Chapter 150: Chapter 120: Bull Chief
Lin Mo didn’t speak, just gently touched the back of Feney’s hand.
She instantly understood. Placing her Magic Staff on the ground, she carefully concealed its glow and cast [Light Aid] on Lin Mo.
The next moment, his figure vanished from where he stood.
After confirming the area was safe, the cautious mutated giant rat relaxed its guard slightly, leading its pack to forage for food.
However, just as it was squeaking to its kin, an extremely faint sound suddenly reached its ears.
It immediately crouched down, its ears perked up, scanning its surroundings, ready to flee at a moment’s notice.
However, there was nothing abnormal in the surroundings. It seemed to be nothing more than a passing breeze.
The evening breeze blew past again. The mutated giant rat, having just straightened up, suddenly felt a prickle on its back.
Without a moment’s hesitation, it dove straight for the entrance to its hole. But it was too late...
A swift blade descended just as its head entered the hole. Seven consecutive streams of Sword Qi struck all at once, severing its head completely.
[Sword Storing and Continuous Slash] Skill Level +15
[Invisibility] Skill Level +15
Lin Mo, now visible after launching his attack, smiled faintly. ’Just as I thought. This thing really is a coward; it bolts at the slightest hint of trouble.’
’Good thing I anticipated its move and aimed my Sword Qi straight for the entrance of the hole. The power of [Sword Charge Strike] was enough for a one-hit kill.’
’Otherwise, it really might have escaped.’
’If it hadn’t been me, even a Tier Two Assassin Professional would have had a good chance of failure.’
’Because even if another Assassin could hide as perfectly as I did, instantly killing a Threat Level 2 Demon is extremely difficult—next to impossible, even.’
’Not unless they possessed both Excellent Level Stealth Skills and Excellent Level Burst Skills, and the odds of that are even lower.’
Skills are a rare commodity, even for Professionals.
It’s one of the main obstacles preventing many Professionals from advancing. Without New Skills, they can’t raise their Attributes, and thus their Level stagnates.
Only those with powerful backgrounds, or exceptionally talented geniuses worthy of being recruited, wouldn’t have to worry about such things.
Looking at the rat’s head that had tumbled into the hole, Lin Mo let out a small sigh of relief.
Given the difficulty, it was no wonder this low-numbered quest had remained unclaimed for so long.
Of course, the damage caused by this mutated giant rat was also relatively minor—nothing compared to the rampant Goblins and the recently emerged Undead Creatures.
The Association naturally wouldn’t devote much energy to such an inconsequential Demon.
In any case, the quest was finally complete. Lin Mo made quick work of the other few Ordinary giant rats, not bothering with the ones that had fled—it would be too much trouble to hunt them down. He cut off the mutated giant rat’s tail, then skinned it and took the pelt.
It was getting late; they needed to set up camp quickly.
It was at this moment that another drawback of a three-person team, compared to their previous seven-person squad, became apparent.
There was too much to do, and they were shorthanded.
After a good while of struggling, they finally finished setting up the tents and traps. Lin Mo couldn’t be bothered to hunt, so he just took out some ingredients and whipped up a few small burgers to get by.
Feney also took out the pastries she had brought to share, and even tried one of Lin Mo’s small burgers.
She didn’t find the taste particularly amazing, but it was novel, so she praised it nonetheless.
With only three of them, the night watch shifts became much longer for each person...
Lin Mo took the first watch. He stared blankly at his status panel while feeding sticks into the campfire.
’High Tier Skills are difficult to level up. Ideally, I should get another Low Tier Assassin Profession Skill first. It would be best to raise the Assassin Profession to Level 2.’
’And then there’s the Knight Profession. I only need four more Basic Attributes for that.’
’[Shield Strike] is still Level 3. Getting it to Level 5 will grant two points of Constitution. That, plus the bonus from learning a New Skill, should be exactly what I need.’
’And I can’t neglect Magic, either. Right now, my Magic is still too weak to be my primary method of combat.’
’Sigh... I have to train everything...’
’Fortunately, I don’t have much external pressure at the moment. Here in Silver Stream City, Lawrence’s claws clearly can’t reach me. I can just take it one step at a time.’
’Tomorrow’s Minotaur Settlement should yield a decent harvest.’
Lin Mo hadn’t forgotten: a single Minotaur gave a whopping 8 points of Skill Level!
And what awaited him tomorrow was an entire Minotaur Settlement, which even included a Bull Chief...
