Chapter 128: Chapter 107: Two or Three Minutes is Pretty Great, Too
While Lin Mo was tied up with the Goblin Leader, the other members of the Bull Run Squad were also engaged in their own fights.
Ali was pinned down by an Adult Mutant Goblin and a Sub-adult Mutant Goblin, and she was not having an easy time.
Although she was a bit stronger than other newly promoted Professionals, her opponents had backup. She was outnumbered, making the situation genuinely perilous.
In comparison, Alton’s enemies were slightly weaker, consisting of only one Adult Mutant Goblin and a few ordinary Goblins.
But the pressure on him was immense. He couldn’t afford a single slip-up, or Solan and Feney in the back row would be in danger. What worried him most was that further ahead, two Sub-adult Mutant Goblins were attacking Rick and Carson.
Although Rick and Carson’s skills weren’t bad, they still struggled against the Mutated Goblins. They were already injured and resisting with great difficulty.
This was the scene that unfolded while Lin Mo was occupied. The Bull Run Squad was clearly stretched thin, struggling to handle a Goblin Settlement of this near-medium size.
Fortunately, they had Feney. She cast two consecutive Healing Techniques on Rick; otherwise, he would have collapsed long ago.
But Feney’s Magic Power was limited. Both Healing Magic and Support Magic consumed a great deal of it, and her reserves were now nearly bottomed out. The continuous casting had also taken a significant toll on her Spirit, leaving her dizzy and light-headed.
After noticing their plight, Lin Mo immediately rushed over. He opened with a Combined Technique of [Invisibility] and [Sword Storing and Continuous Slash], instantly killing the Adult Mutant Goblin that Alton was holding back from attacking the back row.
[Invisibility] Skill Level +8
[Sword Storing and Continuous Slash] Skill Level +8
An Adult Mutant Goblin provided the same 8 points of Skill Level as before.
With the threat of the powerful enemy gone, the pressure on Alton immediately lessened. The ordinary Goblins posed no threat to him.
Feney’s spirits lifted. Fighting through her dizziness, she mustered her courage, gripped her staff with both hands, and brought it down hard on a Goblin’s head.
The Ranger, Solan, was now free to help. He immediately supported Rick’s position. He drew his bowstring taut, and a spinning arrow flew swiftly, embedding itself precisely in the back of a Mutated Goblin.
Lin Mo followed right behind him. With two quick slashes, he finished off both Mutated Goblins.
And so, only one Adult and one Sub-adult Mutated Goblin remained on the field, along with a few ordinary Goblins.
Seeing the tables had turned, the two Mutated Goblins lost all will to fight. They turned and fled in a panic. But Ali wouldn’t let them escape. Gripping her Sword with both hands as frost spread across the blade, she roared, "Frost Slash!"
The next moment, a beam of ice-blue Sword Qi shot out, leaving a deep gash on the Adult Mutant Goblin.
Blood did not gush from the wound; instead, it froze instantly. This was not a good thing, however. The Ice Cold breath had already seeped into its body through the blood vessels. Within seconds, its movements became much stiffer.
This allowed Lin Mo to catch up to it faster, and he decisively took the kill.
The other Sub-adult Mutant Goblin had no hope of escaping from under his nose. Lin Mo easily caught up to it and took it down as well.
Only the ordinary Goblins were left. They had long since fallen into chaos, some dying, others fleeing. The group gave chase for a while, killing most of them. It was too difficult to pursue the few that slipped through the cracks.
PHEW—!
Alton let out a long breath. ’Thank goodness, no one was seriously hurt. It was difficult, but we completed the mission successfully in the end.’
Alton was uninjured, and Ali only had minor wounds. Solan and Feney had been well protected. Rick and Carson, however, were not in good shape. This was especially true for Rick; even after receiving two Healing Techniques during the fight, he was still covered in wounds.
Feney walked over to the two of them, but her Magic Power was already depleted. She took a blue Potion out of her pocket and was about to drink it when Rick quickly stopped her. "Wait, Miss Feney, there’s no need to use something so precious... These injuries aren’t a big deal. It’s fine if you just rest for a bit, recover your Magic Power, and then heal us."
Although they knew Feney wasn’t short on money, they couldn’t accept it with a clear conscience. After all, this was a Magic Potion, which was even more expensive than a Life Potion!
Besides, even if her Magic Power could be restored, continuing to use Magic would put too much strain on Feney’s Spirit. If this went on, it could cause irreversible damage.
"You should rest first, Miss Feney. As Adventurers, we’re already used to these kinds of injuries."
Carson chimed in.
Feney looked troubled, clutching the blue Potion in her hand. In the end, she put it away.
Then, she immediately took out a red Life Potion. "Then you guys use this..."
Rick didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ’What’s the difference?’
