Chapter 103: Chapter 103

Cecil frowned slightly as they found somewhere to sit, he had never been good with balls but was oddly relaxed in the one for some reason.

He side-eyed Perry who had been staring blankly at him ever since they got into the ballroom. "Is there something on my face?"

Perry snapped out of it, hurriedly averting his face like he hadn’t planned to get caught. "Um, no, not at all." He quickly denied, suddenly very interested in the carving of the furniture.

Cecil scoffed, "You’re bad at lying. Leeson, what is it?" He turned to his other friend, curiosity burning in his brown eyes.

Granted, he had put less effort into dressing up for the ball but that was because he was starting to care less and less about meeting up with impossibly high standards that he had set up himself in a bid to feel equal to others who had been born into noble families or wealth.

But he was certain that he didn’t do anything drastic like smear soot on his face or the like, so just what was so fascinating about his features?

"I doubt you want an answer to that." Leeson said shortly, seeming amused by something.

This only served to irk Cecil even further. "So there is something on my face?" He prodded.

Leeson’s face was scrunched up and he looked to be fighting laughter. "Not quite."

Cecil’s expression darkened. "So which is it? Is there something there or not?"

Leeson just put his hand inside his overcoat and produced a small, hand-held mirror, giving it to Cecil while still looking very amused.

Perry, on the other hand, was still looking and everything possible in the ballroom except Cecil’s face, his own face a subtle pink shade.

Cecil snatched the mirror, glaring at the both of them before staring at himself in the mirror and immediately faltering, all of his irritation melting away. He thrust the mirror back at Leeson, his face bright red from getting flustered. "Why do you even have a mirror on you anyway?" He grumbled, crossing his arms.

Leeson wasn’t actually laughing at the telltale red marks littered all over Cecil’s neck, he was used to seeing them at that point, what he found funny was Perry finally realizing what they were, it took the dunce long enough.

After it went on for far too long, Cecil finally had enough of Leeson’s snickering. "Laugh if you want to, nobody wants to hear you sound like a dying horse." He scolded.

Leeson was actually about to do just that when he looked up and caught sight of someone approaching their table. "I will but I’ll do it way over there." He said bluntly, taking a mortified Perry with him.

Cceil was a little confused by this but he shrugged it off, muttering a ’good riddance’ under his breath when he could no longer hear his friend’s annoying sniggers.

Cecil was actually less bothered about his visible marks than he used to be, especially around the two idiots he was stuck with. Maybe it was because he was used to them seeing it.

"Miss me?" A familiar voice breathed into the shell of his ear, making Cecil bite away the smile that started to form.

"Sneaking up on people like that will get you killed." He said tartly, trying to look upset and failing.

Alois came around to settle on the chair that Perry had just vacated. "I’d die happy if it was by your hands."

"Don’t put ideas in my head."

After saying hello to Dodie and Fleur, Henri immediately looked around for a comfortable spot to sit at. There was really no supervision at the ball, there was no schedule either. It was simply hosted for the students from both colleges to eat, drink, dance, and unwind.

Drinking was used liberally, the adults still had to be responsible so the only drinks available were non-alcoholic drinks and greatly watered-down wine.

There was also a sitting area, multiple sitting areas actually, so he picked a spot with an ample view of the ballroom and settled down to watch people. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

His plans were immediately crushed when a tall Alpha stepped into his line of vision, blocking out most of the ballroom. He looked up with a slightly irritated expression to see that it was none other than Louis.

"Do you need some company? Or should I get you a drink?" Louis asked earnestly.

Henri was about to coldly chase him off but he was too soft on his friends to do that to any of them, Audie didn’t count. "Fine, if you want to, you can get me a drink but you don’t need to keep me company."

Louis beamed at this, immediately hurrying off to get him a drink.

Henri frowned as he watched him go, he couldn’t help but feel like something was off about Louis tonight. Firstly, Dio was nowhere to be found, which was a little frightening frankly because the dark-haired Alpha was literally his shadow.

He looked around a bit, doing a double take when he found Dio some distance away, talking to a duo of swooning Omegas. He glanced over to Louis who was pondering over the choices of drinks, he could maybe guess why his friend was acting so oddly.

Henri sighed, he had hoped to get some peace and quiet at the ball, seeing as he wasn’t required to do anything or participate in anything but it was looking like he would have to spend the rest of the night babysitting Louis.

"Thank you." He said nicely to Louis when he handed him the drink he requested, noticing something. "You didn’t get one for yourself?"

Louis glowed, "So you’ll let me keep you company?"

Henri immediately backtracked, "No... You’re easily one of the most popular students in our year, certainly, it should be easy for you to get yourself a drink and socialize a bit." He quickly added, feeling a little guilty at the way Louis’ expression fell at his rejection.
