Chapter 132: Chapter 108: Encountering the Crimson Flame Tiger
"There are two Gale Foxes about 200 meters ahead and to the left. I don’t see any other Demons for now."
"Gale Foxes? Those things are a pain to kill."
Rick shook his head. "Once those things start running, only a Professional Level Assassin or higher could even think of catching them."
"They’re also extremely cautious. They’ll flee at the slightest disturbance. At 200 meters, they’ve probably already spotted us," Alton added.
"I’ll go give it a try."
Lin Mo didn’t want to give up so easily, mainly because he’d spent the entire morning looking for Hemostatic Grass without encountering a single Demon. His [Stabbing] skill was still short by one point of Skill Level, which was incredibly frustrating.
"Alright."
Alton knew Lin Mo was a Professional Level Assassin, so of course he didn’t try to stop him. "There’s not much we can do to help with this one. Be careful."
Feney cast [Light Aid] on Lin Mo, boosting some of his Attributes.
Lin Mo smiled and nodded in thanks before heading in the direction Carson had indicated.
After advancing about 100 meters, Lin Mo decisively activated [Invisibility], vanishing from sight.
He continued forward, and after just two or three seconds, he spotted them: two foxes, each over a meter long, with beautiful, blue-green fur.
Just as Alton had guessed, the two Gale Foxes had already sensed something was wrong. They were looking around suspiciously, having clearly caught Lin Mo’s scent.
But since Lin Mo was using [Invisibility], they couldn’t see him and didn’t immediately flee.
Hunting in the forest wasn’t easy, after all.
One of the Gale Foxes soon lowered its head and went back to gnawing on the venison before it.
Lin Mo, watching his timing, closed to within 50 meters. At this range, they were as good as dead.
A Gale Fox was indeed fast; even a typical Professional Assassin wouldn’t be confident about catching one. But Lin Mo was anything but typical. His 24 points in Agility put his speed close to that of a Level 2 Assassin. If he’d been further away and the two Gale Foxes had split up, one might have escaped. But once he got this close, they had zero chance of survival.
With only a second of [Invisibility] remaining, Lin Mo didn’t hesitate. He struck, thrusting his sword toward the Gale Fox that was busy eating.
The figure appearing out of nowhere clearly startled it, but at this distance, there was no time to escape. The Wolf Bone Sword plunged precisely through its open mouth and deep into its throat.
Lin Mo figured the creature’s pelt would be worth something, so he had deliberately chosen this angle to keep the fur as intact as possible.
With the physical damage bonus from [Invisibility], plus the Strength bonus from both the Wolf Bone Sword and Feney’s [Light Aid], Lin Mo’s damage output met and even exceeded that of a Level 2 Warrior. Even with just an Ordinary Level skill like [Stabbing], he easily slew the Gale Fox.
[Stabbing] Skill Level +8
The message flashed in Lin Mo’s vision. He registered that the 8-point Skill Level increase was because the Gale Fox had a Threat Level of 1—the same as an adult Mutated Goblin. He pushed the thought aside, preparing to chase down the other fleeing Gale Fox.
However...
The moment Lin Mo started to move, a tiger’s roar suddenly echoed from the distance.
A moment later, a ball of fire descended upon the fleeing Gale Fox. With a piteous shriek, the fox was burned to a blackened crisp, collapsing to the ground, twitching.
Lin Mo looked forward. A colossal beast, nearly five meters tall, was approaching slowly from the distance...
’A Crimson Flame Tiger? But... something’s not quite right, is it?’
