Chapter 41: Chapter 41

Aria’s POV

The movie was almost over. With a glance at my watch, I gathered Lana up in my arms. Peter should be here by now, I thought.

I decided to step out of the theater in hopes of seeing him. When I stepped out, I spotted his car, he had just arrived.

As I walked toward the car, he approached me with a smile on his face and asked softly "Is Lana sleepy?"

His eyes were already on the bundle in my arms, noticing her closed eyes.

I smiled softly, nodding, the warmth of the moment lingering. I settled into the back seat, Lana curled protectively in my arms.

We drove in silence, and I couldn’t help but let my gaze drift out the window. The night was deep now, the sky black and heavy. Tree shadows flickered past in endless rows, moving like ghosts at the edge of the sidewalk.

Lana felt so light in my arms, so small and fragile. She was so perfect and innocent. I gazed at her, watching her tiny, peaceful face, her little breaths steady and slow. It was a moment of peace.

Nathan’s POV

My heart clenched as I watched her. I had followed Peter to this theatre, wondering what exactly he was doing here.

Then I saw her walking towards Peter.

"Alpha Nathan, that looks like Luna Aria?" Collins’s voice was cautious, his words coming slower than usual as he glanced at me in the rearview mirror. He quickly looked away, no doubt sensing the storm brewing inside me.

I didn’t answer right away. My gaze was fixed, narrowed, watching Peter’s car disappear down the road, taking Aria with him.

That was definitely Aria. Even though it was a bit dark, I knew it had to be her.

My chest tightened. A growl built low in my throat, but I forced it down. The wolf inside me wanted to tear through everything.

Why couldn’t I sense her presence though? She was my mate right? And my wolf was heightened to her scent...but why?...why didn’t she have any scent.

That was when it hit me. She must be using scent blockers to prevent me from reaching her. That was the only explanation, they only reason I have been unable to find her.

She has been avoiding me only to be with Peter?

That wooden, lifeless lawyer she’d practically hand-picked and promoted. Did she really think he was better than me?

My teeth ground together, and the temperature in the car seemed to drop as my mood soured. Collins’ knuckles went white on the steering wheel, his breath hitching as he stared at me. He knew what I was capable of, and right now, he knew that whatever I was thinking wasn’t pretty. freewebnøvel.coɱ

"Alpha Nathan," Collins ventured again, his voice quieter this time, "looks like they’re heading toward the residential area near the suburbs. Should we follow?"

I didn’t respond right away. The growl in my chest was getting harder to suppress. I had no time for weakness now. She had some nerve. The image of her disappearing from the prison without a word when I’d cleared my schedule just for her, that still burned.

I should’ve expected it. But then she moved in with him... a lawyer who could barely hold his own in a conversation, let alone her bed.

My skin felt tight, my bones aching with the hunger to hunt. My wolf paced restlessly inside me, every instinct screaming at me to take what was mine.

"Follow them," I muttered, my voice low and deadly.

As soon as the words left my mouth, Collins didn’t hesitate. He slammed the gas pedal down, the engine roaring to life as the car surged forward. I let my eyes stay locked on their car as we followed them, barely aware of the passing scenery.

They didn’t even notice us, didn’t notice the shadow trailing them as they turned, heading toward the house. That was the house Peter had stopped by at first before going to the movie theater. I had seen him take the documents he had brought for me to sign inside the house.

I was about to step out and follow him after a while but I saw him come back out and lock the entrance of his house. That was the clue I needed to know that Aria was not inside.

He got into his car and I had Collins follow slowly behind him. Now here we were again, back at the house.

When they pulled up to the house, I had Collins stop at a safe distance.

I stayed perfectly still, my gaze locked on the house. My breath was steady, but inside? My wolf was howling, clawing at the cage I kept it in, eager for what was about to come.
