Chapter 72: Chapter 72
Finally, Henri’s assailant decided to slow to a stop, his hot breath causing goosebumps to rise on his skin.
"Don’t scream." A vaguely familiar voice roughly whispered beside his ear, tickling him slightly. "Nod if you understand."
Henri held his breath and then nodded, taking a deep breath when the hand was taken away. "Put me down, please." He said tightly, displeased with the way he was held up like a rag doll.
The Alpha scrambled to obey, gingerly putting him down on the ground.
Henri turned around, his eyes had adjusted to the darkness enough for him to instantly make out who it was. It explained why his voice was so familiar. It was bloody Rowe.
Why had he snatched him up? What could he possibly want?
"Your Highness, do you remember me? He asked, a hint of giddiness in his voice. He was hulking in the dark of the evening, had he always been that huge?
Henri was displeased by how he had been snatched up like property. "You have a hard face to forget." He said, covering the top part of his partially unbuttoned shirt with his hands in a bid to protect himself. freёweɓnovel.com
Rowe beamed at this, perhaps not understanding that it hadn’t been a compliment.
"It couldn’t have hurt to let me put on pants would it?"Henri murmured, more to himself. Out loud to Rowe, he said. "Why did you steal me?"
Rowe scratched his hair nervously. "I just wanted to talk."
Henri remembered the liquid fear that filled his veins when a hand clamped over his mouth and carried him away. "You should work on your communication skills." He muttered darkly, looking around.
It was starting to get even darker and he had no idea how far Rowe had taken him or where he was. He was trying to put on a brave front but he was chilly and a little anxious, had his group mates noticed yet that he had been taken?
How had Rowe even found him? Campsites weren’t exactly right next to each other, it meant that he had just wandered around till he got lucky.
He stared up suspiciously at the big Alpha crowding him against a tree. What could he possibly want to talk about? It couldn’t be the skirmish that happened on the first day of school, could it? That would spell trouble for Henri.
Instead of talking, Rowe spent the next moments staring intently at Henri, seeming to have lost his ability to speak.
Henri was then forced to fill in the silence. "How did you find me?" He asked, taking a small step back.
Rowe putting him down right in front of a tree was unfair, it made him unable to make a break for it. Not like it made much of a difference even if he was free to run, he had no idea where to go. He was also barefoot and Rowe was much faster than him so he would be caught right away.
Rowe scratched his neck. "Your scent." He said simply.
Henri’s mouth fell open, he felt betrayed, like he betrayed his own self.
"My campsite is on the other side of the lake and I was taking an evening walk, I caught a whiff of your scent and my body moved without thinking."
Henri grew more and more concerned the more Rowe went on. The lake was quite wide, what kind of evening walk had he been taking? And of course, his campsite turned out to be the one right beside Henri’s, what terrible luck.
"Could you take me back then?" He asked.
Rowe looked physically disturbed by this. "You... You don’t want to spend time with me?"
Henri was stunned silent for a few seconds, was the Alpha brain dead? He had just upped and grabbed Henri while he was getting dressed, why would he want to spend time with him?!
He swallowed down his retort though, it was probably unwise to upset Rowe when he was all alone so far out in the woods and unable to even make a run for it.
"I’d prefer to be fully dressed for that." He gritted out, wondering if Louis had become curious yet, and gone to check for him.
Although knowing Louis, he wouldn’t interrupt Henri’s bath until he absolutely had to. Henri would have to figure out a way out of this mess himself.
Rowe looked him over like he was just realizing Henri’s state of undress. "You look fine to me." He shrugged taking a step forward.
Henri backed up, cursing under his breath when he bumped into the tree trunk. He was starting to get anxious again, people could be quite dangerous when they wanted to be.
Rowe leaned forward to sniff his bare neck making Henri’s blood run cold, he was yet to see a negative side of being born an Omega but that was because his parents protected him all his life.
Suddenly, his cotton shirt that brushed against his upper thighs felt shorter. Vulnerability was a terrifying feeling.
It didn’t help that Rowe held his arms next, the size difference making Henri’s throat clog up.
He didn’t notice it until it happened, perhaps it was because he was petrified by what Rowe would do to him but one moment, the tip of Rowe’s nose was about to make contact with his cool skin, and in the next moment, warm liquid was splattering down one side of his body, staining his white cotton shirt and pale legs.
Henri couldn’t even scream, watching with wide eyes as Rowe was stabbed multiple times in the side by none other than Seton.
Had he angered some god by going into the lake after dark? Because what was this series of unfortunate events?
Rowe’s eyes were wide in confusion, blood dripping down the side of his mouth as he slowly went down.
Henri’s fingers were clasped so tightly together that they had gone white, frozen in place from shock.
Seton bent over to wipe his hand and bloody pocket knife on Rowe’s unconscious body before getting up.
Rowe didn’t seem to be dead but he was definitely bleeding out and would be dead soon if something wasn’t done. He had probably blacked out from the pain or perhaps was just too weak to get up.
