Chapter 1157: Chapter 289: The Length of Time_3
Frey silently sat down next to Brand without a word. She adjusted her long ponytail and replied softly, "To be honest, Brand, I never thought our Kingdom would be plunged into so much danger. Back when I was under Captain Madden, I always thought the Kingdom might have some issues, but it was still strong. Life was so peaceful then, as if war was so far away."
"Do you think this country can still be saved?" Brand turned his head to look at the girl’s beautiful profile.
"I don’t know, but I will live and die with it."
"Is this what you learned at the Royal Academy?"
"Some of it. But I feel like these emotions have always been buried in my heart; I just couldn’t see them clearly before. Brand, I actually want to thank you. You made me decide to go to the Royal Military Academy. Now I realize that it is the most valuable experience in my life, and I think—it might have already changed my life," Frey thoughtfully replied.
Brand chuckled softly.
But the feelings in his heart were hard to describe; ultimately, it had come to this step. The future Valkyrie now sat beside him. She had recognized her true self; she was born to be like this, like the Sun, destined to burn until the last bit of Light. Once, Brand hoped he wouldn’t change the path of this girl’s future, but today he felt that the ordinary Frey of the past might have been more her true self.
Who has this rotten Kingdom really changed, and who has war changed?
The levity of Brand’s gamer mentality faded somewhat, and he suddenly sensed the voice of this World from another perspective. To everyone, history and the future are like an unchanging Destiny. It’s so heavy, it makes people carry bets like faith and honor, gambling their entire lives to alter it all.
"What do you think of the Princess?" Brand asked again.
Frey didn’t answer but instead asked, "Brand, can you tell me? How did you know the Princess would stand out among the nobles of Erune?"
"So, you recognize the Princess’s ideals?"
"Cunning, but I asked first." Frey glared at Brand, angrily asking, "Brand, are you a member of the Royalists?"
Brand was taken aback, but inwardly he marveled that this girl from Buqi countryside had grown up. Though still the same Frey, she had attained more insights, even knowing about the Royalists. However, he shook his head: "You know, I’m a Highland Knight, and Highland Knights generally don’t have much to do with the Royalists."
The girl slightly paused, then nodded. She remembered that Brand used to talk to her like this, but back then, she totally didn’t understand what his mentions of ’Royalists,’ ’Highland Knights,’ ’Tower Wizards’ meant. Speaking of which, Frey felt a bit embarrassed; during those times, she naively thought Brand was a noble gentleman.
Even though this hateful guy is indeed from a noble family.
For a moment, both of them fell into reminiscing.
They recalled the starry sky of Buqi, remembered the near-death experience with Josen at the hands of the Corpse Witch, recalled the mountain path, remembered the Golden Tree, Ridenburg’s prison, the battles under the night sky, and the burning city. Destiny is like a wondrous thread, changing in unforeseeable ways because of some twist.
After a long time, Frey asked, "Is Romantic okay? You haven’t bullied her, have you?"
"As long as she doesn’t bully me, everything’s fine," Brand replied.
The girl couldn’t help but laugh; it seemed indeed to be the case.
Then she said, "The Princess wants to meet you, Brand."
"Alright."
Brand nodded.
