Chapter 285: Chapter 285: Staying Chaste for Her
Vincent Grant’s face was burning, his heart was searing, and blood pounded wildly through his veins. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
But he still pried Joanna Sherman’s fingers off, one by one.
He clenched his fist.
"Joanna Sherman, you listen to me. I’m married. Let alone being drugged—even if you held a knife to my throat, I would never be with any woman other than my wife!"
BAM!
Shoving her away, Vincent Grant turned and strode out.
Without a single glance back...
Joanna Sherman twisted her own fingers tightly.
She could clearly feel the drug was potent, that he was intensely aroused.
But he wouldn’t even touch a single one of her fingers.
"Vincent Grant, Vincent Grant!"
Joanna Sherman was practically hysterical with anger, screaming his name.
"We should have slept together on the night you proposed six years ago! If Sophia Shaw hadn’t interfered, we never would have been separated."
"We’re just delaying what we should have done six years ago! Why are you rejecting me?! Sophia Shaw is the one who should be out of the picture! Why are you saving yourself for her?!"
"Because she is my wife!" Vincent Grant’s voice was resolute and powerful.
He closed his eyes.
No one had ever been able to force him to do something he didn’t want to do.
Joanna Sherman broke down and screamed, "Wife, my ass! You two have nothing to do with each other anymore! You’re divorced!"
"What did you say?" Vincent Grant whipped his head around.
Only then did Joanna Sherman realize what she had just shouted.
In a moment of impulse, she had blurted out the divorce.
She was so flustered she didn’t know what to do, her lips trembling.
Vincent Grant didn’t move closer, but his glare was murderous. "Say what you just said again!"
"President Grant!"
Joel Hale suddenly appeared. "Why are you still here? Miss Shaw is waiting for you at The Regal."
"Faye?"
Vincent Grant froze.
He took out his phone to call her, but inadvertently swiped open his social media feed.
He happened to see the photo Levin Sawyer had posted.
The photo vaguely showed only a woman’s fingers.
Weren’t those slender fingertips Sophia Shaw’s?
Vincent Grant bolted out!
"Vincent Grant..." Joanna Sherman called out weakly.
Joel Hale gave her a meaningful look.
"Miss Sherman, know when to stop!"
He ran out after Vincent Grant.
Joanna Sherman was humiliated and desperate.
Even when she was naked, even when Vincent Grant was drugged, he still wouldn’t touch her!
’Have I really cheapened myself this much?’
’If I hadn’t been so stubborn three years ago, so obsessed with being a cut above the rest after marrying into the Grant family, and had just slept with him and gotten married, would I be in this humiliating position now?’
---
"Faye!"
Sophia Shaw had just finished her meal when the door to the private room was thrown open!
She looked up to see Vincent Grant, his face flushed and his body trembling slightly. But his eyes were locked on her, thick with worry.
He rushed over, pulling her into a protective embrace and checking her from head to toe.
"Are... are you okay?"
Levin Sawyer had just returned from paying the bill. Seeing Sophia Shaw in Vincent Grant’s arms, he was so furious he could have jumped. "You, Grant, what do you think you’re doing? Let go of Faye right now!"
"I should be asking you what you think you’re doing!"
Vincent Grant threw a punch at Levin Sawyer.
If Levin Sawyer hadn’t dodged in time, he would have been hit in the face.
"Are you insane?!" Levin Sawyer roared, kicking out at him.
Vincent Grant was unwell and couldn’t dodge in time, taking the kick.
He braced for the impact, then called his family doctor. "Get to The Regal immediately. My wife needs a check-up!"
"A check-up for what?" Sophia Shaw was completely baffled.
Vincent Grant shot a cold glance at Levin Sawyer. "President Sawyer, you’ve really put on quite a show today! You drugged me, so who else were you planning to drug?"
"Vincent Grant, what are you talking about!" Levin Sawyer’s face darkened. "Why would I need to drug you?"
