Chapter 278: Chapter 278: Dare to Jump Down, See If I’ll Give You a Single Cent

Jacobs desperately wanted to flip a table. She knew that being aggressive right now would only make things worse, so she could only look to Sophia Shaw. "Chief Engineer Shaw, why don’t we just tell them everything Chad Jennings and his family have done?"

Jacobs was Sophia’s assistant and was close to her, so she knew a fair bit about what Sophia had gone through as a child.

Sophia patted her arm. "There’s nothing to say. Let’s go."

She turned and walked out.

Jacobs was speechless.

Sophia’s actions left her stunned. She had no idea how to react and could only follow her out mechanically.

"Well now, what a heartless daughter! She’s not even afraid of the cameras!"

The old geezers were also dumbfounded.

How could someone in this world be so brazen?

If a video like this got out, her entire life would be dug up, and she’d be flamed by the public until she couldn’t take it anymore.

The old geezers’ never-failing weapon had suddenly lost its effect, and for a moment, they too forgot how to react.

Seeing Sophia leave, the hospital director slapped his forehead.

’This is bad!’

’The suicide attempt seems unavoidable now!’

’The hospital’s reputation is going to take another hit!’

He could only roar at the head of security, "Where are the police? Why aren’t they here yet!"

"The police... are still downstairs," the security head said, pointing below.

Distant water can’t quench a nearby thirst. The director could only walk toward Chad Jennings himself. "Sir... where’d he go?"

He instinctively looked toward the railing, but there was no sign of Chad Jennings.

"Chief Engineer Shaw, is it really okay for us to just leave like that? Won’t we get into trouble?" Jacobs asked, rushing over to Sophia once they reached the first floor.

She glanced anxiously toward the roof.

’It’s over a hundred meters. A fall from that height would smash him to pieces!’

It wouldn’t be a pity if Chad Jennings died. The problem was that those old geezers had filmed Sophia ignoring him, and if that video got out, it would be a huge mess.

"Maybe we should go back up and explain things. Chad Jennings was so awful to you in the past, those old geezers should..." Jacobs trailed off, her shoulders slumping.

’If they were the type to listen, they wouldn’t have said those things earlier.’

’People really don’t feel the pain until it happens to them.’

Sophia turned back and patted her. "Don’t worry. There won’t be any trouble."

’Staying would be the real trouble.’

"Chad Jennings won’t jump."

Jacobs was speechless.

Jacobs knew the cleaning staff loved to gossip, so she specifically went to find a janitor to ask.

The janitor handed her their phone.

Jacobs grinned the moment she saw it. She immediately forwarded it to her own phone and then sent it to Sophia.

Sophia lowered her head to watch. The video showed that just as she had turned to leave, Chad Jennings had hopped down from the railing.

He was furiously demanding to know why the director had let her go.

"How can your hospital be so irresponsible? Don’t you know she’s the only one with money? She can pay my debts and find me a nice place to live!"

"If you had just stopped her, I would’ve been set!"

Chad Jennings was halfway through his tirade when he suddenly realized he’d gotten down from the railing.

He scrambled back, trying to get into position to jump again.

It was a pathetic display, an incredibly ugly scene.

Just then, Sophia’s phone rang. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

Chad Jennings’s furious voice came from the other end. "Sophia Shaw, if you dare to ignore me, I’ll really jump!"

Sophia tilted her head back slightly. "If you have the guts, then jump. See if I give you a single cent!"

Chad Jennings: "..."

"Sophia! Sophia, you’re so cruel! So heartless! I’ll make you regret this!"

He leaned outward, still holding his phone.

THUD!

A muffled thud sounded as something landed on the air cushion the police had already deployed below.

Everyone looked over. The first thing they saw was a cell phone.

No one dared to get close, afraid of being hit by a falling person.

After a long wait, there was still no movement.

Up on the roof, Chad Jennings, who had been teetering precariously, froze. The moment he saw his phone fall, his blood ran cold.

