Chapter 133: Trial (5)

Aurora opened her door and stepped out ready to do anything to help save the little ones. She knew her words won’t matter to the people here but what else could she do when Artemis didn’t care? Whether she won or lost today, the important thing was that she tried her best. That won’t mean much to the little girls but it was all she could do.

"I feel guilty for recommending this trial. I don’t know what I was thinking when I knew what could happen today. I really hope a miracle happens," Jane said as she held Aurora’s hand to help her get out of the carriage. "My guilt will eat me alive if I don’t. I’m stuck between scolding myself and hitting Derek over the head for allowing them to follow him. When he gets released, I’m going to strangle him."

Aurora would’ve laughed had Jane been the type to tell jokes. Derek just might die today after all. "Question, will the staring stop soon?" Aurora had been ignoring the stares coming from those who were already seated and approaching the area for the trial. The looks she was receiving and the thought of them talking amongst each other about her made her even more nervous than she needed to be. It wasn’t like they were being secretive with their actions.

Jane didn’t look around to know that they were the main focus of everyone’s conversation right now. Everyone wanted to get a glimpse of the woman who had been staying in Vincent’s home. "I would say forget about them but that would be foolish advice. I will be by your side and so will Mari. Imagine everyone in their underwear," she said as a last resort to help Aurora gain confidence. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

"What?" Aurora chuckled since she never heard such a thing. She wanted to keep her eyesight pure and not imagine what some of them looked like.

"I do that all the time when I have to speak in front of too many people. And I imagine that their underwear is dirty so I am more disgusted than nervous," Said Mari.

Aurora wasn’t sure what to say after a confession like that. Jane blinked twice in disbelief then said, "We don’t have to take it that far Mari." frёewebηovel.cѳm

Mari shrugged, not finding it too bad. She spoke with such confidence when she used this method. "You were throwing out a solution and I gave what makes it work for me. They are waving for us to come to get our seats. It’s going to start now."

"Thank you. Not both of you exactly," Aurora said only because of Mari’s method. That was something she was not going to do now or in the future. "If we just stay here their attention will be on us and not on the trial," she joked.

With her head held high, Aurora walked in beside Jane and Mari. Though she was nervous she didn’t let it show in front of everyone so they couldn’t try and intimidate her. If they could smell her fear then she was screwed.

"Haven’t you ever been to gatherings like this before Aurora? Do humans not sit and bring judgment?" Mari asked, curious about how the human world worked. She had never stepped foot out the community gates and she didn’t plan to. The tales of the outside world were too scary.

"I never left to attend any of the events in the town. The king makes the judgment of someone’s fate after they have done something bad but he doesn’t allow regular folk to be there when he does this." If there was an opportunity for Aurora to attend something like this, she wouldn’t have gone. She didn’t see how they would be entertained by watching someone potentially lose their life.

"Who is this?"

"She’s not even a wolf?"

"An outsider cannot be with our alpha."

Aurora ignored their words as she walked up to the front and sat on the side where Derek and the little ones were seated. The little girls didn’t look scared because they had no idea what was going on.

"Stop whispering amongst yourself. It’s time to get this trial started with," a man beside Vincent announced to everyone present. He was one of the elders but like everyone else, he didn’t look old.

"We’re here to discuss a fellow werewolf Derek allowing two humans to follow him back to our community without disposing of them. Outsiders are not allowed in our community. First starting with Derek, since we don’t agree with just killing our own, we all agree that Derek should take part in putting up the community’s new gates," a woman spoke up this time.

There were three people seated with Vincent. Two men and one woman.

"Building the wall?" Derek stated finding it to be such a hard task for someone like him who doesn’t enjoy going manual labor. He’d rather have to clean up leaves or something from one area and then call it a day. The wall was going to take at least one month.

"Why is his punishment so easy?"

"Shouldn’t it be something more?"

"Shut up or you will be made to leave," Vincent told the crowd when they started talking amongst themselves again. He had nothing to do with Derek getting such a light punishment which was what some people in the crowd were muttering about since Derek worked for one. They should talk to the elders if they find it to be unfair. "That is the final decision."

Someone approached Derek to release him from where he was now that he had gotten his punishment. He was expecting something more than this and found the elder’s decision to be suspicious. Among the crowd, Derek found the person watching him the most like a hawk was Jane’s mother. There was no doubt in his mind the woman was upset he was at the trial and she’ll seek them out after this to complain.

Derek went next to Jane, Aurora, and Mari to hear what will now happen to the girls. He kept his eyes on them after he sat down and saw that they had wanted to follow him because he was the one person they knew best here.

Aurora played with her fingers as the hard part was coming up. They made the decision for Derek so quickly that she feared they might do the same for the little girls. It seemed they already made up their minds about what will happen to everyone at trial and were just making it come through. She looked at Vincent and found him already looking at her. He must already know what she was thinking.

"Moving on to the reason everyone is here today. We have two little humans on our hands. A decision has to be made about their fate here in our community. We have-"

"Kill them!" Someone from the crowd yelled, interrupting the elder man that was speaking. Many of his peers agreed and started chatting amongst themselves once again.

"Kill them and hang up their heads on the gates for our enemies to see."

"Burn them just like their people have done to some of us!"

Aurora was disgusted by some of the things being suggested by the people in the crowd. The oldest of the two girls became shaken up as she understood what was going to happen to her and her younger sister.

"What part of keeping quiet did none of you understand," Vincent growled, slamming his fists down on the table in front of him, almost breaking it. The three elders began to scold him for almost breaking something so important. Things would go smoothly if the crowd would just shut up and allow them to come to a conclusion. He already knew what they wanted to do with the children, they didn’t need to get up and shout it.

"Patience, nephew. I see you still have that temper you had as a child," Graham Lawerence, Vincent’s uncle, spoke up now that Vincent had snapped. "You should do as my nephew says and keep quiet so that we can come to a conclusion today. Though, I do need to voice my opinion that I think we should use these little girls to start an annual hunt."

"An annual hunt means going out to kidnap humans each year or have these girls grow to create more humans and I am not going to allow either of them. If all of you want a hunt, get an animal and chase after it. Case closed," Vincent shut down his uncle right away. The man wanted the people to know he was on their side but Vincent didn’t care about doing things to have people on his side. He had a list of rules and he planned on sticking to them.

"Case closed? How about we open the case about the woman you have in your home but is not a werewolf. One of the elders stated earlier that we do not accept outsiders in our community. Does that rule not stand for our leader?" Graham grinned thinking he was about to piss off Vincent but he was surprised when his nephew started to laugh. "What are you laughing at?"

"You, dear uncle. You’re predictable as always."
