Chapter 68: When the Accuser Fell Silent
"This is impossible, as he don’t have any money or connections to get this elixir; then where does it come from?"
Rowan shouted at Luke, then raised his finger at him and added another word.
"Unless he is colliding with demon whisper."
"...."
The entire hall fell silent, as this was far too serious an allegation.
Luke heard every word Rowan said, but the those last words enter his ear, which were clearly a lie, he snapped.
With a swift motion, he turned toward him and said in a slightly loud but angry voice.
"Sir, Rowan Ashenford!"
Everyone’s attention shifted toward Luke’s angry voice, while Nyra grew worried because this was her birthday party, and someone was now accusing a hero himself of colluding with demons.
The moment Luke turned, Rowan and his eyes met, and then Luke raised his angry voice.
"I don’t know. What’s your problem with me?"
"But..."
Luke paused on this and slowly looked around at everyone’s expressions, and clearly some of them were looking at him suspicion.
As there face was saying. "Like, how can a discarded hero without any support be able to get this?"
Then Luke slowly turned his gaze toward one corner, where his eyes met the only person looking at him with nothing but love and worry.
He can see her hands were trembling, as she doesn’t like the situation where her husband is treated like a traitor.
He moved his lips slightly, which makes Aurielle’s expression calmer somewhat.
"I’ll be fine... so don’t worry about me."
With that, he shifted his attention back toward Rowan and everyone, then shouted.
"I am a hero, summoned by the goddess of light herself!"
Then he raised his hand and pointed his finger toward Rowan and continued.
"Are you doubting that the person chosen by the goddess herself will collide with demons??"
Rowan heard Luke’s words and got nervous, because he doesn’t dare.
But Luke continues.
"If you don’t have any evidence, then please!, Sir Rowan!, stop making false allegations on other people’s!"
As Luke words finished which bring back the surrounding noble back to their senses and all of them thought.
"All summoned heroes have to fight demons, and the Goddess of Light is their natural bane. So how could the person she summoned ever collude with demons?"
Rowan also calmed down and regretted his words, realizing that he had said too much in anger.
Because of this now everyone was looking at him like he was the real guilty one.
Even seated members looked toward him with dissatisfaction, which brings sweat to his forehead.
But he still raised his voice, as there is still one main thing missing.
"But it still doesn’t answer: Where did you get that elixir?"
His voice sounded low this time, but he still made himself calm down because Luke will definitely not have an answer to this.
Luke narrowed his eyes as everyone’s attention again shifted back to him, though not with suspicion but with curiosity.
"Like, tell us your secrets, ohhh talentless hero."
Princess Lysandra smiled while seeing the situation becoming more interesting. and also got curious.
"Will he tell the secret?"
"Heh."
But the next moment everyone heard Luke’s mocking laugh.
"Ok, even though no one is obliged to tell their gift’s origin, I will still tell."
As Luke said those words, everyone’s expression became excited, while Aurielle’s expression became worried.
"Baron Luke, you don’t need to do that."
Suddenly Nyra’s voice comes from the platform.
And then she turned toward Rowan and with a displesed tone said in loud voice.
"I hope Sir Rowan Ashenford from now on you will not accuse falsely our guest!"
Rowan on this lowered his head more and become quiet.
After that Nyra shook her head and said to Luke in sorry voice.
"I am sorry that at my birthday party you have to faced such an allegation."
Luke turned toward Nyra, who was now saying sorry to him with an apologetic expression.
On this Luke shook his head and said.
"It’s not your fault, Lady Nyra."
Nyra sighed in relief at these words, but then Luke added another word.
"It’s just some idiots who don’t know their place spoiling other parties."
When the crowd heard Luke’s sarcastic voice.
They turned toward Rowan, who had now lowered his head more to avoid embarrassment, while some small laughs escaped from some noble mouths.
Rowan gritted his teeth but didn’t dare to say anything.
While Cedric also hides behind Rowan to hide his face.
Finally, Nyra took the vial with a smile and thanked Luke.
Luke nodded and said.
"Now, our second gift."
When everyone heard his words, they got baffled because they really thought he was just bluffing, but now here he is, bringing another gift out.
Soon a rainbow-colored small-sized fruit appeared in his hand.
The moment it appeared, surrounding lights seemed to dim somewhat, and the airflow increased.
Everyone’s eyes widened, then together they mutter a word.
"Origin Fruit."
Luke smiled seeing everyone’s reaction.
Even though Origin fruit was costly, it also depends on their rank. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
So after Luke found out that it can only be effective against Bronze rank and below, he thought about selling some fruits to gain a large amount of gold coins.
And it’s also low level, so it’s fine because any high-level beings will not come for him.
Then comes the real problem, "Who to sell to or where to?"
Then he thought about the count function and his daughter’s birthday.
"Great." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
He nodded as a large smile appeared on his face.
"Baron Luke, it’s too costly."
Suddenly Nyra’s voice brings Luke out of his thoughts about becoming rich.
Then he saw everyone’s expression become crazy, like they wanted to snatch this fruit and eat it themselves.
But they controlled it, because Count was still sitting on the high seat.
Then again, a questioning cheerful voice comes from the platform.
"Baron Luke, what rank is your origin fruit?"
Luke turned toward the voice, and yeah, he felt Lysandra’s intense gaze not on him but on the fruit in his hand.
On which he makes a sad face and brings one hand to his chest while saying in a painful voice.
"What should I say?"
"On that day it was a rainy night as the whole sky was filled with black clouds."
Everyone nodded and concentratedly heard his words.
"Then a sudden boom sound came as a single thunderbolt crashed toward our resting area."
"Gulp."
Someone gulped, as they were starting getting lost in the story.
"The place where it was stuck was so deep that I couldn’t see the end of it."
Some nodded; some imagined the scene.
"But the next moment more than 10 rainbow-colored fruits appeared above the holw, which were glowing so brightly that the whole forest was lit up."
"Wow."
Exclaiming sounds come from the crowd, but Luke continues with deep concentration.
"We got so happy because of this, but it didn’t last long."
"Soon they come, the guardians of the forest."
In the crowd, someone imagines a dragon coming, while others imagine the world-ending serpent.
Luke saw all those expressions, and his eyes twitched, and he thought.
"Was the lie too convincing?" then he continued.
"We fought day and night, and finally we got the victory, but—"
Luke took a long pause, on which everyone’s eyes were saying, "What’s next?"
Princess Lysandra watched and listened with an impatient expression, as she already knew he was exaggerating things.
"We lost our soldiers; we lost our money in those fights, but we were able to secure these fruits."
Everyone nodded good, but then they became confused, and someone asked.
"But you didn’t mention its rank."
Aurielle facepalmed after seeing her husband’s shameless behavior, which he often does whenever he is lying.
"Ahh, it’s a great, great E rank."
The crowd’s excitement grew with every great word Luke spoke, but when he revealed the final word E rank.
their expressions sank as they were brought back to reality so suddenly that they felt completely cheated.
