Chapter 2044: Back to Metteo Town

Althea had to ponder on this for a bit longer and discuss it with her husband and her other confidantes.

From what she knew, the crystal would only need to be present when creating the potion for the children. It was like a necessary source of energy. It would remain an independent item after that, so the question would be what to do with it afterward.

She could tell that there would be plenty of advantages, but it would be those exact advantages that could turn this into a tragedy.

Treasure attracts blessings and evil.

She shook her head and put this issue aside, for now. She gathered the earth energy around her and shot up her body, emerging from under the soil.

Althea immediately found herself embraced by her husband, his face buried on her shoulder as he shivered. She sighed, patted his back, and politely nodded her head to the other two.

The other two also heaved breaths of relief, approaching them. They kept the distance at one meter. "How was it?" Medusa asked.

"I got it," she said. "Mission complete."

It was then that Garan raised his head, eyebrows furrowed before he leaned down to meet her lips. Althea smiled and wrapped her arms around him, accepting his onslaught and not caring about their audience. The other two could only look away and do their own thing. freёweɓnovel.com

When the couple’s PDA was temporarily finished, they prepared to head home. The next areas were in different parts of the world, and it was fine for them to head back to Alterra.

They had been gone for a month, and they missed their children too much. They also needed to send the samples for study and replenish their stock. Hopefully, in the past month, their Intelligence Team had gathered more information about the next target locations.

...

They cleared a few more Undead to let out excess anxiety before heading out. Sinnan and Medusa would be coming with them to Metteo, so they could rest there before heading back to Dune Town.

The small group only rested once outside the walls (in the Cave they camped in before entering) and then headed straight to Metteo without rest. It took them about another two days to reach the vicinity of the town.

They could already feel they were being watched upon their arrival, but easily ignored them.

They were too tired to bother with anything else. Fortunately, they were trying to gain their favor or get them to their side so they wouldn’t make trouble with them just yet.

They went to the inn to get rooms booked, but Althea stopped them when they were supposed to book three rooms.

"We can’t have anyone alone tonight," she said, just in case.

They understood this, but how to divide the rooms? Medusa and Sinnan were not in a relationship.

They were ambiguous, yes, but it wasn’t official. Althea only remembered it now, so she volunteered. "Then Medusa and I—"

Garan immediately reacted and pulled her to his chest. She raised her head and looked at his eyes. Her eyes twitched when she saw his expression. He looked like he’d been wronged.

She almost chuckled. Such a big guy, what’s he doing acting like a baby?

Garan then looked at Sinnan, who flinched. "I...I can stay in the room with Medusa," he said, voice rough. "I have mats so I can sleep on the floor without a problem."

Althea worried that if they encountered trouble here, the enemies might make trouble for the other two as well. So she advised them to leave at an unexpected time the next day.

They already said their goodbyes before heading to bed, with Althea handing each of them a few of aether crystals and undead nucleus.

The couple went to eat their meals, with Garan cooking using their portable stove and Alterran raw materials. Today, they were eating simple noodles with a lot of add-ons like extra vegetables, sausages, and so on.

Althea also took out a small jar of pickles she had in her space.

They got cleaned up (together, of course), and before Garan could bring her to bed, Althea escaped his arms and summoned a clean mat to sit on.

She then took out a handful of the many aether crystals she managed to get. These were finite resources, so she knew not to splurge, of course, but just looking at them made her happy.

Garan stared at his wife, who looked so giddy despite her relatively calm expression, and smiled, stopping himself from kissing her cheeks lest he affected her prestige (her words, not his).

They didn’t dare to absorb it yet, though. They heard that absorbing one could take several days, and they didn’t want to do this here.

"What a pity..." Althea said, reluctantly placing the crystals back in her space.

She was quickly distracted by a hot breath on her ears and large, callous hands on her hips.

"Wife, there are plenty of ways to pass the night."

...

When Althea and Garan woke up mid-morning of the next day, the other two had already left. They would also wait for their posts in Alterra within the day, hopefully, so they would know if the other two safely arrived in Dune Town.

To be honest, the two of them were also planning on leaving relatively early. But...Althea glared at Garan, whose energy ruined their plans.

Garan did not get intimidated by her glare. He just found it pretty, and a gentle, satisfied smile graced his stoic face.

Althea rolled her eyes.

When they went down the lobby, the hassle they were avoiding greeted them.

These were none other than the Lord’s people, waiting at the Inn lobby and prepared to invite them over. They had, after all, insinuated that they might be willing to work under him.

Althea sighed and she looked at her husband. "You handle it," she said. After all, It was his fault they got delayed.

Garan just held her hand and they went past the servants.

"Hello, the Lord—"

"Not interested." freeweɓnovel.cѳm
