Chapter 141: Chapter 141
Aria’s POV
My heart stopped at his words. For a second, the whole world went silent.
Rowland?
I’ve known Rowland for barely a handful of days. Yet he thought this was about him? Shock hit me so hard my wolf stumbled.
So this is it. Sophia whispers a few lies, and suddenly I’m a cheating whore in his eyes?
I stared at him... and for the first time, I realized I never knew this man at all.
A year ago, I was dragged into prison, accused of crimes I didn’t commit.
My mate, my husband...never believed in me. Not once. Not even enough to listen.
My fate was sealed in minutes.
Now he thinks I’ve been sleeping with another man?
Just because Sophia said so?
My wolf recoiled, wounded and furious.
Nathan’s face blurred at the edges as my vision swam, but I forced myself to keep my chin lifted. My wolf paced inside me, restless and furious, telling me to snarl, to bare my teeth, to show him I wasn’t the trembling little helpless wolf he thought I was.
Instead, I met his gaze head-on.
“Nathan,” I said, letting out a breath that scraped my throat raw, “if you don’t trust me, why should we keep holding on to this marriage in name only? Sign the divorce papers when I send them once more. It’ll be better for both of us.”
My voice sounded steady. I couldn’t believe there was a time when I had loved this male once, so deeply.
His eyes, already dark, suddenly rimmed red with his wolf. The color that warned of losing control.
He gently set Lana beside him, but that gentleness only made my stomach clench. It meant he was trying not to shift. Trying not to break something or someone.
Then he stood.
A massive, shadowed Alpha rising to his full height.
My breath hitched as his presence crushed over me like a wave. My wolf whimpered, backing into the corners of my chest, her ears flattened.
He stepped forward.
I couldn’t retreat fast enough.
His fingers closed around my chin, not roughly, but with unyielding dominance. His heat seared through me, and fury crashed into my senses.
“Aria,” he growled, his voice scraping like claws against stone, “do you really think I’m that easy to talk to?”
My pulse hammered. Goddess help me, part of me felt the old pull tugging at my ribs, the one I thought had died in prison. But the other part of me remembered the cold walls, the chains, the abandonment.
His thumb brushed my chin barely and a shiver snaked down his arm. I felt it. He felt it.
But his expression only darkened.
“From today onward,” he said, “you’re free to enter and leave Hemsworth Villa. But if you ever try escaping again—” his voice dropped, colder than winter steel, “—I will bring you back. And I won’t guarantee your freedom when I do.”
My blood iced.
He was serious.
My knees nearly buckled as a violent tremor tore through me. Is Nathan actually trying to imprison me? My wolf bristled, snarling at him, but even she couldn’t hide the small flicker of fear.
He saw it.
And for the shortest moment, pity flashed across his eyes, almost enough to soften him.
But I didn’t care. Rage exploded in my chest, hot and blinding. My hand flew before I even realized it. ƒrēewebnovel.com
The sharp crack echoed through the villa.
Nathan’s head snapped to the side.
Under the glittering chandelier, his profile looked carved in cold stone. Beautiful, yes, but in that moment, all I saw was a monster who had destroyed my life.
“This is illegal imprisonment!” I screamed, mybreath shaking. “It’s against the law!”
He touched his cheek. Didn’t flinch, didn’t snap. He simply... chuckled.
A deep, low sound that skated over my skin and made me want to claw his face off.
He turned back to me, his eyes burning in a terrifying and possessive man.
“We’re husband and wife,” he said. “It’s you who keeps trying to run.”
His gaze locked onto mine with a madness that made my heart stumble. That wasn’t anger. It was obsession.
I didn’t wait to see what he’d do. I lunged for Lana. Nathan moved faster.
Damn Alpha reflexes.
His arms closed around me, and before I could twist away, he was right there, his face inches from mine, his breath warm against my lips.
“Nathan—don’t—” I started. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
He kissed me.
My mind went blank.
My wolf froze, then howled, confused and aching all at once. My body felt suspended in time, my hearing muffled as if I’d been submerged underwater.
His hands slid behind my waist, locking my wrists in a firm, punishing grip. His lips were hot, angry, and desperate. And when his tongue touched mine, a shock tore through me.
The bond. The damn bond woke up like a sleeping beast.
My breath caught. My heart, the traitorous thing skipped.
But when his tongue suddenly stung on my teeth, he pulled back, drawing a sharp breath. His eyes cleared like a fog had lifted.
We separated.
My lips felt bruised. It was burning. He stared at them, hungry and unashamed.
I felt nauseated, angry and humiliated.
I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand, shaking. We’re mates only in name. What right does he have? How dare he claim something he abandoned?
“You think this is revenge, don’t you?” I snapped, my laugh brittle, hysterical. “Because you think I’m involved with Rowland? Sophia lies against me and suddenly I’m a cheating slut?”
His brows furrowed, but I cut him off, my voice sharp as claws:
“I will never forgive you. And I will do everything in my power to divorce you.”
