Chapter 66: Chapter 66

Nathan’s POV

He held my gaze. Was he trying to be brave? Or stupid? ƒreewebɳovel.com

My wolf leaned forward, testing him.

Peter sneered."You came after me so aggressively, Alpha Nathan. Was it just to force Aria back to your side?"

He didn’t dodge, he didn’t cower.

He called her by her name like he had any right to do so.

The room froze.

The temperature dropped with my mood. Even the air tasted sharp and metallic.

A chilling aura seeped from me, but Peter didn’t flinch.

Collins, though, looked like he might pass out on the spot.

He must probably be having some panick thoughts:

Wondering if Peter had a death wish.

I thought he came here to plead with me.

Instead, the idiot was challenging me head-on.

I let the silence stretch until even the walls seemed to tremble under it.

Then my voice sliced through the air, cold and lethal.

"Peter, Aria is my wife and to you, she is Luna Aria, don’t you ever fail to address her as that next time. What exactly are your intentions, hiding her away?"

The slight lift at the end of the sentence wasn’t an accident. It was a threat.

But Peter still didn’t back down.

"Luna Aria should’ve already delivered the divorce papers. To the best of my knowledge, she doesn’t want to stay married to you anymore"

And with that, the room didn’t just turn cold, It became a frozen wasteland.

My wolf bared his teeth, and deep inside my chest, something dark and possessive uncoiled.

My eyes narrowed on Peter, sharp as a predator locking onto prey. My wolf prowled beneath my skin, hackles lifting, scenting his confidence like it was a challenge.

"So what?" I said, my voice low and cold."She wants a divorce, and that makes you happy? You have feelings for her?"

He didn’t answer, he didn’t need to.

His silence stank of truth.

A bitter laugh tore from my throat. I leaned back, staring him down with all the disdain I felt burning in my chest.

"I’m not signing that agreement," I said flatly."And as long as I don’t, she’s still my wife."

My wolf snarled possessively at the word wife.

"I can’t believe Aria—of all people—" I scoffed,"a convict who stole someone else’s work—can still attract men like you."

Sarcasm dripped from my tongue like poison.

"And to think, I gave you a job. Turns out I was feeding a snake."

Whatever expression had been on my face before vanished.

What remained was ice. Pure, hard fury.

Peter’s brows pulled together. He clenched his fists, but his voice stayed maddeningly calm."Luna Aria is someone worth admiring."

My palm slammed onto the desk with a crack, vibrating through the room.

My wolf surged forward, its teeth bared.

"‘Worth admiring,’ huh? Aria?" I growled."Peter, you really have the nerve to fall for my wife." ƒreewebɳovel.com

My palm stayed pressed to the table as my body tensed, every instinct screaming to leap across and tear his throat out.

He lowered his lashes, silent again.

And that, his calm silence, only fueled my anger.

Then something clicked.

Aria had no friends in Asterfell.

The only person she’d kept in touch with over the years was probably Peter.

So how did she end up with a child?

My thoughts froze.

My eyes sharpened on him.

I didn’t realize my fingers were trembling until I felt the wood under my nails.

"Whose child is it?" I growled.

The question had lived under my tongue far too long.

Peter didn’t answer, not directly.

Instead, his eyes softened with something unmistakable, a glimmer of... pride?

He smiled, faint but confident."Alpha Nathan, you’ve already done your digging. Luna Aria wouldn’t have come to me with a child unless there was a good reason."

"You think I’ll believe that?" I hissed.

"It doesn’t matter whether you do," he replied smoothly."Before Luna Aria went to prison, I attended a few events with her. One night, she got drunk, and I didn’t resist how I felt about her."

Blood roared in my ears.

"Shut your mouth!" I snarled, my wolf slamming against my ribs, rage vibrating through every word.

He was a lawyer...Oh he was a lawyer..that was the only reason I was restraining myself from doing what I was itching badly to do. I should already have cracked a few bones in his wretched body by now, but I managed to rein my anger under control, I wouldn’t want to be hit with a lawsuit.

"Do you even hear what you’re saying?" I said.

"It was my mistake," Peter continued, obviously aiming to get me mad."Luna Aria knew nothing about it. But the consequences are what they are. So tell me, Alpha Nathan—do you still plan to break up the family we’ve built?"

Family.

The word hit me like a claw to the gut.

Peter held my gaze, unflinching."Besides, you set a trap for me. Do you think we haven’t handled enough of Hemsworth Group’s cases to know your weaknesses? I may not be a bigshot, but push me hard enough, and I can make Hemsworth Group bleed."

Was the child really his?
