Chapter 130: Chapter 108: Encountering the Crimson Flame Tiger
’But on second thought, I’ll just forget about it. We’re bound to run into monsters on the way to find the Crimson Flame Tiger tomorrow anyway. I can level up then.’
Closing the Skill Level panel, Lin Mo finished the rib in his hands and grabbed another. It wasn’t so hot to the touch now.
Nearby, the pork rib soup was almost done simmering.
Lin Mo took a sip with the spoon he carried with him. The flavor was much better than he had expected.
Because the seasoning was so simple, Lin Mo had originally thought the soup wouldn’t taste very good. But perhaps because the ingredients themselves were of such high quality, there wasn’t the slightest hint of a gamy or unpleasant smell—only a savory aroma and a clean sweetness. A little salt for seasoning was all it needed.
"The soup’s ready."
At his call, the group immediately gathered around, and the atmosphere became lively.
Feney gradually began to fit in. Even Ali, who had always found it difficult to blend in with the group, was slowly able to exchange a few words with everyone, thanks to Lin Mo’s presence.
However, another ordeal awaited the newcomer, Feney.
Sleeping.
Sleeping in the wild was truly unpleasant. Not only was it uncomfortable, but you couldn’t sleep too deeply, and you had to get up for night watch.
Lin Mo himself hadn’t been used to it for the first several nights, let alone Feney, who had always lived a life of luxury.
Out of consideration for the newcomer, and because Feney didn’t know anything about traps or keeping watch, her shift was scheduled for last, just before dawn. It also had a significant overlap with Lin Mo’s own watch.
This would both give her enough time to rest and ensure her safety.
Even so, the process of falling asleep was an ordeal for Feney.
She was used to sleeping on a soft, large bed, with an Ice Element Magic Energy Furnace cooling her room. But now... although she had a sleeping bag, it was obviously a far cry from the comfort of her bed in the City Lord’s Mansion.
Fortunately, the forest nights weren’t too hot, and they had scattered potent Insect Repellent around, so she didn’t have to worry about being bothered by mosquitoes and other bugs.
The night passed in a daze.
As dawn approached, Lin Mo went to wake Feney for the last watch.
Feney was curled up in her sleeping bag. Her round hat was finally off, her long golden hair fanning out beneath her. Her face was still a little round, but this perfect plumpness only accentuated her cuteness.
Lin Mo gently poked her cheek. It was soft and plush, sinking in easily.
"Feney, time to get up."
No response. He poked her again.
"Feney?"
"Mmm..."
After a few more pokes, the girl finally let out a whimper, as if whining sweetly, "Sister Shephilia, just five more minutes..."
’She’s mistaking me for her family’s Maid.’
Lin Mo chuckled helplessly and gently pinched her cheek. "Time to get up for your watch, Feney."
Feney’s eyes fluttered open as if waking from a dream, her light purple pupils still holding a trace of confusion.
"Mr. Lin Mo..."
It wasn’t until her gaze met Lin Mo’s that her thoughts slowly came into focus.
"Ah, sorry! I’ll get up right away!"
Lin Mo turned around, and Feney quickly scrambled out of her sleeping bag. She straightened her clothes and hair, then put her round white hat back on.
The sky was just beginning to lighten. Lin Mo couldn’t be bothered to go back to sleep for the short time remaining, so he decided to keep Feney company on her watch, taking the opportunity to explain the traps and what she needed to pay attention to.
After all, Flora had specifically asked him to take good care of the girl, and Lin Mo had even accepted a Skill Scroll from her. Naturally, he had to be attentive.
Besides, Feney was obedient and cute, and naturally likable, which made people subconsciously want to look after her more.
"How does it feel being an Adventurer?"
After checking the traps with Feney, Lin Mo sat down with her under a tree to chat. The nocturnal Demons were also about to settle in for the day.
"It’s a lot of fun. Even more fun than I originally thought..."
Feney swung her little feet, looking very happy. Then, a hint of worry appeared on her face. "But some of the hardships are also more annoying than what you read about in books."
After all, having rarely seen Demons for so many years, Feney still wasn’t used to combat. She needed more time to adjust to the gorier scenes.
But for a newcomer on her first adventure, Feney’s performance yesterday was already quite good.
Not only did she provide support to her teammates, but after her Magic Power ran out, Lin Mo seemed to recall seeing her whack a Goblin with her staff.
It was a bit comical, but not a bad move.
Ordinary Goblins are relatively Fragile Demons, after all. As a Priest Professional, Feney’s Constitution isn’t much different from an Ordinary person’s, but it’s still slightly higher.
And that was enough.
Even with the Strength of an Ordinary person, a full-force blow was enough to smash a Goblin’s skull.
When Lin Mo brought this up, Feney looked rather embarrassed. "My mother always used to tell me that when I meet a bad guy, I should hit him hard on the head. I wasn’t really thinking at the time, I just subconsciously..."
"Haha, but you need to be more careful today. If you encounter a powerful Demon, you must maintain a safe distance and hide behind your teammates."
"Okay, I’ll remember that."
Feney nodded very seriously.
As the sky grew brighter, it was about time for everyone to wake up. The little she-wolf, rubbing her rumbling stomach, was the first one out of her tent, ready for breakfast and to greet the new day.
She rubbed her sleepy eyes, and just as she was about to go find Lin Mo to make "little hamburgers," she looked up and saw the two of them nestled together under a tree, chatting with big smiles on their faces.
