Chapter 197: Chapter 127: Spiritual Erosion, The Refining Principle of Faith Crystals

The moment he saw Fei Rui die, Salon’s mind buzzed, and a frigid chill shot through him as if he had been plunged into an ice cave. His limbs went cold.

The other Turin Warriors also turned deathly pale.

The Second-Class Priest, who had been so high and mighty, so incomparably powerful in their eyes, now lay on the ground as a cold corpse.

The scene felt so surreal it was like a dream.

A nightmare, to be precise.

However, the piercing caws that suddenly erupted from all around them were an unmistakable reminder that this was reality.

Deafening sound waves swept in from all directions.

Without Fei Rui’s protection, the chariot could no longer withstand the sonic assault. Its defenses were instantly shredded, and many of the Turin Warriors exploded into clouds of blood mist.

Salon’s face twisted as he resisted the corrosive sound waves, swinging his greatsword to cut down a few approaching Fog Crows. He turned to flee.

But in the next instant, a black shadow shot forward like lightning. A pair of sharp, gleaming claws struck his back.

The icy Power of Death instantly annihilated the Elemental Power on Salon’s body. The claws ripped through flesh and sank deep inside before being violently withdrawn, pulling out warm blood and a still-beating heart.

Salon’s body froze. He glanced back, his face a mask of unwillingness, before slowly collapsing to the ground in despair.

THUD!

Wuyu released the heart, letting it fall to the ground, and let out a sharp cry.

The countless Fog Crows flew in from all directions, transforming into wisps of black mist that flowed into its body like a tide.

In the blink of an eye, the thousands of Fog Crows had vanished without a trace.

The sky cleared once more.

The Fog Crow flapped its wings, flew back to Pei Ze’s side, and landed on his shoulder.

"Good work."

Pei Ze smiled and patted Wuyu’s head.

Su Ya and Peng Yan stared blankly at the scene, only snapping out of it after a long moment.

They exchanged a look, their hearts filled with amazement.

This battle had once again redefined their understanding of Pei Ze’s power.

’A force consisting of a Second-Class Priest and nearly a hundred Turin Warriors had been annihilated by Pei Ze as if they were nothing. Even a Level 1 Liquidation Wizard couldn’t necessarily do that, could they?’

The two of them were utterly shaken.

It wasn’t until a cry from Wuyu startled them that they hurried to clean up the battlefield.

The spoils this time were much more abundant.

Both the Winter Frost Priest and the other Tier Two Legendary Knight had Spatial Items on them.

The Spatial Items of the Turin People were different from those in the Wizard World; they were mostly in the form of badges.

Inside their two Space Badges, aside from a considerable number of Gold Coins and Gemstones, there were also a large amount of materials.

"A pity there’s no Sacred Spirit Bud."

Pei Ze was slightly disappointed, then looked at the badge in his hand.

This silver badge was only the size of a coin. It was incredibly cold to the touch, like holding a block of ice.

Moreover, from the badge, Pei Ze sensed the same strange energy he had felt from the statue of Lady Frost.

’This must be what the Winter Frost Sect calls a Sacred Artifact.’

After a moment’s hesitation, Pei Ze sent a wisp of his Spiritual Power, carefully probing into the badge.

The instant his Spiritual Power touched the badge, his mind buzzed. In a daze, a series of images flashed before his eyes like fleeting glimpses of light.

In a magnificent, spacious hall, a majestic and imposing statue of a Divine Spirit stood on a high platform. Below it, countless believers knelt on the ground, their expressions devout and fanatical.

It was as if countless whispers and praises echoed in his ears, constantly recounting the greatness and omnipotence of the Divine Spirit, speaking of divine grace and the salvation of the world, irresistibly compelling one to worship.

Fortunately, while the voices were strange, they weren’t enough to delude Pei Ze. He quickly broke free from the vision, his gaze swiftly returning to clarity.

’There’s no mistake. This energy must be the Power of Faith from a Divine Plane.’

Pei Ze clicked his tongue in wonder.

To those who were already Divine Believers, this Power of Faith was not only harmless but could even be a source of strength for them to wield.

But to outsiders, the Power of Faith was no different from poison.

Even more dangerous than poison.

If a Wizard Apprentice had experienced that vision just now, their Spirit would have likely been corrupted in an instant, turning them into a fanatical believer of Lady Frost.

The thought of being forcibly turned into a fanatical believer of some Divine Spirit made Pei Ze’s skin crawl.

’But then again, if the Power of Faith in the statues of Divine Spirits and Sacred Artifacts has this effect, wouldn’t the corrosive effect on the Spirit be even stronger for Faith Crystals, which are refined and condensed from them?’

Pei Ze wore a pensive expression.

’If I resist the corrosion of the Power of Faith for an extended period, could it have the effect of tempering my Spiritual Power?’

’Perhaps the ability of Faith Crystals to temper Spiritual Power is based on this very principle.’

Pei Ze felt he had guessed the correct principle.

Shaking his head, he put the badge away and thought no more of it.

The main task at this stage was still to increase his Spiritual Power. As for tempering it, that could wait until his Spirit reached a level of 32.

After climbing onto the back of the giant eagle, the three of them continued on their journey.

Along the way, Pei Ze took action again, destroying an outpost and three Bronze War Chariots that had arrived after receiving a distress call.

This time, however, they didn’t encounter an Official Priest. The reinforcements only included a single Tier Two Legendary Knight, whom Pei Ze had Silver Star kill instantly.

Perhaps because all the nearby patrol chariots had been cleared out, the rest of the journey was peaceful, and they didn’t encounter a single battle.

As they drew closer to their destination, the landscape of the plains gradually began to change.
