Chapter 1177: Chapter 295: General Star (Part 3)

However, what surprises him more is his relationship with Breson. He knows Breson likes Frey, and even a fool can see Frey’s feelings for him. Thinking about it this way, that guy is definitely planning to oppose him to the end. Thinking of this, Brand couldn’t help but feel a bit of a headache.

But among the Princess’s talented future generals, there really isn’t anyone who can compare to this Viscount von Doggen. After all, the latter has several years of military experience, while Breson and the others are entirely academic. Frey has personally heard Nemesia say that when it comes to a real fight, among the new generation of leaders under the Princess, only she can barely stand against this rising young star.

Nonetheless, Brand put away his murderous intent. The reason being, he happened to know another part of the famous history: an obscure country girl defeated the Kingdom’s acknowledged genius, leading Erune to have a Valkyrie. This guy was Frey’s first stepping stone; one could say the title of Valkyrie was achieved by stepping over this unlucky fellow during the subsequent civil war.

Seeing this unlucky fellow, Brand suddenly decided not to eliminate him.

"Hmm?" Viscount von Doggen raised a slight eybrow: "What is public and what is private?"

"Public means dealing with matters publicly. Didn’t you say I took action against the Royal Family’s Forbidden Army? However, I would like to ask which Royal Family’s Forbidden Army you are referring to. We can discuss this issue, and if you can indeed prove your identity, I am willing to compensate for your losses." Brand replied with a smile.

The young man was suddenly dumbfounded upon hearing this. Indeed, who is the legitimate Royal Family of Erune— isn’t this the issue to be discussed at the Ambeser conference? If they could resolve it here, then why would so many Dukes and Royal Family members gather at Ambeser? Besides, by the time this issue is truly settled, the North and South might have already gone to war, at which point the Black Blade Legion wouldn’t have time to bother Brand.

"This... I think this is our private matter, it’s better to resolve it privately." Fortunately, he was quick-witted and hurriedly added.

"Resolve privately?" Brand’s expression turned cold as he took off his white gloves and shook them in front of Viscount von Doggen: "Resolving privately is simple too. Your men collided with my carriage, and I injured your Earth Dragon. For the sake of our honor, let’s have a fair and noble duel like nobles do."

"Ah?" Viscount von Doggen’s face turned green instead of blue now. He originally wanted to exploit the Black Blade Legion’s reputation to make Brand suffer a hidden loss, but he didn’t expect Brand to immediately propose a duel.

At this point, even the Nun Princess couldn’t help but laugh. Brand’s words were incredibly mischievous; anyone knows that with Golden Late Stage strength, he defeated a great swordsman of Elemental Enlightenment. Though the public was unaware Brand used a little trick, his swordsmanship is widely recognized as high-caliber. Viscount von Doggen surely recognized him, but by saying this, it’s a bit too much.

However, Magdal doesn’t find Brand arrogant now. Instead, she finds this Highland Knight’s unconventional approach quite intriguing.

She couldn’t help but watch their reactions with considerable interest.

Antitina beside them couldn’t help but shake her head, wondering what this fool was doing, daring to provoke her Lord, knowing he never suffers a loss.

Viscount von Doggen’s reaction was simple; he certainly could not agree. Though he was of Silver Rank as a swordsman, considered talented among the youth, against Brand, he knew that even if he multiplied himself tenfold, he wouldn’t stand a chance. Duel with Brand, would that not be courting death?

Yet refusing was also impossible. Rejecting a rightfully challenged duel would mean losing face in the noble circle – and it’s not only his face, Brand included the Black Blade Legion in his demand, challenging him to fight for them. He felt tears welling up, thinking how dark this person was, one sentence forcing him to a dead end.

Brand held the Earth Sword leisurely, watching this unlucky man. The changing expressions on von Doggen’s face evoked Brand’s marvel that humans can be chameleons too.

However, at this moment, Magdal knew she must intervene; she certainly couldn’t let Brand slay Viscount von Doggen with a sword here. She knew Brand likely didn’t intend to do so, merely wanted to have fun at the expense of his opponent. Seeing the Viscount’s face alternately blanching and blanching, she couldn’t help but sigh; it’s true that self-inflicted misery cannot be lived.

"Let it be, this is San Pino Square, and Bishop Andel advocates building this square to commemorate the truce between Erune and Kruz. Duels are not permitted here," she gently reminded.

"Exactly!" Suddenly, von Doggen felt the Nun Princess’s voice was heavenly: "In that case, my duel with the gentleman must be postponed."

"There’s such a story?" Brand looked back at Magdal, the Nun Princess playfully winked at him. Brand couldn’t help but smile internally, realizing this Princess is not rigid after all. He nodded: "Then follow local customs, I’ll let it go this time. Shall we set a future date instead?"

Viscount von Doggen’s expression changed quickly and he replied vaguely, "Let’s schedule it after the noble conference ends." He knew the Ambeser conference’s end was indefinitely, and both sides would need preparation time. Besides, when it concludes, and Southern and Northern civil war breaks out, he would have ample methods to deal with this guy once back with the army.

But for now, he dared not linger a second longer, leaving these harsh words before fleeing with his men.

Brand shook his head: "Ah, youngsters."

Antitina beside him rolled her eyes. By this time, the auction house manager had been deeply alarmed and finally came forward. Having long seen Brand and Princess Magdal, yet hesitant to offend either side, especially since one was from the Black Blade Legion, he instead waited for the dispute to end naturally. Acknowledging his behavior wasn’t quite decent considering both were distinguished guests, he shyly greeted them: "Are you both alright? Those guys are always so arrogant. The VIP room is ready; would you like to enter now?"

Magdal understood his predicament and never intended to blame him, she merely turned and looked at Brand.

Brand nodded.