"You knew Joanna Sherman was here on a blind date. You knew I wouldn’t ignore it. After drugging me, I’d take her away, and things between us would happen naturally."
"Isn’t that right?"
He suspected Levin Sawyer had planned to drug Sophia Shaw as well!
Levin Sawyer scoffed. "I really don’t know what you’re talking about!"
Sophia Shaw looked at Levin Sawyer. "I trust Levin. He’s never been one to use such dirty tricks!"
Vincent Grant looked at Sophia Shaw, a sudden, clawing pain seizing his chest.
"You trust Levin Sawyer?"
"Do you even know what he’s like behind your back?"
"I don’t care what he’s like! The point is, he wouldn’t drug you, and he wouldn’t drug me!"
Vincent Grant was so incensed his chest tightened. He had to press a hand to his heart, forcing the pain back before it could spread.
The family doctor arrived quickly and ran a series of tests on Sophia Shaw.
"President Grant, Miss Shaw is fine."
"Miss Shaw?" Vincent Grant repeated in a low voice.
The family doctor paused for a moment.
He had been calling her Miss Shaw ever since the day she married Vincent Grant. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Levin Sawyer glared at Vincent Grant with a cold snort. "Did you hear that? Faye is fine."
"Vincent Grant, I wasn’t the one who drugged you. I’m not so insecure that I need to use drugs to lock you and Joanna Sherman together!"
The implication was that even if they weren’t locked together, he was confident he could win Sophia Shaw’s heart!
Vincent Grant’s face turned a deep, bruised purple.
The doctor looked at him. "President Grant, you, on the other hand, need some treatment."
"I’ll take you home."
He didn’t feel safe leaving Sophia Shaw with Levin Sawyer.
Sophia Shaw took a step back, and Levin Sawyer sneered, "Right now, it’s safer for me to take Faye home than for you to!"
"Faye, let’s go."
Sophia Shaw followed Levin Sawyer past Vincent Grant and strode out.
Vincent Grant clenched his fists so tightly that the veins on the back of his hands bulged!
Their lighthearted, cheerful conversation drifted back to his ears:
"I swear to you, I really didn’t do anything to him."
"I know. You’re not that kind of person. Do you think I don’t know you?"
"Hehehe."
The intimate, barrier-free tone of their voices, combined with Levin Sawyer’s cheerful laughter, was both jarring and heart-wrenching.
Only after two IV drips did the heat in Vincent Grant’s body finally subside.
He sat in the car with his eyes closed, deep shadows under them.
Joel Hale had been standing outside the car the whole time.
Seeing him push the door open, he asked, "How are you, sir? Are you feeling better?"
"Go find out who administered the drug," Vincent Grant said.
Joel Hale’s expression stiffened slightly. "Wasn’t it... Levin Sawyer? He just refuses to admit it."
"Investigate!"
Joel Hale couldn’t say a word.
He was the one who had put the drug in Vincent Grant’s water.
Vincent Grant’s attitude toward Sophia Shaw was becoming increasingly clear, and Joel had also realized he’d made a monumental mistake.
He had processed a divorce certificate for him without Vincent Grant’s knowledge.
If this were to be exposed, losing his job would be the least of his worries. If Vincent Grant decided to pursue the matter, he would be in enormous trouble.
Only if Vincent had relations with Joanna Sherman, forcing him to marry her, could this matter be settled.
But not even Joel Hale had expected that Vincent Grant wouldn’t touch Joanna Sherman!
---
After taking a shower, Sophia Shaw came out and played with Bun for a while.
Bun was calling out, "Da-da-da," which made her think of Vincent Grant.
’He was given that kind of drug... I wonder how he is now.’
’Although Vincent Grant’s business is no longer my concern, I was supposed to be treating him to dinner today.’
’I can’t be sure if there was a problem with the food at the restaurant, but out of courtesy, I should at least ask.’
Sophia Shaw opened her phone, only to see several messages from Vincent Grant already sitting in her inbox.
