Chapter 123: Here (4)
"You were playing cupid in their relationship without realizing it. They must have made you an important guest at their wedding. What was it like?"
"They did but I didn’t show up," Vincent shrugged as a joke and enjoyed Aurora’s wide-eyed expression. She made it too easy for him to trick her. "I’m kidding. I’m not so heartless to miss their wedding but I did leave early before the drunk people needed to go home. I had no plans to help carry anyone home on my back. However, it was one of the most interesting weddings I had ever been to."
The family drama at the wedding was what entertained him the most like always. Watching the wedding party be split in two fighting over stupid reasons. How could the chaos not be fun?
"Why? Was it really beautiful?" Aurora loved to hear about weddings with the bride’s dress, the decorations, food, and good memories. The whole vibe was something she enjoyed. It was a shame she wasn’t able to attend any and had to listen to what Regina told her. If she had a list of things she wanted to do, going to more weddings would be one but first, she needed to find more friends in order to receive an invitation.
Vincent nodded his head remembering how lavish it was but that wasn’t what made it so interesting as Aurora was thinking. "There was a lot of drama because Jane’s mother didn’t approve of Derek. I had dinner and a show that night. Funny insults and petty arguments. I warned them not to invite family."
"It must suck to have your husband and mother not having a good relationship. Jane must feel between a rock and a hard place. I hope she never gets put in the position where she has to pick between the two of them." Aurora never wanted to be in the position where she had to pick between the two most important people in her life.
"She already picked when she went against her mother’s wishes and married Derek. Jane is a grown woman who can make her own choices. It’s about time her mother accepts her decision. I hope that happens quickly because I am avoiding the woman. She has been stalking me to convince Jane to divorce Derek as if I care," Vincent wasn’t one to care to intervene in people’s problems. He thought he made it very clear over the years.
He also didn’t like how Jane’s mother tried to convince him to take interest in Jane behind Derek’s back. The woman must be writing a drama-filled novel to suggest such a thing to her son-in-law and daughter’s boss.
"Derek going on trial with the little ones isn’t going to help her mother have a good impression of him," Aurora realized at that moment. The situation will become harder for Jane whenever her mother learns of this. ƒreewebɳovel.com
"At least one of you is starting to see how his actions will have a lot of consequences. Not that Derek will mind as he has been very vocal about his opinion of Jane’s mother. It just means the rest of us will have to deal with her pestering. Have you come up with your grand idea of how you will help those two little girls stay here without getting harmed?"
"You keep bringing up an important detail about who I am that I think I have a solution for the trial. If the first part of my plans works, prepare to be amazed when I win the trial. Is it possible for me to visit the girls to see how they are doing?" It was less than a day since they were sent to be imprisoned until the trial and though it seemed like a short amount of time, she knew the young girls must be scared out of their minds.
"Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be right for me to take you when you’ll be trying to defend them at the trial. I have to make a judgment along with the elders and you living with me is already making it appear like I’ll be biased."
"I understand. Is there a way to at least know they are safe? Has Jane been able to visit Derek? She must know something about the girls," Aurora clapped her hands realizing that Jane had to go visit Derek. Was he put with the girls or were they separated? Were the girls kept away from the werewolves in prison? Had they eaten yet? So many questions were filling up her head.
"Must be nice to have someone worry for you this much. I’m suddenly jealous of those two little girls. Maybe I should just..." he trailed off before he found himself in trouble with Aurora because of what he thought of doing for a moment. Maybe he was a cruel person.
"Just what?" Aurora looked at him, waiting for Vincent to finish the end of his sentence.
Vincent coughed looking elsewhere to hide the fact he just had a bad thought. It only made him appear more suspicious."Nothing."
"This is just a guess but I feel like you were just going to say something bad regarding those two little girls. Let’s not go down that rabbit hole again. I want the trial to hurry up so that we can give those little girls a warm place to sleep. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be in an unfamiliar place and be locked up right away. The older sister must be doing her best to comfort her little sister. Doesn’t that move your heart?"
"Not really," Vincent bluntly answered. If they stayed in the human town or returned as he asked, they wouldn’t have found themselves in this position. Why is he supposed to play sad music and feel bad for them when they put themselves in this situation? They followed Derek thinking he was a protector but he could’ve been an undercover pervert. "Your glare looks like a cute little kitten ready to pounce on me. It’s adorable."
Aurora didn’t like the way he still didn’t care for the little girls but she didn’t like even more that he was referring to her as a little kitten when she was angry with him. "If you keep messing with me, one of these days I’ll show you that I’m not a cute little kitten."
Vincent leaned back against her bed, lying partially on his side. He took up a small portion of her hair and started to play with it behind her back. "Need I remind you that a plant hurt your feelings?"
"It wasn’t the plants that hurt my feelings, it was my memories. I am not some cute little kitten either."
"You’re right. A kitten can at least scratch someone. You’re like a small tiny bug on the flowers. Maybe like a mosquito instead." Those little pests stung once in a while.
"Did you just indirectly say that I’m an annoying pest? That’s what most people think of a mosquito. Are you the same guy that just claimed he’s going to woo me?" Aurora asked, appalled after being called a mosquito. "Should I start figuring out what to call you?"
"Technically, I would be a wolf. Very far away from being a mosquito. And aren’t you the same person that made a big deal of how I won’t win your heart? Why did you just bring that up? Why do you put yourself through many conflicts? Fine, how about I refer to you as a beautiful butterfly? Less strong than a mosquito since they can at least suck your blood but at least you are considered beautiful," Vincent shrugged.
"From annoying to harmless. Let’s keep this going to see what other bright ideas you can come up with. If I had to pick you like a bug or some other animal it wouldn’t be a wolf contrary to what you want to think. You’re more like an annoying fly someone tries to swat away but you just keep coming back to get on their nerves," she said. An eye for an eye.
"Need I remind you that you were the one happy to see this so-called annoying fly come home and invited me into your room little butterfly? How did me calling you a cute little kitten lead to this conversation? Let’s talk about something else," he twisted her hair, finding a growing interest in it. He didn’t understand why she didn’t love her hair which he found to be more silver than white. It was beautiful, especially when you saw it under the moonlight.
"Did you not have toys when you were younger Vincent? Why are you playing with my hair so much?" She swatted his hand away from her hair just like the little annoying fly she said he was. Aurora sighed when he just went back to playing with her hair again. She had to admit, it was relaxing to feel him playing with her hair but it was better to make him feel she hated it.
