Chapter 46: Too intense
As soon as Ryan spotted the car approaching, he discreetly grabbed his phone from his pocket and called John, who picked up right away. Without a single word exchanged between the two, John hung up. And before long he appeared in the hallway, walking back to his original position in silence.
Ryan did the same, and soon the doorknob turned, revealing a new figure. A man in simple clothes, though expensive ones on closer inspection. He glanced briefly at Ryan, frowning, and then at John. Unlike the Major, this one gave Ryan no particular impression.
He looked like someone ordinary.
His daughter, however, who followed behind him with her phone in hand, scrolling through the screen frequently, was a different story. She radiated an aura that was eye-catching to say the least. Her clothes screamed glamour and money, a lot of money. Her bag was designer and her rose-tinted glasses carried an elegance beyond measure.
Her silky chestnut hair was partially hidden beneath a small hat, just as her green eyes were concealed behind the glasses. The more Ryan looked, the more his eyes took in.
Ryan swallowed hard.
It was a lot of information!
So much in a single person!
Suddenly, however, the girl looked up from her phone and caught his gaze as he studied her without restraint. On the outside Ryan stayed cold, but on the inside he flinched with embarrassment. And for some reason, it felt as though she had noticed. As though she had peered into his soul.
She gave him a small, mischievous smile, making his heart skip a beat.
The CEO beside her soon gave a dry cough. "I imagine he’s already here, so let’s get this over with. Take me to him." He said, to which John nodded and led him away. "Hopefully this won’t take much of my time. I still have plenty of meetings today, and those hardheads in the military always want things their way and only their way... what a pain."
Ryan listened to the man speak without an ounce of belief in what he was saying. If anything, the man seemed quite unoccupied. Nothing like the Major from before. Even so, that was something for John to handle. His mission was a different one.
"My name is Ryan and I will be at your service today, miss." Ryan said with a slight bow. "Please, if you would follow me..." Suddenly, an arm looped around Ryan’s while a head rested softly against his shoulder. An intense chill ran through every cell of his body.
"Oh, really?" She said with that same smile, looking up towards him. "In that case, please show me the way." Ryan nodded on the outside while the scent of sweet perfume washed over him. He was left mildly unresponsive to her teasing.
"Alright." Even if he didn’t show it outwardly. The soft touch and the sweet scent... it was too much for his mind to process.
For a moment he failed to understand what was happening. He simply reacted on autopilot, as the girl laughed softly, seeing right through him. While, he guided her to her table.
"You’re so stiff. You don’t need to be that nervous. I don’t bite. Pinky promise." She kept teasing. Ryan nodded in the most indifferent way he could manage. Anyone watching would say he was behaving as usual, unable to detect any variation in his reaction.
But that girl... she seemed to see through whatever mask he put on and she was having fun at his expense. Ryan had never faced anyone like this before, it terrified him. He knew he was facing a unique predator, but how was he supposed to take it down?! He didn’t know! freewёbnoνel.com
"I hope it is to your liking." He pulled out the chair for her to sit and adjusted it for her.
"Oh, what a gentleman." She remarked in passing. "Treats me so well and even has a delicious meal prepared for me, I can see you’ve been waiting for me anxiously. What a fine gentleman..." She then studied the lavish table before her a little more, bringing a hand to her chin. "But you seem to be waiting so eagerly for me. Something seems off here..." She murmured, sharpening her gaze and covering her mouth with her hand.
"..."
’Did she notice the test?!’ He thought in surprise, raising his guard. ’This is not good.’ Ryan became concerned about his reputation and that of Manhattan.
"Hmm... I know it’s your job to treat me so well..." She said before turning to look Ryan straight in the eyes."But..."
She watched him in silence, total silence, with her two round eyes, her gaze making him more and more tense.
’I have to be careful... ’His mind kept working. ’if she accuses me of something, things won’t end well. I need to be prepared!’
He maintained eye contact, but... she just kept staring at him.
For the first time, he wanted to look away.
’Keep looking!’
That was so hard!
"..."
She then chuckled teasing him.
"But is that the only reason you went this far? Did you knew I was coming? If yes... So..." She smiled again, holding his gaze. Then said slowly, tilting her head: "Could it be that... you... wanted... something... more?" She giggled softly. Ryan’s focus drifting to her red lips. "If you’re honest with me, maybe I can grant you a small wish."
Ryan remained silent. His mind failed to comprehend what was happening. Was he in danger? Was that a carnivorous beast he was supposed to hunt? Well... at least it felt like he was about to be devoured by it.
She then said again: "Sounds like a good deal to me, don’t you think?"
