Chapter 64: Chapter 64 Sweet Revenge

Elara

I stared at the text message from an unfamiliar number, skimming through it quickly. Behind the fake heartfelt words, I could sense nothing but empty promises.

Just Nadia trying to save face again.

I rolled my eyes.

[ Too little, too late, Mom.]

Looking up at the man across the dinner table, I asked, "Did you go see my mother today?"

"No," Dominic replied calmly while carefully removing bones from the fish on my plate. "Alpha Enzo came to me begging for mercy. I just had a few words with him."

My instincts told me there was more to this story than he was letting on.

And knowing Dominic, those "few words" probably left Enzo shaking.

"What did you do to Enzo ?" I probed carefully.

Dominic’s voice remained neutral as he continued preparing my food. "Nothing much. Just bought out a piece of land he’d been desperately wanting."

"Bought out" my ass. More like bulldozed his way through any competition.

I didn’t dare ask how much that land was worth. The casual way he mentioned it suggested it was probably worth more than entire neighborhoods. freēwebnovel.com

When you’re the Alpha King, dropping millions like pocket change is just Tuesday.

"Just to get back at them for me?" I couldn’t help asking.

"Yes," Dominic smiled slightly, his eyes meeting mine. "Just to get back at them for you."

I couldn’t figure out what my fake husband was thinking. I felt touched, even shocked by his actions.

But wasn’t he supposed to be gay?

"Dominic, why are you being so nice to me?" The question slipped out before I could stop it.

Damn it. Way to sound needy, Elara.

Dominic raised an eyebrow, looking almost amused. "You call this nice?"

"Compared to most Alphas? Hell yes." I gestured with my fork. "Most of them treat their mates like trophies on a shelf. You actually listen when I talk."

His expression shifted slightly. Something softer flickered in his eyes.

"Luna Wolfe, sit up straight. Don’t embarrass me," he added, but his tone lacked any real bite. It sounded more like gentle teasing than a real command.

I straightened my posture automatically, then caught myself. Wait, what? Since when do I follow orders without sass?

This is weird. Usually I’d tell him where to shove his posture comments.

Something about his words touched me deeply. The way he said it felt... protective. Like he cared about how others saw me. My eyes flickered with emotion. "Thank you."

"Don’t mention it."

We sat in comfortable silence for a moment. This domestic thing was throwing me off completely.

Dominic glanced at his phone and made a small sound of annoyance. His jaw tightened. "Another peacemaker is looking for me."

"Who?" I asked.

"No one important. Don’t wait up for me tonight. I might be back late." He paused, then added with deliberate casualness, "Don’t worry, it’s just business. I won’t be looking for company."

My fork stopped halfway to my mouth. Was he actually reassuring me about... other women?

Then he added quietly, "Male or female."

Oh.

OH.

My ears burned instantly, and I wanted to bury my face in my bowl. Heat crawled up my neck like wildfire. "Oh my God, did he just...?" "Just... go already!"

Why did he have to spell it out like that? Now I’m thinking about things I definitely shouldn’t be thinking about.

Dominic stared at my flushed face, his eyes darkening slightly. The air in the room suddenly felt thicker. His tongue briefly wet his lips. "Luna Wolfe, has anyone ever told you..."

I looked up, confused. And probably looking like a tomato. "What?"

"That when you blush, it’s quite... irresistible."

My brain short-circuited.

Did the Alpha King just call me irresistible? What alternate universe did I wake up in?

I watched his tall figure disappear through the doorway, my cheeks burning even hotter than before. My heart was doing weird fluttery things that I absolutely did not appreciate.

My wolf practically swooned at his words, despite my confusion.

[He likes us!]she purred happily.

[Shut up,]I told her. [This is probably some kind of Alpha mind game.]

But even as I thought it, I didn’t really believe it.
