Chapter 143: House of secrets (2)
"How on earth did our family steal this last name and this property but no one around batted an eye? How did no one realize that the people who once lived here had changed?" Regina didn’t see how it would be easy for anyone to steal someone’s life and no one around mentioned the change. Weren’t they curious about what happened to the real Hamiltons they knew?
"It was a well thought out plan of killing any close relatives to the Hamiltons up until they finally killed the ones who used to live here. We claimed to be distant relatives who would be taking over the fallen house and we had some connections to forge some documents to make everything look real. The papers said the killers had never been found but they were here all along. I was told this by my father when I became a certain age."
"When was anyone going to mention it to us? This is ridiculous honestly. Minnie had to have known right? And my father maybe?" Regina asked.
"My daughter knew from my father since I had passed away. I am not certain if she told your father but she most likely did. She would have to tell you at some point since she needs you and your brother."
"Why? This whole time I was thinking it was just Aurora they needed use. What could she possibly want from me? This family just keeps getting weirder by the day," Regina sat back in her chair completely full of disbelief.
Esmeralda’s eyes darted behind Regina for a brief moment then she smiled. "I’m afraid I can’t spoil too much of what’s going to happen. You need to make your own judgments when the time comes. If I say anything more I might influence your decisions and I really want to see the path you take on your own. I’m hoping you’ll be the one to do some good so that I can get rid of my guilt and leave this world."
"Tell me and I can still make my own judgment of what I might come across. I really hate when people bring up something important and then don’t give you the full rundown. It defeats the purpose of even bringing up anything to the person," Regina found the story about their family name to be interesting but what she really wanted to know now was why Minnie might need to use her or Samuel.
"Regina, who on earth are you speaking to?" Samuel asked appearing from behind Regina’s chair and sat down in the one Esmeralda was seated in because he couldn’t see her. "A maid told me that you were out here talking to yourself. Is it to get attention?"
"I’m pretty sure I told that maid to mind her business but clearly she didn’t. Please tell me who on earth’s attention would I be trying to get? Our crazy grandmother, socially standing obsessed mother, silent father, or my cowardly brother? Don’t you all seem like people I would want to avoid rather than gain your attention? Have you forgotten that you and I are not on speaking terms? Please remove yourself from this table and find another one. The garden has plenty of them," Regina watched Esmeralda get up and walked away now that Samuel had joined them.
"How much longer do you plan to be upset with me? Don’t you think I feel guilty enough for what happened with Aurora and what I considered with Gilbert? I feel terrible for what I did and you’re making it harder on me right now. You have no idea what I’m going through with the family business."
Regina threw Samuel a bored look. "Sam," she used his nickname from when they were younger, giving him a little hope that she was ready to make amends. "I don’t care."
Samuel chuckled, feeling foolish for thinking that she was going to get over it so easily. He knew how petty and vengeful his little sister was. "Be nice to me now Regina. You are my little sister but the way you talk to me is starting to bother me. I have big plans for this household and one day you’ll need me but I’ll return the same attitude you are giving me now."
"Promise?" Regina held up her pinky to make the deal. She hoped Samuel stayed true to what he was saying and doing now. She also had big plans for this household and to get her forgiveness he would need to bow to her daily.
"You are acting as if I set you up to be killed. I didn’t even go through with the plan to put you with Gilbert. And it was Minnie’s idea in the first place, I just wanted to use it to our advantage."
"Our advantage?" Regina scoffed. He was acting like they were in on some plan together. He was only looking out for things that could benefit him and solidify himself as his father’s heir. "You were thinking of yourself when you agreed with Minnie and when you brought up the idea to Gilbert. He’s not the only man in this town who can lend you support against Minnie. All you have to do is marry one of their daughters but you would rather use me. That’s your advantage."
"We all have to play our part for our future Regina. I thought of you every time I had to plan something out. I have always thought about your safety. I wasn’t even going to let Gilbert live for long after the two of you would have gotten married. He would have died and you would take over his estate. You would live alone like you always wanted to," he tried to reason with her. There was still time for her to accept the proposal to Gilbert.
Regina still didn’t fall for what Samuel was telling her. It insulted her how stupid he thought she was. "Do you honestly think I cannot imagine what would really happen if I married Gilbert? He’s not a man to leave in his will that everything he owns would go to his new wife. He’ll rather have everything he owns burnt. The only person a man like him would leave everything to is his son and Gilbert does not have one. You wouldn’t be able to kill him until I have slept with him and become pregnant. If the first child is a girl I would have to do it again and again until it is a boy. Once again, Samuel, I am not in for this stupid plan you have. Go look for a good wife."
Out of frustration, Samuel banged his fist against the garden table because his sister didn’t understand sacrifices needed to be made. He sacrificed things already and now it was her turn to do the same. "You have no idea what is happening in this house. It’s either you are with me or with Minnie and you know what she thinks about you after everything has happened with Aurora. And she thinks you have something to do with the affair rumor going around. Decide quickly if you are going to be on my side."
"You or Minnie? Hmm, I’ll have to decline both. The both of you are up to no good and I don’t plan to be used by any of you. I choose to be on my side. Can you do me a favor and leave right now? I was having a good conversation with myself," she wanted their great-grandmother to come back so they could finish off where they stopped. She told Samuel too many times she wasn’t going to forgive or work with him. He should leave her alone at this point.
Samuel clapped his hands wishing Regina well being on her own. She had no kind of control in the house unlike everyone else. She didn’t realize how quickly she needed to grab hold of anyone willing to help her. It was clear that day that the best person for her to be on a team with was her brother. "Listen, I’ll throw you being with Gilbert out the window, and for the last time, I apologize for not telling you about it and trying to use you."
Regina patiently waited for what would come next. "Continue."
Samuel leaned forward on the table, interlocking his fingers as he got ready to plot. "Let’s think of another way for us to get Minnie away from having such a hold on our lives. If she loses all of her connections then I would be head of the house since father doesn’t care to be and we can have Aurora back here like the old days. No one would be able to hurt her with the control I would have."
"And how do you plan to do that because I know you want to use me again to do this." frёewebnoѵēl.com
"There is plenty of daughters for me to get married to and plenty of sons for you to get married to. If we join together with spouses from powerful families like our own, we’ll be successful. Would you like to join me now? You can pick your own husband." ƒгeewebnovёl.com
After a short pause, Regina answered, "Deal."
She didn’t agree to this because she truly planned to work with Samuel or because she had forgiven him. She was doing this because he’ll make finding her a powerful husband much easier and then she would drop her brother.
