Chapter 129: Trial (1)

"Is there something you need?" Aurora asked when she came out of her room a few minutes after Vincent left and found Mari standing outside with a smile on her face. It was obvious Mari wanted to ask about Vincent’s presence in her room.

"No no, I don’t need anything. Did you have fun today?" Mari asked beating around the bush since she couldn’t straight up ask Aurora her business between her and Vincent. They were growing close to each other these few days but there was a line between the two of them. Mari’s excitement will soon make her cross that line.

"I did. Sorry, I left you alone for so long. Where did Jane go?" Aurora had been making herself so busy that there was hardly the need for Jane to be her bodyguard. There weren’t any threats in Vincent’s home as of right now. It is best if Jane continued to do her previous job and only be Aurora’s bodyguard when she went out in public.

"She went to speak with Vincent for a moment. Do you want me to go and get her?"

"No, I just wanted to know if she had been waiting around for me or if she left. There doesn’t seem to be anything for anyone here with me to do. I’ve found myself being bored again. What do you do for fun here Mari? Well, things you can do on the inside of your home?" Aurora questioned as a local would have a better idea of how to pass time.

"I normally just play around with my siblings. They enjoy a good game of tug of war. I’m not sure if I am the best person to take advice for fun. There’ll be a lot of parties soon because it’s the time of the year some people start looking for mates. Maybe Vincent will take you out and introduce you to everyone there. I can’t wait for you to attend the grand celebration," Mari loved this time of the year when the community would have a lot of celebrations.

"A lot of prestigious families will have their own parties with their private guests but everyone is invited to the grand celebration to have fun. We dress up, eat good food, dance, sing, and do whatever else we feel like doing. I’ll need to search for a nice dress to wear for myself and then for my siblings. Should we wear what we used last year?" Mari muttered to herself, seeing that as best rather than wasting money on new clothes.

Aurora heard Mari and said, "I hope one day I can get to meet your siblings."

"Trust me, you don’t. I can handle them simply because they are my siblings but they can be so wild. They are at the stage where they can’t keep quiet and want to explore everything around them. Please protect your peace and stay away from those little children. You’ll understand when you and Vincent-Oops," Mari covered her mouth before she could say something stupid.

Since Mari stopped herself, Aurora decided to ignore what she was going to say. She found it both interesting and weird how everyone was so invested and sure that they would end up together. If there was a slight chance that they would end up together, shouldn’t they just let it happen naturally instead of bringing it up? "I’m going back inside to get some rest since there is nothing more for me to do. If I sleep too long, please wake me up an hour before dinner is ready."

"Okay," Mari replied in a soft tone. She was worried Aurora had become upset about her interest in the relationship Aurora had with Vincent. She knew at some point she would come off as annoying but it was all because she wanted Vincent to end up with someone like Aurora.

Soon enough, Vincent will have to look for a wife to provide the possible next alpha for the time Vincent wanted to retire. In the coming days, with everyone looking for a mate many of the women here will have their eyes on Vincent. Mari wanted the two to establish what they are before many misunderstandings could take place.

What if Vincent gets tired of waiting on Aurora and finds someone else to be in a relationship with? Then Aurora might leave the home since it would become awkward for her. Mari planned to silently play cupid to get the two together quickly. She was not going to allow some woman just looking at Vincent’s status to become their luna. She saw the types that were coming forward to offer themselves to Vincent.

Working as a maid, Mari conversed with many other maids who spoke ill of their bosses. They acted one way on the outside but their heart was dark as night on the inside.

"See you later," Aurora waved goodbye to Mari. Trying to push someone as big as Vincent had taken all of her strength, unfortunately. Her wrists ache from all the pushing she did and she planned to never do it again.

Inside Vincent’s office, he sat behind his desk as Jane talked about his uncle trying to gain supporters to remove Vincent as alpha. If the man really wanted Vincent to not be alpha, he should come to fight him to take the spot. However, his uncle loved sending others to do his dirty work.

This time, the man did something else that got on Vincent’s nerves. He sent Aurora an invitation to his home so that he could get to know the young lady his nephew was entertaining. What it really meant was his uncle wanted to see what he considered to be Vincent’s weakness.

"The trial for the two little girls has been pushed to tomorrow. It was set for two days from now but some of the elders wanted to deal with it now. Word is going to spread throughout the day. Aurora says she has some plans but I am not sure how that will work out by tomorrow." Jane wasn’t worried about Derek because he would just be given a light punishment for not killing the girls instead of allowing them to follow him. Weird enough, some people were glad that he let the girls follow him so that they could put on a hunt like the old days.

"Did she now? She told me that she has a plan also. If she’s so confident it might be a trial to look forward to. What about you? Do you have a plan to help the little ones?" Vincent knew Jane was building a relationship with the young girls. The couple loved children but were unfortunately not able to conceive. freewёbnoνel.com

The world was cruel where people who would make good parents found difficulty in having children but the ones who aren’t fit to be parents were popping out children left and right.

"I have been looking for many ways to help them but I have found nothing. There has never been a case of a human surviving one of our trials. Truthfully, I am scared for both of them and I am not certain if I want to attend the trial. My husband will be there but still..." Jane tried off, unable to explain what she was feeling.

She wished Vincent could intervene and save the little girls but he couldn’t. This was kind of her fault for recommending the trial but it was the only thing she could think of in the heat of the moment. Watching Derek take care of the little girls when she went to visit them had affected her. He would certainly make a could father but she wasn’t certain if she could give him that chance after all the failed attempts. freewebnovёl.ƈom

The way the little girls had looked up at her when she came to visit made her think for a moment that they could be the ones to protect the little ones. Maybe this was meant to happen?

"I know what you are thinking Jane and that would be a hard road for the little ones. Before thinking of anything else it is best we get through the trial first. Do not get your hopes up right now. Aurora is so determined to help the little ones and I am not sure if I want her to attend the trial. I don’t want her to see how cruel the people here can be when it comes to other creatures."

If the little ones were meant to be killed, Aurora might not be able to handle it. Not to forget, all eyes would be on Aurora tomorrow because she is not a wolf. Those who had no memories of her might try to make her stand on trial even if they had to go against Vincent. Luckily. Aurora was different from the children because she came from Artemis. Vincent couldn’t wait to see the surprised expressions and people having to back down from wanting Aurora to stand trial. Specifically his uncle.

"Tomorrow’s trial is going to be a draining one."
