Chapter 211: WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HOUSE?

Granny Wu patted his back.

"You’d better."

"If you need anything, call me."

The old woman snorted.

"If I need something, I’ll ask."

Despite the gruff response, her eyes looked suspiciously red.

Eventually, there was nothing left to delay.

After one final goodbye, Guiying climbed into the passenger seat. As the car pulled away, the villagers remained standing outside waving until they disappeared from sight.

For a long time, neither Guiying nor Liuxian spoke. The peaceful silence lingered until Guiying finally unlocked his phone and looked at the screen.

The moment it lit up, he almost laughed.

Most of the missed calls came from Liuxian, Limo, while countless others had been left by people from his modelling agency.

There were also numerous calls from Xue Deyong, a name that felt strangely unfamiliar now that the truth about his parentage had been revealed.

A month ago, Guiying would have called the man father.

Now he couldn’t.

Further down the list, another name appeared.

His actual father.

The sight caused his expression to tighten.

After considering his options, Guiying opened Limo’s chat first. Out of everyone waiting for a response, Limo was the person he wanted to reassure immediately.

His fingers moved quickly across the screen.

"Hey. A lot happened, and I’m sorry I didn’t answer your calls. I needed some time for myself, but I’m doing better now. I’m heading home. We’ll talk when I get back."

After sending the message, he locked the screen and turned his attention toward the passing scenery outside.

The silence lasted only a few moments before Liuxian spoke.

"I should probably tell you this now."

Guiying looked over.

Liuxian kept his eyes on the road.

"Since our marriage was revealed during that dinner, both families know about it now. My mother has been calling constantly and demanding that I bring you home."

Guiying wasn’t surprised.

A month had passed.

The consequences of that dinner had been waiting patiently for him this entire time.

"We’ll have to visit them soon because there are a lot of things that need to be explained."

Guiying nodded.

"I understand."

Then his gaze drifted toward the dark circles beneath Liuxian’s eyes, and the concern he had felt earlier immediately returned.

"But before any of that happens, you’re going to rest."

Liuxian blinked.

Guiying folded his arms.

"You look terrible."

The statement sounded remarkably similar to something Auntie Mo would say.

"I’ll survive. I’ll be fine as long as you’re here with me."

-_-

Guiying’s lips twitched, they were both separated but he was the only one looking awful.

"No. That’s not what I want to hear."

Guiying shook his head firmly.

"I want you to be okay even if I’m not here. Don’t hurt yourself on my account."

Liuxian looked as though he wanted to argue.

Unfortunately, Guiying was not finished.

"You’ve probably been living on coffee and alcohol. I can’t fathom what that has done to your stomach. It’s careless."

Liuxian almost choked.

"I’ve been within my limit."

"I don’t believe that, you’re barely holding up."

"I have, trust me."

"You literally lost weight and look like you’re my uncle. You better get rid of that beard when we get home."

Liuxian opened his mouth.

Then closed it again.

Unfortunately, he had no defense.

Guiying looked entirely unconvinced.

"You’re also eating a proper meal, taking your medication and going straight to bed."

The omega pointed at him.

"And that isn’t a suggestion."

For the first time in weeks, Liuxian laughed freely. "Okay, I heard you loud and clear. I’ll do whatever you say."

Guiying narrowed his eyes at him. He made it very clear that he didn’t believe a single word.

After everything he had witnessed during the past month, he no longer trusted Liuxian’s ability to take care of himself.

"You’d better. If I find out you’ve been ignoring your medication again, we’re going to have a problem."

Liuxian’s smile only deepened. "Understood."

The conversation gradually faded after that.

A comfortable silence settled between them. Unlike the silence that had haunted them during their separation, this one felt warm and peaceful because neither of them needed words to reassure the other anymore.

Guiying eventually turned his attention toward the scenery outside the window. The roads rolled past steadily while the afternoon sun cast long shadows across the landscape. The light created a calm atmosphere inside the vehicle.

For a while, he occupied himself with the mountain of notifications waiting on his phone. Every time he thought he had reached the end of the messages, another dozen seemed to appear.

Eventually, however, something else caught his attention. The route felt wrong. Guiying frowned slightly and looked outside again.

He had traveled this road enough times to know the general direction of their home. Yet none of the familiar landmarks had appeared.

Several more minutes passed before he finally looked at Liuxian. "This isn’t the way home."

Liuxian didn’t appear surprised by the observation. His hands remained steady on the steering wheel. There was even the faintest trace of amusement on his face.

"No, it isn’t."

Guiying immediately sat up straighter. "What do you mean it isn’t?"

A small smile tugged at the corner of Liuxian’s lips. "I mean exactly what I said."

The answer was so unhelpful that Guiying almost laughed. He stared at his husband for several seconds. He hoped the man would elaborate.

Unfortunately, Liuxian seemed perfectly content keeping his secrets.

"Then where are we going?" Guiying asked.

"Home," Liuxian replied.

Guiying pinched the bridge of his nose. "You realize that doesn’t answer anything, right?"

Liuxian chuckled quietly. "I know."

The response somehow made everything worse.

The drive continued for several more minutes. Then a security checkpoint appeared ahead of them. Several guards stood near the entrance.

Sophisticated surveillance equipment monitored every corner of the surrounding area. Guiying’s brows slowly rose.

The gates opened almost immediately after the vehicle approached. The guards didn’t even bother checking identification before allowing them through. The moment they entered, the scenery changed dramatically.

Wide private roads stretched ahead of them. Beautifully maintained grounds spread across the landscape. In the distance, Guiying could see workers tending gardens.
