Chapter 214: Chapter 134: Who the Hell is the Monster Here?
And yet, Pei Ze had not only endured it but had also recovered in time to dodge. This truly shocked him.
"Let’s see how many times you can dodge!" A sinister expression crossed his face.
Pei Ze’s expression had turned incredibly grave.
The Fell Creature’s power was even greater than he had anticipated.
The dual protection of over fifty layers of Mage Armor and a Soul Guard Potion had nearly failed to block its attack.
’No wonder the Star Realm Alliance lists this thing as an extremely dangerous creature.’
A chill ran down Pei Ze’s spine. He dared not hold back any longer. With a mere thought, the silver star in his hand instantly melted into a liquid metal, which then seeped into his pores and vanished.
A brilliant silver sheen rapidly spread from his palm across his entire body.
In the blink of an eye, Pei Ze’s body was shimmering with a silvery light.
At the same time, one Earth Rune after another materialized out of thin air and swiftly merged into his body.
And that was just the beginning. Lights then flared up on both of his legs and his left arm.
His three Magic tattoos—Protection, Convergence, and Giant—all activated at once.
Then, auras from various other kinds of Magic began to flash around him.
Resist Energy (Negative), Toughness Technique, Barbaric Strength Technique, Light Spirit Technique, Mage Armor, Mage Armor, Mage Armor...
By the time the Fell Creature lunged at him again, Pei Ze had already cast nearly every protective and enhancement spell he could. The swirling auras of Magic almost completely obscured his form.
The Fell Creature shrieked as it passed through Pei Ze’s body.
This time, however, Pei Ze only stiffened for a moment before recovering. He immediately threw a backhand punch, striking the Fell Creature’s body.
A violent burst of lightning erupted, dispelling a large portion of the black mist surrounding the creature.
The Fell Creature let out a piercing shriek and instinctively pulled away.
"How is that possible?!"
Pei Yonggao stared blankly at the scene, his face a mask of utter disbelief.
’The Fell Creature’s attack had no effect on Pei Ze?’
’What in the world is going on?’
"I refuse to believe I can’t deal with you!"
Pei Ze sneered and pursued the Fell Creature. He unleashed a flurry of punches, each one erupting with lightning. He battered the creature until it howled in agony, the black mist around it visibly diminishing.
Driven by its survival instinct, it scrambled to create distance, not daring to approach the terrifying human again.
The Fell Creature was formless and incorporeal. It could change its shape at will, fly, and was extremely fast. As long as it focused on evasion, Pei Ze wouldn’t be able to catch it without activating a Gale Rune.
Seeing this, Pei Ze snorted. Without a second thought, he turned and charged toward Pei Yonggao.
The color drained from Pei Yonggao’s face in horror.
He was channeling all his power to sustain the Fell Creature. He had virtually no fighting strength left. How could he possibly defend against Pei Ze, who even the Fell Creature couldn’t defeat?
In his terror, his only choice was to immediately recall the Fell Creature.
This newly born Fell Creature existed in a state of symbiotic fusion with Pei Yonggao; at this stage, it had to rely on him to survive.
Therefore, Pei Yonggao had a certain degree of control over it.
For example, he could command it to attack a specific target.
Or, when his life was in danger, he could summon it back to his side.
In a flash of black light, the Fell Creature appeared in front of Pei Yonggao, its misty, illusory body intercepting Pei Ze’s fist.
BOOM!
Lightning erupted, and the black mist around the Fell Creature thinned once more.
Pei Ze didn’t pause for a second, continuing his frenzied barrage of punches.
’To be honest, this Fell Creature’s strength is astonishing.’
’In my current state, the power of each of my attacks is already approaching that of a Second-level Wizard.’
’Those First-Class Priests couldn’t even withstand a single punch from me before.’
Yet this Fell Creature had taken dozens of his hits head-on, and the only price it paid was losing about half of the black mist surrounding it.
From the looks of it, it could easily endure dozens more.
It was terrifyingly strong!
’And this is just a Fell Creature in its initial form. How horrifying would a mature one be, one that has absorbed sufficient life force?’
Pei Ze steeled his resolve. He had to kill Pei Yonggao today. He absolutely could not give him the chance to nurture this Fell Creature to maturity.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Deafening peals of thunder echoed across the plains.
