Chapter 218: Chapter 136: Bloodline Activation Technique, Improved Bloodline Mark
Pei Ze walked over to the Battlefield Heather and reverted it to its seed form.
Having lost its combat strength, the Battlefield Heather didn’t put up much of a fight and was obediently taken back.
Just then, the Fog Crow that had gone out to find the others returned, carrying the unconscious Su Ya and Peng Yan. The three-headed giant eagle was with them.
Pei Ze frowned and went to examine them. Seeing that both the people and the giant eagle had only been hit with a Sleep Technique, his brow relaxed, and he woke the two of them.
"S-Sir?"
Su Ya groggily opened her eyes and stared blankly at Pei Ze. It took several seconds for her to react, at which point she shot to her feet and scanned her surroundings as if facing a great enemy, only to be stunned to find their foes already dead on the ground.
And there wasn’t just one; there was an additional headless corpse.
"Sir, who is this?" Su Ya asked, completely bewildered.
Pei Ze waved his hand dismissively, offering no explanation. Instead, he tossed each of them a Space Ring.
The Space Rings had belonged to Pei Zhanqing and Pei Yonggao; he had already transferred all of their contents into his own ring.
"These are Space Rings. Transfer the contents of your dimensional bags into them, then give the bags to me. I have a use for them."
Su Ya and Peng Yan were stunned for a moment before they understood, then they did as he said without hesitation.
Trading a dimensional bag for a Space Ring was such a great deal that they would have accepted even if it hadn’t been an order from Pei Ze.
Taking the dimensional bags, Pei Ze placed each of the two corpses into a separate bag.
It wasn’t that he was a neat freak. Pei Yonggao had been possessed by a foul entity, and his body was tainted with its residual negative energy and malice, turning the corpse into a source of infection. If it contaminated his other belongings, it would be too late for regrets.
Although Pei Zhanqing’s body showed no abnormalities, it was better to be safe than sorry. Storing it separately in a dimensional bag was the prudent choice.
After dealing with the corpses, Pei Ze looked at the lingering negative energy and malice in the air and rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
The corruption from a foul entity is permanent. If left untreated, the residual negative energy and malice wouldn’t dissipate over time.
On the contrary, anyone passing through here could easily be possessed by the malice, potentially creating a new foul entity by accident.
’After all, this happened because of me...’
Pei Ze sighed, told Su Ya and Peng Yan to move further away, and prepared to cleanse the area of the negative energy and malice.
The best method of cleansing was naturally to use positive energy to neutralize the negative.
And as it happened, he knew a positive energy-type Magic—Plant Spirit Light.
Mobilizing what little Spiritual Power he had left, Pei Ze released dozens of Plant Spirit Lights in one breath, finally cleansing the area of the residual negative energy and malice.
Seeing that Pei Ze was finished, Su Ya approached and asked, "Sir, what’s our next move?"
"Back to Red Maple City," Pei Ze replied without hesitation.
His combat strength was less than a tenth of what it had been. Attacking a fortified position in this state would be suicide.
It was better to go back, rest for a few days, and replenish his magic tattoos before resuming the mission.
And so, the group set off to return to Red Maple City.
They had just set out in the morning, only to return before noon.
The Wizard on duty at the city gate gave Pei Ze and his companions a puzzled glance.
Pei Ze ignored him and walked straight into the city.
Back at the stone house, Pei Ze wrote a letter, summoned Peng Yan, and handed it to him.
"I need you to return to Chenxi City. Deliver this letter to the High Tower Academy and give it to my teacher, Lord Mo Weng."
Peng Yan didn’t ask why. He simply accepted the task and turned to leave.
Only then did Pei Ze return to the bedroom of the stone house, sit down, and begin his Meditation.
He meditated until late at night.
Having recovered more than half of his Spiritual Power, Pei Ze opened his eyes, let out a long breath, and took out the Space Ring to start inventorying his spoils.
This part always put him in a better mood.
And the results did not disappoint.
Between Pei Zhanqing and Pei Yonggao, there were over ten thousand Magic Stone Coins alone.
If the various materials were included, the total value would easily exceed thirty thousand Magic Stone Coins.
The bulk of it came from Pei Zhanqing.
In addition, Pei Zhanqing’s Space Ring also contained three Faith Crystals.
This was undoubtedly a massive surprise.
’As expected of a Second-level Wizard. He was loaded.’
Pei Ze was overjoyed. With these three Faith Crystals, he now had all the resources he needed to break through to the liquefaction stage.
He would be able to make the breakthrough within a few days.
As for witchcraft artifacts, besides the Burning Flame Robe, each of their Space Rings also contained a Tier One Witchcraft Artifact.
