Chapter 1203: Chapter 304: Maelstrom VIII
Outside the window, silver lightning occasionally streaked across the dark sea, like a dazzling torch lighting up the sky. Brand sat silently by the bed, not far away, Princess Magdalene lay flat on the bed, as quiet as a fairytale’s sleeping beauty deeply slumbering.
After a while, Otarais’s voice echoed in his mind: "Brand, you guessed correctly, this little girl is not human, and even—"
"Not even a living being." Brand’s tone was calm and undisturbed.
"So you’ve already guessed it." The older sister’s raspy voice carried a hint of surprise.
"The creation scripture, the Cruz people’s epic ’Canto of the Azure’ says: ’Life in the Mortal World is born from water, breeds on the Earth, protected by the wind, endowed with wisdom by fire.’ It also says, ’At the beginning of creation, a noble benevolence walked upon the water, granting Spirit to small, humble creatures floating above, making Life what it is.’ However, light and darkness complement each other, where there is positive there is negative, so the person above all gods decided ’at the end of Life lies the realm of the dead, where The Dead gather, managed by a deity.’ But outside the boundaries of life and death, there is a third faction, namely ’stone, metal, and other inanimate objects’."
(Note: The God of the Dead, darkness beneath light, ruler of the Realm of Eternal Damnation Klu)
"I didn’t know you had such a deep understanding of the ’Canto of the Azure’. I’ve dabbled in it a bit. In this era, few can read the Ancient scripture. During the Saint War, these scriptures and prophecies were like a Lighthouse in the Dark for us." Although he couldn’t see it, Brand still felt Otarais turn to look out the window, and he couldn’t help but look over too—
On the cape amidst the raging waves stood a lighthouse, with a beam piercing into the deep sea, like a sharp sword, seeming to be the only truth in the upturned world.
A Magic Power storm at the edge of the Order World was gathering, affecting the civilized world to some extent. This year’s storm over Ambeser’s Outer Sea was fiercer than in previous years, but few noticed this anomaly. Sailboats hauled in their sails, docked in port, waiting for the first venture out after the storm cleared.
"I have a deep connection with the Mages in the tower, as you know well, Lord Otarais. In a way, I’m half a Mage. I’m very interested in history, not just the Cruz people’s ’Canto of the Azure,’ I’ve even read parts of the Black prophecy."
"Though what you say makes sense, I feel you’re hiding something from me," Otarais said with a slight smile, and Brand could sense the mischievous look from the Wind Elf older sister in her tone, "Also, I really wish you’d call me older sister instead of ’Lord Otarais.’"
"I really can’t say that." Brand replied, embarrassed.
Otarais laughed softly.
"Then if you’re my student, calling me teacher shouldn’t be a problem."
"Teacher." Brand called respectfully. Otarais, though unrelated to him, had given him much significant help, even saving him more than once; this care was like that of an elder towards a junior, unspoken but deeply appreciated in Brand’s heart.
Otarais laughed, "Alright, so what do you plan to do next?"
It wasn’t just her asking, many people had gathered in the room. Standing beside Little Roman was Frey, unaware that Brand was conversing with a Heroic Spirit, but seeing Brand’s changed expression, she quickly asked, "How is it, Brand?"
Brand came back to his senses.
He glanced at the others in the room—Su, Antitina, Char, Hu Que, Furlo, and Tina, and other members of the Lubis Mercenary Group, Medphis and Medisha not far by the door, and the silent red-haired girl by his side—all essentially his core group.
"Princess Magdal’s wound pierced her heart. I said before, if it was a normal person, this would be an irreparable fatal blow."
"Ah..." Frey, the foolish girl, froze immediately, tremblingly pointing at Brand, "But... but... Brand you clearly said—"
Brand couldn’t help but laugh, "I said, if it was a normal person, this would be an irreparable fatal blow."
"Oh oh, Brand, are you saying this little girl isn’t a normal person, right?" Among everyone, Romantic reacted the fastest and immediately exclaimed. The others also quickly realized, looking at him with curiosity.