He stretched his leg out several times but didn’t dare make another dangerous move.

In the end, he just hugged the railing and started bawling.

The director, speechless, pulled him back and had him taken to his hospital room.

Of course, Sophia wasn’t going to let Chad Jennings’s clownish behavior affect her. She went about her business as usual.

「In the blink of an eye, the day of the satellite launch arrived.」

This launch wasn’t particularly complex, but Sophia still went to the launch platform early to perform one final check.

The September night wind was already starting to feel cold.

Sophia wore a hard hat, her face flushed red from the wind.

Vincent Grant went up to the launch platform’s command center with her. Bathed in the orange light, he watched as she picked up the communication device and sent instructions to the distant teams.

Sophia’s expression was focused and serious, as if she couldn’t feel the cold at all.

Still, he shifted his position slightly, using his body to block the worst of the wind for her.

The launch was a success. By dawn, all the satellites had entered their designated orbits.

This also marked the end of the collaboration between Zenith and Lead Aerospace.

As the sun rose, Sophia strode down from the command platform.

Vincent Grant caught up to her. "Chief Engineer Shaw, the company is holding a thank-you banquet. I was hoping you..."

"No need." Sophia didn’t even look up. "I have other things to do. Vice President Goldman will attend the banquet on my behalf."

Samuel Goldman walked over with a slight smile. "President Grant, my apologies. Our Chief Engineer Shaw isn’t fond of social events. President Sawyer gave me strict orders to handle all such occasions in her stead."

Vincent Grant looked at Sophia, his disappointment clear.

But Sophia was already striding out the door, leaving without a moment’s hesitation.

"Sophia," Vincent Grant called out, chasing after her.

"Can we... can we find some time to have a proper talk?"

Sophia’s expression was indifferent. "President Grant, if this is about business, please contact President Sawyer or President Goldman. If it’s a personal matter... I don’t believe we have any personal matters to discuss."

"We..."

"Sorry, I’m busy." Without waiting for him to finish, Sophia ducked into her car and left.

She hadn’t seen Bun in days and missed him terribly.

Vincent Grant watched with a sense of loss as Sophia’s car sped away, the fingers of his hand curling and uncurling at his side.

When Sophia got home, she didn’t see Ms. Archer or Bun.

She had no choice but to call them. "Are you two out?"

"Yeah." Ms. Archer’s voice sounded troubled over the phone. "Faye, can you come over? The other party wants to see a parent."

Sophia was completely baffled, but she followed Ms. Archer’s directions to another part of the residential community.

The community where Sophia lived had a wonderful environment. It was a complete forest landscape, with large trees and green grass everywhere.

She saw Ms. Archer under a tree, holding Bun and looking a little upset.

"What happened?" Sophia asked, hurrying over. She almost instinctively took Bun and looked him over from top to bottom.

"It’s not Bun." Ms. Archer pointed further in. "It’s Cedric... I think he got into a fight?"

"Cedric Grant?"

Sophia was surprised.

Ms. Archer nodded. "Cedric has been coming over to see Bun whenever he’s free lately. I didn’t mention it since you’ve been so busy. Usually, he plays with Bun for a little while and then goes home. I don’t know how it happened, but just now, he got into a fight with someone."

Sophia looked over and saw Cedric Grant standing under the tree-lined path, his hands clenched into tight fists.

Across from him stood a woman and a boy who was a head taller and much stockier than him.

The boy had visible scratches on his face and was crying, sniffling loudly.

The boy’s mother was angrily shoving Cedric. "You have no manners! How could you hit someone!"

"You’re not leaving until you give us an explanation for this!"

The woman shoved Cedric with exceptional force, slamming his back hard against the rough tree trunk!

Even though her feelings for Cedric Grant had cooled, she couldn’t bear to see him being pushed around like that. She strode over and helped him steady himself. "Ma’am, if there’s an issue, let’s talk it out. Please don’t get physical."