Unfortunately, after inspecting them with an appraisal technique, Pei Ze found that neither of the two artifacts was of any use to him.
’I’ll just sell them for Magic Stone Coins later.’
To Pei Ze’s disappointment, he couldn’t find any information related to the Bloodline Activation Technique in either Pei Zhanqing’s or Pei Yonggao’s Space Rings.
’Right. Why would they carry such important, core knowledge around with them?’
Pei Ze sighed in disappointment.
But the next second, inspiration struck. He had an idea.
Acting on his idea, Pei Ze immediately left the stone house and headed to the exchange to rent a laboratory.
Inside the laboratory, Pei Ze set up an isolation Array and then took out Pei Zhanqing’s corpse.
He inspected it carefully, making sure Pei Zhanqing’s body wasn’t tainted with any negative energy or malice. Only then did he dispel the Array and begin to dissect the corpse.
He rarely performed experiments or dissections himself, as he usually relied on the Eye of Omniscience for analysis and detection. However, the necessary knowledge was already stored in his mind, so putting it into practice wasn’t difficult.
With the guidance of the Eye of Omniscience, Pei Ze quickly moved past the initial awkwardness and became adept.
More than two hours later, he set down the test tube filled with blood and issued a new command.
"Omniscience, deduce the Bloodline Activation Technique of the Yugro Giant Serpent based on this experimental data."
[Task created. Beginning deduction of the Yugro Giant Serpent’s Bloodline Activation Technique. Estimated energy required: 167.2]
Pei Ze nodded to himself. ’Just as I thought. With a corpse and blood sample on hand, the deduction won’t be too difficult.’
Returning to the task at hand, he cleaned up the lab bench and then took out two Memory Crystal Balls.
These had also been found in Pei Zhanqing’s Space Ring, each recording a different Secret Technique.
One was a Secret Technique for creating Bloodline Marks.
A Bloodline Mark was an imprint containing the power of an ancient bloodline creature.
Generally, individuals from Bloodline Clans could only awaken the ancient creature bloodline within them after they advanced to the rank of Wizard, at which point their Spirit and constitution would undergo a fundamental sublimation.
During the apprentice stage, however, most people could not utilize their innate ancient creature bloodline, with the exception of a few rare geniuses who could partially awaken it.
To circumvent this limitation, certain Wizards created Bloodline Marks.
A Wizard who inherited a specific ancient creature’s bloodline could, at a certain cost, bestow a Bloodline Mark upon a Wizard Apprentice.
By activating the Bloodline Mark, a Wizard Apprentice could temporarily wield the power of that bloodline, drastically increasing their strength.
It was just like with Meng Wei, whom Pei Ze had encountered during his trial.
When they fought, Meng Wei had activated the Bloodline Mark on his body, transforming into a Silver Frost Disaster Wolf and causing his power to skyrocket.
If he hadn’t run into Pei Ze, no other Wizard Apprentice in the trial would have been a match for Meng Wei, thanks to his Bloodline Mark.
’Bloodline Marks, huh...’
A glint appeared in Pei Ze’s eyes.
Every Bloodline Clan had its own exclusive Secret Technique for creating Bloodline Marks.
A Wizard who didn’t inherit the corresponding ancient creature’s bloodline couldn’t create or use the marks, even if they had the Secret Technique.
But he was different.
The Eye of Omniscience meant anything was possible.
"Omniscience, modify the Secret Technique for Bloodline Marks."
[Please specify modification parameters.]
"Remove the restriction preventing creation and use by non-bloodline members. Also, increase the power of the Bloodline Mark."
[Task created. Beginning modification of the Secret Technique for Bloodline Marks. Estimated energy required: 389.2]
Pei Ze smiled faintly and turned his attention to the second Memory Crystal Ball.
This Memory Crystal Ball recorded a technique for strengthening one’s body by extracting the bloodlines of serpentine Magical Creatures.
It focused on two main areas of enhancement.
One was physical constitution.
The other was affinity for the Power of Shadow.
The first was easy enough to understand. The second was likely meant to complement the Yugro Giant Serpent bloodline.
After all, the Yugro Giant Serpent was an ancient creature that wielded the Power of Shadow.
’If I modify this technique, it should also be able to boost my own strength.’
Pei Ze mused to himself.
However, all three of his task slots were currently full, so he could only set the matter aside for now and handle it later when he had an opening.
Overall, while the experience had been perilous, the rewards were equally immense.
The huge sum of Magic Stone Coins, the priceless materials, and the Burning Flame Robe were one thing, but what truly delighted Pei Ze were the three new branches of knowledge he had acquired.
To him, that knowledge was the true treasure.
If used well, any one of them could significantly enhance his power.
It was clear that his power was about to undergo a tremendous leap in the near future.
