Chapter 167: Chapter 167

Claude glanced down at Henri who was peacefully sleeping in his arms, a soft breeze wafted past, pushing Henri’s hair onto his sleeping face. Claude reflexively reached out to brush the black locks away only to freeze with his hands hovering over the other’s face, he hesitated for a split second before going ahead to brush Henri’s hair away from his face. freёwebnoѵel.com

He pulled his hand back when the Prince made a soft sound at the back of his throat and moved his head from side to side. Claude was about to reach out to touch Henri’s hair again when a bright flash caught his attention.

He immediately glanced up in consternation only to visibly relax as he caught flashes of fireworks exploding in the sky in the distance, it would seem that help had finally come. Claude noted that the sky remained lit although the sparks should have fizzled out by then - they were going all out for this.

He rose to his feet still holding Henri, there was no reason to wake the sleeping Omega, he would just carry him back. He made sure to stomp out the fire first before starting back.

There was still a need to be on guard though because there was a slim chance that not all the attackers had been caught. The trip back was easy though, and in no time he came back to the familiar circular clearing that was their campsite.

Or more like what used to be their campsite because currently there were so many people swarming around, the tents had to be taken down to provide more space for the captured students and the staff that apprehended them.

As soon as he stepped into the lighted clearing, a handful of the guards brought drew out their swords cautiously but Audie was already running over. "Oi Claude! What the fuc..." He started to curse, only trailing off when he got a better look. "Oh, he’s fine." He cleared his throat to say in a much calmer voice, awkwardly patting the taller Alpha’s arm. "Uh... Good job."

Alois and Jacques were close behind him, "You look a little too good for someone ambushed." Alois muttered, expelling a harsh breath when he confirmed for himself that the crowned Prince was indeed fine and was only fast asleep.

"You should take tips from me, you look like shit," Claude said crassly, the side of his lips lifting up in a slight smirk. "Now shut the fuck up and go away, if you wake up Henri, I’m going to stomp your skulls in."

That was enough to get them to give the Alpha some distance, the Head Chancellor hurrying over. "I deeply apologize for the trouble you had to go through, Your Grace." He bowed deeply, wiping away sweat from his brows although it was a cool night.

Claude’s gaze hardened, "Save that for His Highness." He said in clipped tones, "Tell me what’s the situation with those captured."

Bolton glanced at the sleeping Prince held snugly by the young noble, "Perhaps you should lay the Prince to rest first befor-"

"Am I making any complaints, Sir Bolton?" Claude cut him off in a dry voice. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

Bolton nearly jumped out of his skin at this, "Certainly not, Your Grace... Now, regarding those captured, we caught about twenty-seven of them, some were in very critical conditions." He added nervously, sneaking glances at the young Alpha. "We tried questioning them but they all have their lips sealed, we did find one thing though and that is, they are all from the small neighboring country of Langen."

Claude frowned at this, "Langen? Why would they want to kill the Prince of Reinhold? We’re at peace with them."

The Head Chancellor looked just as troubled, "It is something I am yet to understand myself, however, I intend to take every student at the Academy who is from Langen into custody, and further deal with the matter from there after informing His Majesty, the King."

Claude walked off to where the other three were discussing around one of the many campfires set up. He was done speaking to the Head Chancellor and the rest of the formalities were none of his business, his job was to protect Henri and he had done just that.

Valentin could swear that he had just stopped to pull off a vine that had wrapped around his leg, then he looked up and Alexander was gone. He looked around frantically, wondering if his annoying roommate was just playing a prank on him but it was too deathly silent for that to be the case.

They had been walking through closely growing trees which meant that he could barely see the night sky right above him, much less see the fireworks that brightened the sky over their previous campsite.

"Alexander?" He called tentatively, taking a couple of cautious steps forward.

Now that he was all alone, he started to realize just how dark the woods was. It was odd because he had always been able to see Alexander clearly, now it felt like he couldn’t see his hands in front of him.

He knew that it was just his brain playing tricks on him but knowing what was wrong didn’t fix the problem. It didn’t help that Alexander just disappeared into thin air, it couldn’t be that the Alpha had fallen into a ditch, right?

After calling his roommate’s name a couple of times and getting no response, he decided to just keep moving, eventually, he would leave this patch of closely growing trees and he would be able to see the sky again. Besides, he wasn’t that bad with directions, he just made little mistakes a couple of time- "Ahh!"

Valentin’s scream carried through the small patch of trees, sending birds flying out of the treetops they had previously been perched on. He couldn’t believe it, he had fallen into a ditch himself.

It wasn’t that deep and he wasn’t injured but it had been so unexpected because he hadn’t seen it coming. Valentin remained in his fallen position for a few minutes trying to stop his heart from trying to jump through his chest when rustling sounds made him stiffen.

"Valentin?" A familiar voice called his name, and although Valentin had just had the shock of his life, he still found the time to roll his eyes.
