Chapter 189: Chapter 123: Faith Crystal, the Strong-Get-Stronger Plane Battlefield

Jiang Rui quickly caught on and scoffed.

"They were too weak to defeat Chenxi City, so now they’re taking their anger out on Pei Ze. That’s about as much class as you can expect from them."

Colin said with a serious expression, "You need to be careful. The people from Red Lotus City wouldn’t dare do anything to you openly, but they’ll definitely try to cause trouble for you if they get the chance."

"I will," Pei Ze replied with a calm expression.

He knew just how dissatisfied the Wizards from Red Lotus City were with him, so of course he wouldn’t let his guard down.

After chatting a bit longer, Colin and Jiang Rui said their goodbyes and left to prepare for their mission.

Pei Ze, meanwhile, planned to find a place to stay.

Just before they parted, Colin gave Pei Ze a Memory Crystal Ball.

"This contains the intelligence I’ve recorded about the Turin Plane, as well as some things to keep in mind when undertaking missions. It might be of some help to you."

"Thank you." Pei Ze’s eyes lit up as he accepted the Crystal Ball.

For someone like him, who was in desperate need of information about the Plane Battlefield, this was a godsend.

In the spirit of reciprocity, Pei Ze also gave Colin a bottle of resonance potion.

"A token of my thanks."

Colin caught it instinctively. He was overjoyed when he saw it was a resonance potion.

"In that case, I won’t be shy." He accepted it with delight.

Jiang Rui, who was standing to the side, was instantly filled with regret. ’If I’d known Pei Ze was so generous, I would have given him the intel before Colin did!’

After bidding the two farewell, Pei Ze left the exchange with Su Ya and Peng Yan.

There were stone houses for rent near the exchange. Pei Ze quickly found a suitable place and, with a grand gesture, rented three houses on the same stone cliff, paying half a year’s rent upfront.

"Get a good rest today. Tomorrow, we’re going to the mission hall," Pei Ze said, turning to Su Ya and Peng Yan.

They both immediately responded in the affirmative.

Pei Ze pushed open the door and walked into the stone house.

Inside was a beautifully decorated living room with a pale yellow color scheme. Doors to eight different rooms lined the walls, giving it the feel of a suite in a noble’s castle.

A gray-white rug covered the floor, and the walls were embedded with a few cheap fluorescent crystals, casting a soft, elegant yellow glow that illuminated the entire stone house.

Furniture, a sofa, and chairs—everything was provided.

Other than feeling a bit enclosed, it was perfect.

"Not bad."

Pei Ze nodded in satisfaction.

’Strictly speaking, this place isn’t worth fifteen Magic Stone Coins a month,’ he thought, ’but considering it’s a War Fortress on a different plane, it’s acceptable.’

Pei Ze took out the Fairy House and let Xiaoyi out for some fresh air.

He let the little one wander about on its own while he sat on the living room sofa, took out the Crystal Ball from Colin, and began to browse the information within.

The first section was about the Turin Plane.

According to the classification system for Divine Planes, the Turin Plane was considered a middle-tier plane with multiple deities.

This plane was currently known to host three Middle-tier Deities: the Lord of Thunder, who commanded the divine authority over Thunderbolts; the Storm Singer, who commanded the divine authority over Storms; and Lady Frost, who commanded the divine authority over Frost and Winter.

Based on the worship of these three Divine Spirits, the Turin People established three great human nations: the Thunder Sect Country, the Storm Sect Country, and the Winter Frost Sect Country.

Red Maple City was one of two major War Fortresses located within the territory of the Winter Frost Sect Country.

The other was Bai Bing City, located to the south.

By leveraging a surprise invasion in the initial phase, the combined forces of Chenxi City and Red Lotus City had conquered a significant amount of territory.

By the time the Winter Frost Sect Country reacted and the northern nobles formed a coalition army at the behest of the sect and two Grand Dukes, the Wizard army had already established a firm foothold on the Turin Plane.

After several consecutive major battles, the Turin People failed to gain any advantage. They could only fall into a stalemate with the Wizard army, halting its campaign of conquest.

Now, both sides were accumulating their strength, preparing for the next major battle.

However, while a full-scale war had yet to erupt, small-scale skirmishes never ceased.

In the buffer zone between the two armies—a stretch of wilderness more than eight hundred kilometers deep—countless battles erupted daily.

These included clearing out Scouts, eliminating outposts, capturing or destroying fortifications, seizing resource points, and even infiltrating enemy lines to destroy supply depots.

Beneath the surface-level peace, the clashes between the two sides never stopped.

Many of these engagements were handled by Free Mages, which was also their primary means of earning merit points.

Reading this, Pei Ze understood.

’In short, Free Mages are basically elite special forces or commando units,’ he mused. ’They take on missions like capturing or destroying critical installations behind enemy lines to relieve pressure on the main army.’

’That’s good. I won’t have to participate in the main war.’

Pei Ze nodded to himself.

On a constantly shifting battlefield, the power of an individual is greatly diminished.

Unless one possesses the strength to single-handedly fight an entire army, an individual’s power has a very limited impact against an organized Magic Legion.

The slightest carelessness could lead to grave danger, or even death.

Even Wizards aren’t immune to this.

But if it was just skirmishing on the periphery, it shouldn’t be too dangerous.

Pei Ze collected his thoughts and continued reading.

Before long, he had finished reading the information on the Turin Plane. The next section contained intelligence about Red Maple City.

Red Maple City’s current commanders were Councillor Ji Zhang and Councillor Xu Bao.

The latter was a Councillor from the Red Lotus Council of Red Lotus City.

In addition, four main legions and two Golem Legions were stationed in Red Maple City, along with hundreds of motley legions composed of other races and Slave Soldier Legions.
