Chapter 148: Chapter 120: Bull Chief (Part 2)

He had accepted this task on a solo outing shortly after arriving in Silver Stream City. His plan was to complete it whenever he happened to run into a Minotaur, but he hadn’t encountered a single one yet.

This was a perfect opportunity. After finishing this task, he could sell the materials to Los and also add another completion to his E Level Task count.

If he completed three E Level Tasks at once, Lin Mo’s count would jump straight to 16!

Without hesitation, Lin Mo went straight to Lena’s counter.

"I’m here to accept two tasks, numbers E1348 and E6636."

"Of course, Mr. Lin Mo. Please wait a moment."

Lena quickly finished the registration and handed the squad’s plaque back to Lin Mo. "Please be safe~"

Smiling and waving to the Little Cat Girl, Lin Mo led his two teammates out of the Association and headed straight for the city gates.

Not far behind them, a figure in a maid’s outfit watched them from a distant café. She unhurriedly finished the pastry in front of her, drained her cup of coffee in a single gulp, and then left a Silver Coin on the table before her form vanished...

----------

It was about 9:00 in the morning when the Silver Radiance Squad walked out of the city gates and headed toward Loran Forest.

The journey to Loran Forest would take about half an hour.

After entering Loran Forest, it was another half-day’s walk to their destination. As their strength grew, they found themselves spending more and more time just traveling.

Lin Mo had wondered if there was a way to shorten their travel time, but other Adventurers had pondered the same question, and the consensus was that there were no good solutions.

The journey to Loran Forest, at least, was straightforward. They could hire a carriage and cut the travel time in half, or even more. However, that would only save them a dozen minutes or so.

Once inside the forest, however, a carriage could hardly proceed...

Merchant caravans generally stuck to the main, cleared roads, whereas the tasks Adventurers needed to complete were almost always far from them.

Only in rare cases could they save a little time by taking a carriage along a main road. Most of the time, they just had to rely on their own two feet.

Then again, in the tales of Minstrels, powerful Adventurers might capture a Demon to use as a mount.

But not just any Demon could be a mount...

The Demons in Loran Forest, for example, generally weren’t intelligent enough to be tamed.

The long trek was no problem for Lin Mo and Ali, but it was more difficult for Feney, the Priest.

On previous tasks, the squad had often stopped to let her rest. After all, she was the patron providing their extra rewards, so no one had any objections.

This time was no different, of course.

Before noon, the Silver Radiance Squad stopped for a short rest.

Lin Mo didn’t forget the principles an Adventurer should follow. Although the Demons in this area were, in theory, unlikely to pose much of a threat, he still cautiously scouted the surroundings and set up a few simple traps.

Feney took a muffin from her personal food box and began nibbling on it.

’Come to think of it, Feney seems to have quite a sweet tooth. She always brings plenty of delicious, high-sugar foods on their excursions.’

Lin Mo couldn’t help but glance at her flat stomach.

’She eats a lot and probably didn’t exercise much before, yet she isn’t the least bit fat. All I can say is, what an enviable Constitution...’

After they had rested for a while, one of the traps Lin Mo had set was suddenly triggered.

This actually surprised Lin Mo a little. Although he always set traps out of caution, it wasn’t often that they were actually triggered.

He pushed aside the tall grass and saw that it was a Goblin.

The Goblin, its leg caught in the trap, cried out for help, attracting several of its nearby companions.

’Perfect. They’re just delivering some more Skill Level points to me...’

Lin Mo never showed any mercy to these damn, evil, green-skinned creatures. He killed them on sight.

And so, just as the Goblins were gathered around the trap, trying to figure out how to rescue their comrade, a Fireball suddenly shot out and struck one of them right in the head.

In an instant, the Magic’s immense power burned the ugly green head to a crisp.

"GAK!"

The Goblins shrieked in alarm and looked toward the direction the Fireball had come from. Lin Mo was walking slowly toward them, another Fireball already leaving his hand.

The Fireball Technique struck a Goblin’s torso. The scorching Flame erupted, and the creature let out a bloodcurdling scream before collapsing to the ground, motionless, just a few seconds later.

The remaining Goblins instantly lost all will to fight and scattered in every direction.

Lin Mo didn’t rush. He pursued them at an unhurried pace, picking them off one by one with his Fireball Technique.

In the end, he gained another 6 points of Skill Level for his Fireball Technique.

Lin Mo glanced at his progress (13/100) and sighed in resignation. ’A long way to go.’

Returning to their resting spot, he found that Feney was about done with her break. The party set off once more, heading in the direction of the mutated giant rats recorded in the task description.

Since there were only three of them, it was difficult to form a proper column. Instead, they walked side-by-side, with Lin Mo and Ali flanking Feney to protect her.

The journey was inevitably boring. Aside from staying alert to his surroundings, Lin Mo would occasionally strike up a conversation with his teammates during lulls.

For instance, he was quite curious about Feney’s staff.

It was silver-gray, a little over a meter long, and served not only as a Magic Staff but also as Feney’s walking cane and even a melee weapon.

"Feney, this staff of yours... the material isn’t Mithril, is it?"
