Chapter 223: Chapter 139: Shocking Power, Blood Transaction

The faces of Zhuo Jie and his three companions turned grim as they saw their pursuer closing in.

"What do we do?" Jing Litting asked, her eyes fixed on Zhuo Jie.

Zhuo Jie’s expression shifted several times before he grit his teeth and said grimly, "Split up and run!"

The other three paled slightly at his words, but they knew it was the best option.

If they stayed together, they would all be wiped out.

Splitting up offered at least a glimmer of hope.

Who survived would come down to luck.

Without further hesitation, the four of them scattered.

Gu Lin took out a Gemstone to renew her Jumping Skill, her body shooting forward like the wind. Glancing back, she saw the blizzard of ice chasing after Zhuo Jie.

Seeing this, Gu Lin bit her lip. A flicker of sorrow crossed her eyes; she knew Zhuo Jie’s chances were slim to none.

But this was no time for grief. The enemy could be on her tail at any moment. She had to get back to Bai Bing City as fast as possible.

After a mad dash of fifty or sixty kilometers, her vision suddenly opened up. She was out of the forest.

Just as a wave of joy washed over Gu Lin, a sudden chill ran down her spine.

Without a second thought, she activated the Flash Magic Tattoo on her body and vanished from the spot.

BAM!

Countless Ice Crystal spikes pierced the ground where she had stood. A cold mist billowed out, coating the earth in a layer of solid ice.

"Oh?"

A soft sound of surprise escaped him. The Winter Frost Priest squinted at Gu Lin, who had reappeared dozens of meters away, a sneer spreading across his face.

"Quick reflexes."

Gu Lin stared at him, her face pale and her thoughts in turmoil.

’He caught up so fast!’

’What happened to Zhuo Jie and the others?’

As if sensing her bewildered horror, the Winter Frost Priest said in a frigid tone, "No need to wonder. I’ve already dealt with your three companions. Now, I’ll send you to join them."

Although she had expected it, hearing that Zhuo Jie and the other two were dead filled Gu Lin with grief and fury. She glared at her enemy, grinding her teeth as seven or eight Gemstones appeared in her palm.

’Even if I’m no match for him, I won’t just stand here and die!’

The Winter Frost Priest watched her with a cold, mocking glint in his eyes.

’Just a Wizard Apprentice, and she dares to fight back? She’s got some nerve.’

He slowly raised his palm, preparing to kill the audacious Wizard Apprentice.

But just then, a melodious voice suddenly sounded in their ears.

"Pardon the interruption."

The instant the voice spoke, the Winter Frost Priest shot backward. Crystalline light flared around him, instantly condensing into more than a dozen ice shields that formed an airtight defense.

Only then did he turn to face the source of the voice, his expression that of one facing a formidable foe.

It was a woman!

A beautiful woman in a black evening gown!

The Winter Frost Priest’s expression was filled with wariness and alarm.

He hadn’t sensed her presence at all until the moment she spoke.

’If she’d meant him harm,’ he thought, ’at this distance, I wouldn’t have even had time to react.’

At the thought, a fine layer of cold sweat broke out on the Winter Frost Priest’s back.

"It’s you!"

Gu Lin, however, looked pleasantly surprised.

Who else could it be but the Vampire Wizard who had appeared so suddenly!

"We meet again." The woman gave Gu Lin a gentle nod.

Seeing this, the Winter Frost Priest’s heart sank.

"Who might you be? Why are you interfering in our affairs?" the Winter Frost Priest asked gravely.

The woman glanced at him and said with a smile, "I have no interest in interfering in the war between the Chenxi and Red Lotus Twin Cities and the Winter Frost Sect Country. However, it’s not every day I come across a girl with such delectable blood. I can’t very well stand by and watch her die."

Gu Lin didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She’d never imagined she’d one day be saved because someone found her blood "delectable."

The Winter Frost Priest’s face darkened. "So you’re insisting on getting involved?"

"You could say that," the woman said softly.

The Winter Frost Priest was about to say more, but the woman gave him a deep, mysterious look.

In that instant, it was as if he’d been struck by lightning. His entire body trembled as if electrocuted, his face turned deathly white, and crimson blood began to trickle from his eyes, nose, mouth, and ears.

Once he caught his breath, the Winter Frost Priest looked at the woman as if he were seeing the devil himself. Not daring to utter another word, he turned and fled without hesitation.

By the time Gu Lin came to her senses, the Winter Frost Priest’s figure had already vanished into the woods.

She grew frantic and turned to the woman. "Why did you let him get away? He killed my companions!"

The woman gave her a strange look and said calmly, "They were your companions, not mine. I have no grudge against him, so why should I kill him?"

Gu Lin stood frozen, rendered speechless.

’Aren’t vampires supposed to be cruel and cold-hearted?’

’Why is this one so scrupulous about her grievances?’

"You seem to be thinking something quite rude," the woman said. "But never mind. I’m in a good mood, so I’ll let it slide."

"Speaking of which, since I just saved your life, shouldn’t you repay me somehow?"

Gu Lin took a deep breath, quickly regaining her composure.

’She’s right, the woman has no obligation to avenge my friends. And she did save my life.’

"What do you want as repayment?"

"Your blood, of course."

Gu Lin had expected as much. "Fine," she said without hesitation. "Take it yourself."

"On that note," she added, "if my blood is the payment, would that be enough to get you to kill that Winter Frost Priest?"

The woman’s expression turned meaningful. She smiled and nodded. "Of course."

"Then I’ll make that trade with you!"

The woman smiled, then extended a slender, pale index finger, pointing far into the distance in the direction the Winter Frost Priest had fled.
