to get rid of his father. If their father seriously considered handing everything to Regina, he was as good as dead to Samuel.
"I’ve struggled and worked too hard for it to all be given away to Regina. She only wants it as revenge for Aurora. I still need her," Samuel thought about his mother. She was controlling but she knew what was needed to have everything Minnie once owned under his name. "Where on earth would he keep her to teach her a lesson? To keep her quiet so she wouldn’t act in the future?"
"Perhaps a cell?" Nathaniel’s voice was heard behind Samuel. "I’m a bit disappointed with you, Samuel. Do you honestly think I would hear the love of my life? She didn’t take too well to being placed in our room so I sent her somewhere else with a nice view. She’ll be back to join us for dinner. I’m hoping to have Regina back by then."
"I heard everything you said about not being afraid of me. I’m glad you aren’t. I never wanted to be a monster in my children’s eyes. I was so happy when Regina would cling to me or run to me when she had a problem. It’s a shame you were never like that. You were more like me, waiting for everything to be in my name."
"I wouldn’t think of doing anything stupid to you, father. I only wish for Regina to come home and see my mother. You said she was in her bedroom but there is no response. No one was outside of the door to keep an eye on her," Samuel found this to be odd.
"Why would I place someone to watch your mother as if she is a prisoner? I forgot she wanted to go somewhere with a nice view. She’ll be back at dinner like I said. Come, Samuel, we have to go look for your sister before I lose my temper."
"I’ve already searched any place she could be. It’s as if she has disappeared to wherever Aurora went. I wouldn’t doubt Regina knowing how to get to where Aurora is. We might never see her again-" Samuel’s words were cut short after Nathaniel walked up and slapped him.
"My daughter is coming home. If you were diligent in searching for her, she would be back by now. After hearing what you just said I cannot trust you to want your sister to return home, Samuel. Regina cannot be blamed for someone viewing you as incompetent. Whatever she puts her mind to she has always achieved. You, on the other, had to depend on your mother. There are enough businesses for you to put some in your name but you cannot run the entire Hamilton empire."
Nathaniel sighed, angry with himself for slapping Samuel when he never wished to lay a hand on his children. He was unable to hold himself back now because he knew how much Samuel wanted his own sister to disappear. "Please find the old Samuel who would talk about protecting his little sister. It is partially my fault for not being closer to you but I hope you do not lose yourself thinking about money and power."
Nathaniel witnessed many times what wanting power and money did to members of their family. He did not wish for Samuel to go down that path.
"I understand, father. I will go out and search for Regina again and be back in time for dinner. Excuse me," Samuel walked away. All his mother ever filled his head about was owning everything the Hamiltons had their name on. It was hard to accept anything else but he had no choice.
His mind lingered on what his father said about finding the old Samuel who talked about protecting Regina. These days he found himself betraying, jealous, and angry with Regina. Nothing like what they used to be before Aurora ran away. They argued but they had each other’s backs.
He felt sorry for Minnie wanting to throw Regina in a cell and truly wanted to help her hide from their family but as soon as their father mentioned Regina being the better heir, he went back to hating her.
"What’s wrong with me? Why am I thinking this way? Regina, Aurora, and I have always stuck together," Samuel said as he went back downstairs. "I should be with Regina right now. I should have never turned my back on Aurora. It didn’t matter if she wasn’t blood-related, she was still my sister. Dammit," Samuel cursed.
His father was right. He had to go back to his old self before it was too late.
