Chapter 208: Chapter 136: A Congratulatory Gift of Superpower Knowledge

「Ten days later.」

Outside Ring Academy, a black SUV was parked on the side of the road.

"Here, take a couple of these."

"Aw, you shouldn’t have."

"Not at all. It’s all about give and take."

A security guard in a black suit handed over several drinks. Standing by the car, Chen Xiao chuckled and had no choice but to accept them.

After spending two straight months together, they had grown quite familiar with Miss Su’s security team and were no longer as distant as they were at the beginning.

"Captain, here."

Right after, Xiong Cheng, who was wearing an old leather jacket, regifted one of the drinks with a chuckle, handing a bottle over.

Lu Chao was sitting in the back seat of the car with the door half-open.

He took it, nodding with a smile, then looked over at Chen Xiao, who was wearing a casual athletic jacket.

"How’s it feel?"

Perhaps spurred on by Lu Chao’s own progress, Chen Xiao had finally taken the last step and successfully broken through to the Professional Level a few days ago.

Hearing this, both Xiong Cheng and Fang Xu cast envious glances his way.

"Ah, it’s all thanks to you."

Chen Xiao ran a hand through his hair and said with a smile, "After my uncle-in-law found out you broke through, he specially prepared some resources for me."

"If it weren’t for that, I never would have made it past this hurdle."

"Heh."

Lu Chao chuckled and gave a slight nod.

He knew why Yu Yong had done it.

Because he was already at the Elite Level, it wouldn’t be long before he was recommended for a transfer or received an exceptional promotion.

When that time came, the captain’s position for Team 3 would become vacant, and it was undoubtedly safer to have one of their own people in charge.

"That’s great."

Getting out of the car, Lu Chao clapped Chen Xiao on the shoulder, genuinely happy for him. "If all goes as expected, Team 3 will be in your hands soon."

"Take it slow, and if anything comes up, report to Captain Yang."

Chen Xiao had joined the Patrol Department earlier than him and had put in a lot of hard work behind the scenes. He had a good character—quite loyal and responsible.

Therefore, he also hoped that after he left, Chen Xiao would be the one to take over as captain of Team 3.

"Nothing’s set in stone yet. You’re putting pressure on me, you know."

Unexpectedly, Chen Xiao just grinned and said, "Besides, if I had a choice, I’d rather keep following you."

"Oh?"

Lu Chao was a little surprised. Then he heard the other man tease, "Just think about it, you’re already at the Elite Level at such a young age."

"What if one day you break through to the Superpower Level? I have to keep clinging to a powerhouse like you."

He said it half-jokingly, half-seriously. At his side, Xiong Cheng’s eyes lit up, and Fang Xu also nodded to himself, thinking it made a lot of sense.

The Superpower Level might be difficult to break through, likely taking several years at least.

But in Lu Chao, they saw a glimmer of hope.

Instantly understanding Chen Xiao’s line of thinking, Lu Chao gave a wry smile.

Twisting the cap off his soda and taking a sip, he joked, "Your uncle-in-law taught you to say that, didn’t he?"

He could tell these weren’t words Chen Xiao would come up with on his own.

Besides, not long ago, after learning he had broken through to the Elite Level, Yu Yong and Captain Yang had sent him a congratulatory gift together.

In their conversation, they had tactfully mentioned that they hoped he would continue to look out for Chen Xiao.

"Hehe."

Scratching his head, Chen Xiao knew he’d been seen through and, for once, looked a little embarrassed.

Lu Chao smiled. He didn’t think there was anything wrong with this approach.

’They’re my own people, and I can trust them. It’s only natural to help where I can. Who knows, maybe one day these connections will pay off for me, too.’

Footsteps sounded.

As they chatted idly, a figure approached from the entrance of Ring Academy.

He was dressed in a suit, tall and well-built, with a serious-looking crew cut.

It was none other than Miss Su’s head of security, a peak Elite Level expert who appeared to be in his thirties—Wei Cangming.

"Captain Lu."

The man strode over, carrying a small briefcase in his hand.

"Supervisor Wei."

Lu Chao’s expression turned serious as he nodded in response.

’He had seen the man’s strength long ago: a peak Elite Level with 99 points of Life Energy, just a hair’s breadth away from breaking the 100-point barrier.’

’It seemed he was on the Fighter’s Path. Once he broke through, he would become a true Martial Artist.’

"Captain Lu is truly a young prodigy, breaking through to the Elite Level at such an age."

A flicker of admiration crossed Wei Cangming’s eyes as they met. He smiled. "I imagine Captain Lu won’t be staying on this security detail for much longer."

He clearly knew about the recommendations and exceptional promotions and was aware that Lu Chao would be leaving soon.

Lu Chao wasn’t surprised and nodded calmly.

However, he made a rare promise as their eyes met. "No matter how much longer I remain in this position, I will do my utmost to ensure Miss Su’s safety."

"On this point, I hope Supervisor Wei and Miss Su can rest assured."

Wei Cangming nodded, his sharp eyes bright, seeing the sincerity in Lu Chao’s gaze.

"The Miss and I naturally trust in Captain Lu’s character."

"Captain Lu, you don’t need to overthink it. I didn’t come here to cause trouble."

He smiled faintly, his words holding a deeper meaning, as if quietly reminding him about Mei Ning and the others.

’Lu Chao’s heart stirred. Only then did he remember that those people had been grounded for a month by Vice Director Zhou.’

’And calculating the time, their confinement should be ending soon. They might come looking for trouble again.’

"Thank you for the reminder, Supervisor Wei," he said, cupping his fist in gratitude.

"Heh, I didn’t say a thing."

Seeing that Lu Chao understood his meaning, Wei Cangming nodded to himself.

Then, he smiled and changed the subject, holding out the small briefcase.

"Supervisor Wei, this is..."

"The Miss is already aware that Captain Lu has broken through to the Elite Level."

His tone was solemn. Supervisor Wei said seriously, "She heard that Captain Lu is very interested in developing Superpower Potions, so she prepared a small gift to congratulate you. Please accept it."

Lu Chao was slightly taken aback.

’He hadn’t expected Miss Su to suddenly send such a gift.’

’When he thought about it, although he had saved her, the number of gifts and instances of help she’d provided had already exceeded the debt of gratitude she owed him.’