They had Life Potions too, but to them, that stuff was for life-or-death situations. How could they bear to use it on such minor injuries?
All they could say was, as expected of the City Lord’s daughter, her concept of money was worlds apart from theirs.
Seeing Feney’s dejected and troubled expression, Lin Mo exchanged a glance with Alton before slowly walking over. "Since Feney means well, you should just use a little. She’ll be sad otherwise. We can count this Potion as a squad expense later and deduct it from the extra mission rewards."
Rick and Carson glanced at each other. The thought of extra rewards made it seem not so wasteful, and they had indeed earned quite a bit on this trip.
But Feney shook her head. She suddenly mustered her courage, her voice a little louder. "You don’t have to deduct it. It’s really okay... I’m already very happy that you’re all willing to bring me along on missions, but I want to be a real member of the squad."
—not just someone to be looked after, kept separate from the rest.
Lin Mo gave her a somewhat surprised look. ’It seems this young lady, who appears soft and obedient on the surface, actually has her own surprisingly strong opinions and principles.’
’That makes sense. If she weren’t like this, she never would have wanted to become an Adventurer in the first place.’
"Well..."
Rick looked to his captain. Seeing Alton nod, he no longer hesitated. "Then we won’t stand on ceremony."
He then took the Potion from Feney’s hand and opened the stopper.
Even so, they couldn’t bear to drink much of it, finishing less than a fifth of the bottle. Their injuries immediately recovered a great deal, and the pain gradually faded.
That was enough.
They immediately got up and started to help clean up the battlefield.
There were too many corpses to deal with, so Lin Mo didn’t just stand by; he joined in to help.
Even Feney followed him, learning how to process the loot.
At first, her hands were shaking so badly she didn’t dare use her knife, and she nearly cut herself.
Lin Mo’s demonstration wasn’t enough, so he had to guide her hand-over-hand a few times before she got slightly better.
’Well, what do you know, her hands are pretty soft...’
After processing the loot, they quickly moved to a clean spot to rest properly.
It wasn’t very late, not even three in the afternoon yet. But after such a major battle, it was obviously not a good time to take on another mission. They decided to rest properly, recuperate, and deal with things tomorrow.
With plenty of time on their hands, they could have a proper dinner. Solan and Alton went hunting nearby while the others rested at the camp. Lin Mo and Ali set up traps.
After resting for a while and recovering most of her Magic Power, Feney cast a Healing Technique on Ali, Rick, and Carson each.
Lin Mo observed this. The effect of a Professional Level Healing Technique was indeed impressive. A single cast was roughly equivalent to one-third of a Basic Life Potion. However, the Magic Power consumption was also quite substantial.
A normal Professional Mage wouldn’t run out of blue after just a few skills.
’I should find a chance to learn it later,’ Lin Mo thought. ’But as for practicing it... with my current Magic Power, I probably can’t afford it.’
’Better not get too greedy. I’ll focus on mastering the two spells I already have. Once I have more Magic Power in the future, I can think about developing other Professions.’
’There’s also that Magic Scroll I have. I can put it up for consignment at the auction house when I get back. Once it sells, I can buy other Magic or consider saving up for the Secret Silver Gloves.’
Besides the Healing Skill, Lin Mo was also curious about the other two spells Feney had just used.
One of them helped restore Physical Strength. That one was probably a relatively basic spell; the Apprentice Priests at the Church in Roland Town knew it too.
But the other spell, the one that increased Attributes, was quite impressive.
"Mr. Lin Mo, are you referring to ’Light Aid’?"
"Yes, the one that increases Attributes. That spell should be at least Excellent Level, right?"
"That one is an Excellent Level spell, but I’m not very proficient with it yet..."
Feney looked a little dejected. "So the effect isn’t very good, and its duration is also quite limited."
’True,’ Lin Mo recalled. The feeling of being enhanced had only lasted for about two or three minutes.
After all, she was only a Level 1 Priest using an Excellent Level Skill. It was normal for it not to last long.
"I’m sorry. If I were more skilled with my Magic... I could have been more helpful to everyone."
Feney said reproachfully, her head lowered.
"It’s okay, you already did great."
Lin Mo gently patted her round cap. "Two or three minutes is great, too."
Feney blinked in confusion. Even though his words were comforting, she felt that Mr. Lin Mo’s tone was a little strange.
AHEM—
Looking at Feney’s innocent face, Lin Mo coughed awkwardly. ’Good,’ he thought, ’the people in this world probably don’t get that joke.’
Solan and Alton soon returned from their hunt. This time, they had caught a wild boar. It looked like a relatively small one, not very large in size.
But it was definitely enough for them to eat. Besides, the meat of a half-grown piglet like this was the most tender.
Lin Mo eagerly set up a bonfire. They were having barbecue tonight...
