Chapter 131: Trial (3)
"Good evening. I hope you slept well in your own bedroom?" Aurora asked avoiding eye contact with Vincent. She wasn’t upset that he had pretended to sleep while he was awake anymore but it wouldn’t hurt to punish him a little bit.
"I was expecting the silent treatment but yes, I slept well. What were you up to while I was away?" He sat down at the head of the table right next to Aurora. He got an overwhelming whiff of roses coming from Aurora most likely thanks to Mari. "I hope you haven’t given up practicing. You might surprise yourself the more you try and if you have nightmares," he extended his arms inviting her in. "I and my room will be open to you."
"You must take a lot of joy in being a flirt. How many women do you have fangirling over your words? You’ll have to try harder than that. From now on, if I ever have nightmares I’ll call for Mari."
Vincent leaned closer to her side revealing his growing canines. "Who can protect you better than the big bad wolf?"
"I’m starting to think I did need protection from you mister wolf. If you don’t mind, can you get out of my personal space?"
"Someone came downstairs with a new attitude. For someone who doesn’t think I can charm them, your resistance says otherwise. Shouldn’t I just naturally be unable to move your heart? I have to let you know that I am a lover of games like this. You’re only tempting me by doing this," he sat back in his seat. "I have some news about the trial for the little ones," Vincent brought it up but didn’t tell her anything further.
Aurora rolled her eyes at his childish behavior. "Please don’t tell me you are expecting me to beg for information when you know how important this is."
"You know you switch between a confident and shy personality like this," he snapped his fingers to show how quickly she did it. One moment she would be blushing because of his behavior and then the next she would be looking him in the eye whilst almost scolding him. The second part reminded him of the old Aurora he knew. "I don’t expect you to beg but a little can you please tell me Vincent wouldn’t hurt." ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
"That is begging." She didn’t know what other definition of the word he had in his mind. Why couldn’t he just tell her about the trial unless it was something bad and he wanted to prolong what he was going to say?
"No, that is asking nicely. Didn’t any of those expensive tutors you had, teach you anything about that? Tsk tsk, and you were supposed to be one with all the training about being proper. This proves that to be wrong. Were you not paying attention when the tutors were speaking?"
Aurora sighed, not understanding how one person could be this annoying. "Vincent, can you please tell me about the trial?"
"Now, was that so hard? Jane informed me today that the trial will be held tomorrow. A little earlier than I was expecting but since it concerns humans the elders don’t want to wait any longer. Each household must be receiving the news about the trial now and the majority of them who don’t need to work will be there. Whatever bright idea that you have, I hope it will be together by tomorrow."
Aurora wanted the trial to happen soon so the girls could not be locked up but she wasn’t anticipating it to be tomorrow. She hadn’t started to put her plan in motion. "M-My plan isn’t ready yet. What can I do?" Aurora asked herself more than Vincent. She started to bite her nails out of worry her plan might fail.
Vincent took Aurora’s hand away from her mouth to stop her from messing up her fingernails with the bite marks. "It’s a normal reaction but freaking out will just cloud your mind and make you unable to come up with good solutions. Don’t give up now. You were placed as one of the two people willing to talk on the girl’s behalf. Jane will be doing the same. Please don’t make me regret allowing you to do this."
To stand up in front of people she didn’t even know and who didn’t know her, will be a hard task. They’ll ignore her words and question her presence in the community. Aurora had to be prepared to keep herself collected tomorrow. "You can’t show any fear tomorrow because they will feed off of it and attack you even more. You have to remain confident in yourself from the time you arrive until the very end. Do you think you can do that?"
Aurora nodded her head, yes but it wasn’t too convincing. Instead of worrying as Vincent said, it was better to start putting her plan in motion. There was something important she had to do in the privacy of her own room after dinner.
She wasn’t sure how well it would go but she had high hopes of using Artemis to save the little girls. Vincent said the wolves worship the moon Goddess and since Vincent couldn’t interfere, Artemis was the next best choice. The problem was Aurora was unaware of her past relationship with the Goddess and she was confused if Artemis would even want to listen to her about helping humans even if they were just little children.
"I’m going to remain positive even though everything seems so negative. Do you think I stand a chance tomorrow? Even if I come up with something good, will they really let the little ones go or will they still try to hurt them?"
"As long as I come to the conclusion that they are not meant to be touched no one should go after them. If they do, they are disrespecting my commands and that is not something I enjoy. Once I declare them safe, you can take them home. That I promise you," Vincent replied.
He continued on to say, "Before you start thinking about what you’re going to do, make sure you eat a lot of dinner. The last thing I want is for you to pass out from not eating."
"I won’t pass out," Aurora muttered just as the maids brought out the food to serve to her and Vincent. During dinner, she tried her best to act normal but the entire time, all she wanted to do was return to her room.
In an hour’s time, the food had been eaten and Mari had left. Aurora bid goodbye to Vincent at the dinner table and hurried back to her bedroom to try and communicate that the woman would help. She closed the bedroom door so that no one would be able to look in at what she was going to do.
All alone, she walked closer to her bed and called for Artemis. "Hello? Goddess, can you hear me? I wish to speak with you Artemis," she looked around for any signs that Artemis had arrived at her room. She wasn’t certain how she got Artemis to hear her when she found herself in a tough spot at the Hamiltons and Artemis sent a little light to help her disappear to somewhere else. "Artemis, it is me Aurora."
After no sign of the woman, Aurora was starting to lose confidence. She had been trying to contact the woman since she had the idea to get Artemis to help. If the trial wasn’t tomorrow she would have a longer time to try contacting Artemis. Aurora tried to contact the woman for another ten minutes but got no reply.
She sat down on her bed feeling on the verge of tugging her hair because she was at a dead-end right now. "I wish all of this was much easier. How can I contact you Artemis?"
While Aurora started to lose faith in herself, she missed a small light appearing in her bedroom and touching her mirror.
"Have you found yourself in more trouble? I’m surprised to be hearing from you again Aurora. Where do you wish to escape from this time?" The sound of Artemis’s voice made Aurora turn around to see that Artemis had appeared in her mirror.
Artemis’s body was moving like it was in the water and in the background, Aurora could see the night sky. "It worked? How?" She didn’t understand what was special that got through to Artemis. "What made you hear me?" she asked.
"The wishes. When people make wishes I, unfortunately, have to listen to them. The ones from people I know always stick out the most. I thought you went with Vincent, why are you calling for me? Please don’t tell me you want to go back to those humans."
"No, no, no. That’s not what I wanted you for," Aurora stood up, approaching the mirror so that she could see Artemis more clearly. The excitement that she had gotten Artemis to show up started to build back up her confidence. "There’s going to be a trial here in the werewolf community regarding two little girls I want to save."
"And you think I’m going to help you? Why on earth would I get involved when it comes to humans?"