Ryan swallowed hard, his blood was heating up. But, he took a deep breath before speaking. "This is simply the standard treatment we offer to someone of your caliber." He then gestured discreetly toward Brayan. "See, he also has a table just as lavish as yours."
"Oh, he does!" She said, though her smile never faded. "In that case, this café really is very good." She then reached for a slice of cake and began to eat with delicacy and elegance.
She let out a soft moan as she worked her way through the many sweets on the table. "Everything is really very good, impressive. I wasn’t expecting such royal treatment..." She shifted her attention away from Ryan, prompting him to add.
"And this is only the beginning." He said, catching her off guard. "I am here to attend to your every wish, no matter what it may be, miss. Your wish is my command. Just say it." Ryan said dutifully.
"Wow~ such devotion... Aren’t you afraid I’ll take advantage of your goodwill? And I might use you..." She turned her focus back to him.
They looked at each other in silence.
For a long time.
"This is my job and I take It very seriously." He said, making her laugh for quite a while.
She then cleared her throat, before glancing over at Brayan from a distance. "Did you say the same to him?" Ryan took a deep breath before answering:
"No, I did not..."
She smiled from the corner of her mouth.
"Hmm... how interesting..." She murmured, before adding. "I’ll keep that in mind."
Ryan nodded and then said. "Now, if you’ll allow me, I’ll go prepare you a coffee and will be right back." She frowned slightly before speaking, much like Brayan had.
"Even though I didn’t ask for coffee?..." Ryan agreed before opening his mouth to reply, but she was quicker. "Well, I’m feeling a little adventurous today. So why not surprise me?" Ryan was left without words.
"Of course..." He nodded and went to prepare the coffee while she ate cake in the distance, occasionally glancing over at him, making him swallow hard each time.
’She is an elegant and intense person who has a sweet tooth.’ Ryan watched her eat one sweet after another without the slightest sign of feeling sick. ’In that case...’ Ryan reached for a mug instead of a simple cup.
A short while later he made his way back to her table. "Let’s see, let’s see. What did my dear gentleman bring me." She said playfully as he served her.
"This is a Mocha, the house style." Ryan introduced. "It’s a drink made with espresso, a generous amount of milk, chocolate and heavy cream, topped with whipped cream and cocoa powder for decoration. In your case I decided to use milk chocolate, making the drink even sweeter. See what you think."
"Ah~ It looks beautiful, almost too pretty to drink." She reached for the mug with a straw. "Do you think I could take a photo first? To post on social media." She asked, beaming.
"I’m not sure your father would approve." Ryan said. "After all, social media is..."
"A way to track us. They could find out he was here because of me." She finished his thought. "I know... but it really is a shame..." She nearly cried.
But in the end she drank through the straw with a pouty face, only to widen her eyes immediately after. "Wow! This is really very good!" She said. "You can tell a lot of dedication went into this drink."
"It’s the least I could do." She laughed before saying.
"You always say that, don’t you? I know, I’ve been asking so little of you..." Ryan frowned. "So... I’ve been thinking to myself. You said my wish is your command, didn’t you?" She smiled mischievously.
"Yes... ask for whatever you’d like and I’ll find a way. I only ask that it isn’t too difficult an order to carry out." Ryan said carefully.
"It won’t be difficult... This time... I promise." She said before resting her face against her hand on the table. "I just thought that... goodness, it’s so hard to eat and drink at the same time. I can’t give both the attention they deserve at once... so..." She looked at Ryan, who already saw where this was going.
"It would be wonderful if someone could feed me while I focus only on this marvelous drink." Ryan tensed.
"But you don’t have to if you don’t want to." She said. "It’s just a selfish little request of mine." She said, already knowing Ryan’s answer.
He promptly pulled up a chair, grabbed the plate with the cake and picking up a fork, cut off a piece. "Say ah..." He said, burning with embarrassment on the inside.
"Ah~" She said, opening her mouth wide. He brought the food to her, and she closed her mouth with a pleased moan, then drank from the Mocha with even more delight. Then, once again she turned toward him and opened her mouth wide.
’I cannot believe I am doing this.’ Ryan thought before bringing the cake to her mouth once more.
From a distance, Brayan watched Ryan’s behavior. His eyes widening as he recalled the words they had exchanged less than an hour ago. About not chasing after women. About how they were a man’s downfall.
’What the hell is he already doing?!’ Brayan thought with an absurd reaction. ’He just took a beating because of one girl and he’s already running after a second!’
’It’s not my fault...’ Ryan thought, knowing full well what Brayan was thinking. ’It’s my job...’