Under Pei Yonggao’s control, the Fell Creature was unable to flee and could only endure Pei Ze’s ferocious assault head-on.
In just a few short minutes, the black mist around it had grown so thin it was nearly transparent, revealing its true form: a humanoid aberration composed of countless twisted souls.
Pei Yonggao cowered behind the Fell Creature, his face deathly pale.
He could have never imagined that even the Fell Creature would be no match for Pei Ze!
’Who the fuck is the real monster here?!’
Drenched in a cold sweat, Pei Yonggao had lost all of his earlier confidence. His heart was filled with immense regret.
’If I had known Pei Ze was this powerful, I would have nurtured the Fell Creature for longer, even at the risk of a backlash, before coming to get my revenge.’
But it was too late for regrets now.
As he watched the black mist around the Fell Creature dissipate completely, and its exposed true form begin to turn even more ethereal, a wave of despair washed over Pei Yonggao.
But just then, Pei Ze suddenly disengaged and rapidly retreated.
Pei Yonggao froze. When he came to his senses, he realized someone had appeared beside him.
After getting a clear look at the newcomer, an expression of delighted surprise appeared on Pei Yonggao’s face.
"Zhan Qing!"
Pei Zhanqing gave Pei Yonggao a dark look, then suddenly raised his hand. A wisp of gray mist shot instantly toward him.
Having been almost completely drained of power by the Fell Creature, Pei Yonggao was at his weakest. He also never expected Pei Zhanqing to attack him. Caught completely off guard, he was struck and collapsed to the ground. He felt a vast emptiness deep in his mind, the connection to his Spirit Crystal completely severed.
The Fell Creature shrieked as it involuntarily drifted toward Pei Zhanqing, who captured it within a Crystal Ball.
"Zhan Qing, what are you doing?" Pei Yonggao cried out, a mixture of shock and fury in his voice.
"Don’t blame me," Pei Zhanqing said, his expression flat. "If you must blame someone, blame yourself for being too weak."
"Out of consideration for our long friendship, I agreed to give you a Fell Creature. The plan was, if you had killed Pei Ze, I would have retrieved the creature and cleaned up the evidence. No one would have ever known a Fell Creature was involved; they would have all thought Pei Ze had simply died at your hands."
"But you were a bitter disappointment!"
"In the end, I had to come out and clean up this mess myself. And now, you’ve introduced so many unnecessary complications!"
Pei Yonggao was speechless. He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
He couldn’t very well say that Pei Ze was abnormally strong and that he’d had no way of predicting it.
Pei Zhanqing ignored him and turned to Pei Ze. "I must admit, your talent is truly exceptional," he said lightly. "To already possess power approaching that of a Second-level Wizard at your age... your future accomplishments will likely far exceed my imagination. No wonder both the Gu Family and the Yin Family value you so highly."
"If I had a choice, I really wouldn’t want to make a move against you. After all, if those fanatics from the elemental factions get involved, even I would have a hard time."
"And?" Pei Ze stared at him, his expression impassive. "After all that talk, it still comes down to a fight."
From the moment Pei Zhanqing had appeared, the alarm bells in Pei Ze’s mind had not stopped ringing.
His intuition screamed that the man before him was an extremely dangerous entity.
And the reading from his Eye of Omniscience confirmed it—a detection cost of a full 17.3 energy levels.
’Without a doubt, this man is a Second-level Wizard!’
’This is the most powerful enemy I’ve ever encountered!’
Facing an enemy of this caliber, Pei Ze didn’t dare to act rashly. He used their conversation as a cover to frantically stack more layers of Mage Armor on himself.
"It can’t be helped. The existence of the Fell Creature must not be revealed. So, I’m afraid I’ll have to ask you to die."
"Your two followers will make excellent witnesses. With their testimony, the Gu and Yin Families shouldn’t suspect me. I’ll just push Pei Yonggao out as the scapegoat, pay a small price, and this whole incident can probably be smoothed over."
"It’s not a perfect plan, but it’s the best I can do under the circumstances."
"That’s enough talk. Your Magic should be ready by now. So, go and die."
The instant his last word fell, the void behind Pei Zhanqing twisted. A dozen rifts tore open, and from them, more than ten pitch-black tentacles, each as thick as a bucket, shot out. They ripped through the air with a deafening whistle as they lashed viciously toward Pei Ze.
