Chapter 1188: Chapter 299: Whirlpool III
"Princess."
The footsteps stopped outside the walnut door, followed by a woman’s voice, it was the female knight who Brand had seen the other day, resembling his Senior Sister. "Nemesia?" Griffine was arranging her hair with one hand, smoothing out the creases in her gown from the previous confrontation with the other.
"And the old minister, Princess." A deep and decisive voice answered.
"Lord Overwell." Griffine exhaled lightly, in just a few seconds she returned to calm, "Please wait a moment, I was preparing to sleep... Alright, please come in." The door swung open, and outside stood the cold-faced Nemesia and Overwell, Sir Wolf looked as if he had been rained on or had just returned from outside, his clothes soaked.
Nemesia casually closed the door, and Overwell immediately said, "Princess, Macaro and the others have gone to meet Little Majesty -"
"You don’t need to say, I already know everything, Lord Overwell." Griffine interrupted him, raising her head to look at her two close ministers with bright eyes. Nemesia had known her since childhood, their relationship was more of close friends and sisters rather than superior and subordinate, Nemesia had once vowed to become her knight - she was fulfilling her promise, causing Princess Erune to smile subtly, wondering if her elder sister still remembered that naive vow.
She then turned her gaze to Overwell, although nominally Liwu was the teacher to her and the Little Prince, in reality, all her swordsmanship and political insight was taught by the man others called the Lonely Wolf, "Teacher, Sister Nemesia, please prepare, we are leaving Ambeser immediately."
Overwell was slightly stunned, unable to resist looking up. He had prepared a lengthy speech to encourage this Princess, but unexpectedly his student’s resilience exceeded his expectations. He was familiar with the Princess’s temper, and quickly deduced that something must have happened during this period.
Thinking of this, the backbone of the Royalists suspiciously scanned the room, his gaze quickly landing on the open window.
"Teacher, you don’t need to guess, I’ve figured it out. I can’t just hand over Erune’s future, nor can I allow Duke Lantoniyan to split the Kingdom. You once said the Radiant flag still remains in Erune, but can I pick it up again, regardless of how difficult and dangerous the future may be?" Griffine asked.
"One never knows the result without trying, Princess." Overwell withdrew his gaze, looking with approval at the Princess.
"However, the current priority is to return to my territory, where I will launch a war against the Xifah Family and the Holy Temple. I believe the people will stand with us, Eruein has never forgotten their heroic battles with the Cruz people, only those who have forgotten their noble vows have." Princess Griffine nodded.
Overwell bowed slightly in agreement, he spoke: "Then the Holy Temple surely knows of the internal disputes within us, but it wouldn’t expect us to break so quickly, this is indeed our only chance." He turned back, "Nemesia, how many Royal Knights can you mobilize?"
The Great Commander of the Royal Knights, Cadler, is Liwu’s student, a die-hard member of the Royalists, this season he definitely wouldn’t stand with the Princess; Overwell previously arranged for Nemesia to join the Royal Knights in order to constrict the Great Commander’s power, but so far Nemesia only holds prestige among the young generation of knights.
Nemesia lowered her head in contemplation, her face cold as she replied, "No more than thirty percent, and they’re all officer cadets graduated from the Knight Academy, lacking practical experience."
"That’s a bit lacking." The princess furrowed her brows.
"Perhaps we can seek external help." Overwell smiled slightly.
"External help?" The Princess looked alarmed, glancing towards the wardrobe.
"Count Otin seems to greatly admire the Princess’s act of opposing the Kingdom’s division, when I escorted him out earlier, his words implied a willingness to stand with us. He has a mercenary group under him, who came back with him from the Black Forest, if persuaded to join us, it would not only help our current situation." Sir Wolf finally revealed the origin of his damp clothes.
"Teacher, can you persuade Count Otin?" Griffine’s eyes flashed with delight, not only because of the unexpected external aid but also because her stand was recognized by the traditional nobles. Though Brand’s forces briefly showed prominence during the Tonyger war, at the root, the Princess still didn’t believe an emerging force had significant clout.
