Chapter 115: Worry (1)
"What do you want to do now Aurora?" Mari asked as soon as she saw Aurora leaving Vincent’s room earlier than she expected. Vincent must’ve been busy, or Aurora became shy about something because of how red her face had become.
Aurora took a deep breath just as she closed Vincent’s door. Somehow, she knew the man was in his room laughing at her reaction to his seemingly harmless comment. However, she knew his intentions behind it. "Sorry, Mari. What did you just say?" She was still thinking about Vincent and hadn’t heard what the young girl asked her.
"What do you want to do now? Go to the library or back to your room till Jane arrives?" There wasn’t much for Mari to entertain Aurora with until she was allowed to go outside of Vincent’s home. She couldn’t wait for Aurora to be formally introduced to everyone so that she could take Aurora around to explore.
"The garden sounds better for now. I want to see the work the gardener has done. Mari, how would a human win a trial here?" Aurora asked as they both started to go back downstairs to the first floor.
Mari laughed not realizing how serious it was to Aurora because a human would never win a trial in a wolf community. It sounded absurd coming from someone’s lips. Mari’s laughter died down when once she noticed Aurora was not amused. "I’m sorry but a human would never win a trial here. Did you do something bad? Is Vincent putting you on trial?"
Aurora silently shook her head. "No, it’s not me. Promise you won’t tell anyone but Derek brought two little girls here with him and they have to go to trial according to Vincent. Is there a way that I can help them?"
"Not that I know of. Normally, the humans are already beaten close to death, so the trial would’ve been pointless. There aren’t many ways you can convince a community of wolves with a strong hatred towards humans to not want to harm a human right in front of them. Believe it or not but I’ve heard there are other wolf packs out there that do more horrible things to humans. If they knew we had humans, they would come to the trial and try their best to take them."
"I assume Vincent wouldn’t allow for another alpha to just waltz in and take them, right?" Asked Aurora. She figured Vincent wouldn’t allow anyone to do as they pleased when he called the trial.
"Of course not. And though those packs have alpha’s, those alpha’s bow to Vincent because none of them have power like he does. They are still strong but not a beast like him. They are the occasional few who still like to test Vincent in a fight. You’ll see them if they come to visit us this year. It’s about time they start coming down from the mountains," Mari said then opened the door which led to the garden for Aurora. Sometimes their visit brought a lot of fun while other times, there was mention of going to war with humans. "Looks like Peter has been hard at work."
Aurora bent down to get a better look at the roses she saw the other day. Instead of the ground being dry it was now moist thanks to Peter paying special attention to them. The roses were too beautiful for Peter to have ignored for so long. "Do you come down here and pick the roses for when you have to draw my bathwater?"
"Yes, I was told you loved flowers and figured you would enjoy them in the water."
"I do. I want to place more of them around the house but I can’t take too many from the garden. Maybe it’s time I practice with the roses." Aurora placed her hand above a small bunch of roses and thought about making them grow. Unfortunately, the roses did the opposite and started to burn. "No," she quickly pulled her hand back, seeing what she had done.
"That’s incredible Aurora," Mari complimented her. She had never seen anything done like this before. She stepped forward to get a better look at what Aurora was doing.
"I wasn’t intending on making them burn. I wanted to make them grow," she rubbed the palm of her hand wondering why the opposite of what she wanted was happening. "I need a lot more practice." freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"It’s still cool that you can do these things with plants. Question, is your ability only with flowers? Is there anything else you do?" A sense of excitement came over Mari at the thought of seeing more things Aurora could do.
"I’m not certain. As I go along, I might learn what else I am capable of. Instead of fooling around in the garden, I should be practicing. I’m going back to my room to practice more. You can do whatever you want for the next few hours. When Jane arrives, please tell her that I wish to be alone for a while," Aurora got up off the ground and dusted off her dress in case there was anything on it.
"Okay," Mari pouted a little sad she couldn’t get to see more of what Aurora could do. Still, she enjoyed having the free time to do whatever she wanted. This might be one of the easiest jobs she ever had thanks to Aurora. ’I hope Abel has some of his bread done for me to taste it. My siblings would love some too,’ she thought to herself.
"Goodbye," Aurora said, going back inside without Mari. She was determined to make something grow without it burning. The space behind her closet had enough room for her to practice in her bedroom. "Ugh," she groaned after bumping into a wall.
"Where are you in a hurry to go?" The wall which was actually Vincent spoke. He had been watching her hurry up the stairs while looking down at her hand. He could have stepped aside for her to pass but if she didn’t bump into him, she might’ve slipped on one of the stairs and fallen. freewebnøvel.com
"Back to my bedroom. Why is your chest so darn hard?" She rubbed the spot on her head which collided with him.
"Working out can get you that perhaps. What is so interesting in your bedroom that you are in a rush to get there and where is Mari?" He was a bit more concerned about where Jane was because she was supposed to be here much earlier to guard Aurora. Sure, her husband had been imprisoned with the two little girls, but he would be fine. A few days locked up couldn’t kill Derek as much as Vincent hoped.
"I’m going to practice growing flowers."
Vincent didn’t understand why she needed to go to her bedroom to practice growing flowers. The dirt, water, flowers, and tools she needed were outside in the garden. He hoped she wasn’t planning on filling her room with the giant thorns like last time. Experiencing it once was enough for him. "I see. Good luck doing that and please do not destroy my house by growing a tree in the middle of it."
"Can I really do that?" Aurora muttered, continuing her way back to her bedroom.
Vincent wanted to smack himself for giving her such an idea. He didn’t have it in his plans for the year to be removing a tree from the middle of his home. Hopefully, he’ll come back to his house the same way he left it because he loved the house as it is now.
With the condition of his house on his mind, Vincent left home in the direction of the gates as he had gotten a bad note from one of the guards who went out to look at the area outside of the gates. On his way to the gates, he spoke with those who had something to say to him now that they caught him on the street. Young wolf children wanted him to stop and play with them but he had no time to spare for playing. He walked instead of riding on his horse so that he could mingle with his people even if it was just for a tiny moment.
"Vincent!" One of the leaders of the patrol guards called to Vincent as they saw him approaching the gates.
"Take me to the area Carl," Vincent told the guard as he walked right out the gates. "What happened last night?"
"Yes sir. Last night was quiet like every other night and there was no one waiting for the gates to open which is good because it means they are all coming in before the gates close. This morning, the scouts went out to check the area to make sure everything on the outside was good and that’s when we saw it," Carl explained. He took Vincent on a five minute walk away from the gates. "This is it."
"Hmm. They’re planning to get on my nerves again," Vincent commented as he inspected the dead body of a human with his blood drained from him.
