Chapter 225: Chapter 143: One Man’s Ascension
A stunningly beautiful, dark-haired girl wearing sunglasses, a crop top, and cargo pants pushed open the car door and stepped out.
Chewing on a piece of gum, she lifted her sunglasses to glance at her phone, then at the address. After confirming she was in the right place, she walked toward Manu’s house.
She quickly crossed the street, happening to brush past Jasmine, who was trembling with anger as she turned and headed for the bus stop.
Jasmine shot a jealous glance at the girl’s snow-white skin, slender waist, and delicate face, and at the Bentley Continental GT behind her. With a flick of her dreadlocks, she walked toward the bus stop without looking back.
Craig, also fuming, kicked over a trash can on the roadside and squatted on the lawn, clutching his head in his hands.
Anya watched this dramatic scene with some bewilderment. As she walked up the steps, she happened to run into Li Wei, who was coming out to greet her.
"The stuff is in the passenger seat," Anya said, giving Li Wei a kiss. The ice queen instantly melted, her eyes practically glued to him. "It’s too heavy for little me to carry~"
Although the animals behind the door couldn’t understand Russian, it didn’t stop them from groaning in agony at Li Wei and Anya’s public display of affection.
Looking at Craig and Jasmine, and then at Li Wei and Anya... it really didn’t bear thinking about. If you did, someone might just decide to go from the 18th floor to the 1st to buy cigarettes—without taking the stairs or the elevator.
"Is this the satellite phone and the handheld for the car radio for the Utah trip next week?" Li Wei asked. "I’ll put them in my car in a bit."
"Mhm," Anya nodded. "Auntie Kaja helped me move it. It’s a huge tactical case."
"You got a new car again," Li Wei said as they walked over to it. "What happened to the G-Wagen?"
"Sold it. I ordered a Black Badge Cullinan to replace it," Anya said, patting the diamond-encrusted pink paint of the Bentley next to her. "This one’s my graduation present to myself. I still have a Ferrari I haven’t even driven yet."
’I hate rich people,’ Li Wei thought, lifting the tactical case. "We’re at a party, but it’ll be over soon. What are you up to later?"
"Shopping for clothes, of course!" Anya said. "Leave room for two suitcases in the back. I brought two suitcases of clothes!"
"By the way," she said, looking at Craig squatting by the lawn, "what’s going on with him?"
Li Wei briefly explained what had happened. He mentioned, as an amusing anecdote, that Jasmine and Craig were Catholic childhood sweethearts who had promised to save themselves for each other. He also included the part about how Jasmine supposedly boosted Craig’s testosterone by tempting him while forbidding him from "tasting the forbidden fruit" or even masturbating.
"So that girl who brushed past me just now was Jasmine?" Anya frowned. "But... I got the feeling she isn’t a virgin."
Li Wei froze. "What?"
"That Jasmine... I don’t think she’s a virgin anymore," Anya said, looking in the direction Jasmine had disappeared. "Her complexion and the way she walks... she looks like she’s done it more than once."
"Are you sure?" Li Wei asked. "Craig is saving himself for her, you know."
"Well... if you’re asking if I’m one hundred percent sure, then no, not really," Anya frowned. "But that’s what my intuition is telling me. And I feel like she picked that fight with your friend on purpose. I don’t think she was actually *that* angry."
"I’ll have someone look into it, then," Li Wei said, kissing Anya. "Happy shopping."
"Jeez," Anya said, wiping her mouth and rolling her eyes at him. "You reek of alcohol. Don’t drink too much."
As they watched the incredibly flashy pink Bentley Continental GT drive off around the corner with a deep rumble, the animals on the porch, who had been enjoying the show, finally snapped out of their daze and let out a chorus of sour, strange cries.
"Good Lord, that was a diamond-encrusted Bentley..." Travis hiccuped, his eyes full of envy and longing. "Buddy, fess up. What kind of good stuff is in that case? Where are you and your damn perfect life off to have fun now?"
"Wipe your drool, Travis." Li Wei picked up the weighty tactical case and explained casually, "It’s just some satellite phones and car radio equipment. I’m planning to go to Utah next week for a road trip, a graduation trip. Anya wanted to put a satellite phone in the car, just to be safe."
"Utah? A road trip?" Travis’s eyes went wide. He glanced at the case in Li Wei’s hands and immediately let out a howl of despair. "Bro, in August I have to start a new steroid cycle and get ready to be a rookie hazed by seniors in college, and you’re taking your rich Slavic girlfriend to see the sights in Utah? Is God Asian or something? Does He have a special bias for you?"
The guys around them joined in the jeering, all flipping Li Wei the middle finger, their words full of strong condemnation—and deep envy—for his decadent, upper-class lifestyle.
Li Wei ignored the wailing of the guys whose brains were full of trenbolone and alcohol. He casually placed the case by the door, his gaze passing over the crowd to land on Craig, who was still squatting on the lawn, sulking and pulling up grass.
He walked over, patted Craig on the shoulder, and pulled him aside to a corner of the garage, away from the noisy crowd. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
"Stop squatting here like a scorned wife," Li Wei said, handing him an unopened bottle of mineral water. "What has Jasmine really been busy with lately? From her state just now, it didn’t seem like she was blowing up just because you were drinking."
Craig took the water, irritably twisted it open, and chugged a large gulp before sighing heavily. "What else could she be busy with? It’s all about my career. I don’t know how, but she recently got in touch with an agent who specializes in the trading card business."
