Chapter 299: Chapter 299: Can Betas Pilot Mecha Now?
Seth Yates’s parents were a typical Alpha and Omega couple.
If she couldn’t clearly sense that the boy had no pheromones, Zoe Pierce would have thought he was an Alpha child.
Both his looks and personality had the typical characteristics of an Alpha.
He was very assertive and easily took on a leadership role.
Even though Tori was older, she had been listening to him without question ever since they appeared.
But statistically speaking, it was possible for even an Alpha and an Omega to have a Beta child.
The two children didn’t separate. Seth Yates sat beside Zoe Pierce, while Tori sat beside Miles Sherman.
They didn’t eat with the others at the rescue point. Everyone had packed plenty of supplies from the Capital Star in their Space Buttons before leaving. Even after several days of rescue operations, they still hadn’t run out of food.
A proper meal was enough to soothe their empty stomachs.
The two children ate politely and at a good pace.
After they finished eating, Aaron Xavier gave each of them a bottle of juice.
It was impossible to get something like this at the rescue point.
While the two were drinking their juice, Zoe Pierce moved around Nathan Lockwood and the others, touching each of their hands. Only after she had soothed them did she sit back down.
"Zoe." Once Seth Yates saw that Zoe Pierce had sat down, he looked at her and spoke.
"Could I trouble you to take a picture with us?" he asked. "We probably won’t have another chance to see you again, so we’d like to take a photo as a memento."
Thanks to Zoe Pierce participating in the friendship tournament, Seth Yates had been able to watch the entire competition, as his parents were an Alpha and an Omega.
He recognized Zoe Pierce, as well as Miles Sherman and the others.
The photo was meant to be a keepsake of Zoe Pierce saving them, a way to remember their savior.
Of course, there were other reasons too.
He and Teresa Yates had no family left. Having a photo that could be used as leverage wouldn’t hurt.
It was just a photo, which was no problem at all for Zoe Pierce.
As she stood with Seth Yates and Teresa Yates for the picture, Zoe Pierce subconsciously glanced at their wrists.
Seth Yates’s wrist was bare; he didn’t have an Intelligent Brain. It must have been lost somewhere.
"There’s no way to print it here. Zoe, could you send the photo to Tori?"
To send a photo, you had to add them as a friend.
It was Seth Yates’s first time doing something like this, and his gaze was a little unnatural. If Zoe Pierce and the others thought about it for even a moment, they would understand the boy’s intentions.
But Zoe Pierce had no intention of exposing him.
Once she understood why Seth Yates was doing it, all she could do was let out a long sigh.
She did as Seth Yates asked, adding Teresa Yates as a friend and sending the photo. Only then did the two children’s expressions relax a little.
Seth Yates knew his scheme was too obvious. His words of thanks now sounded much more sincere. "Thank you, Zoe."
Miles Sherman took the initiative. "I’ll take a picture with you two as well, if you don’t mind."
If you thought about it, it was easy to understand why Seth Yates had chosen to ask Zoe Pierce.
She was the only Omega on the team, and a woman. Even as a soldier, she was part of the most soft-hearted demographic.
Although he understood, Miles Sherman still hoped that if they really ran into trouble, they would come to him instead of Zoe Pierce.
Seth Yates didn’t refuse.
Even Aaron Xavier understood now.
One by one, they each took a photo with Seth Yates and the girl. Following the same pattern, they also added Tori’s contact information.
The small bonfire crackled.
Logically, Seth Yates and Teresa Yates should have left after the photos were taken. Although they were orphans, the rescue point had special agencies to care for children.
After the rescue operations on Planet C14 were complete, the agencies would verify each child’s identity. If they had relatives, the children would be sent to live with them. Those without relatives would be sent to special institutions that would raise them to adulthood.
The Federation’s basic welfare system was already well-established.
There were even special government stipends for children affected by the Xenobeast Tide.
But Seth Yates didn’t leave, and Teresa Yates kept glancing at him.
Zoe Pierce and the others saw this and waited in silence.
It was Aaron Xavier who couldn’t stand the silence. "Kid, what else do you want?"
As long as he said it, lending a hand wouldn’t be hard for Aaron Xavier.
Seth Yates’s gaze remained fixed on Zoe Pierce. After hearing Aaron Xavier’s words, which sounded a bit like he was shooing them away, he pursed his lips and asked, "Zoe..."
"There’s something I want to ask you." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Zoe Pierce crouched down to his eye level and met his gaze. "Okay, go ahead."
She had already noticed that from the moment they met, Seth Yates’s eyes were either on Teresa Yates or on her.
His gaze toward Teresa Yates was one of tension and worry, while the one toward her was hesitant and uncertain.
"You’re an Omega. How are you able to pilot a Mecha?"
Throughout the entire rescue point, after numerous rescue missions by Zoe Pierce and her team, many people knew that she, an Omega, could pilot a Mecha. Yet, only this child, Seth Yates, was the first to ask her this question.
Zoe Pierce paused for a moment before explaining, "It was an accident."
She herself didn’t know why her spiritual power had mutated; there was no way to explain it with scientific theory.
"So, it’s not that all Omegas can pilot Mechas now?"
Zoe Pierce nodded. "Most Omegas still use exoskeletons. You’ve probably seen them."
Besides her, there were other Omegas coming and going.
Hearing this answer, Seth Yates’s fingers tightened on the edge of his pants. He continued to ask, "Then... what about the Betas in the outside world? Can they all pilot Mechas now, too?"
Zoe Pierce didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she looked at Seth Yates.
"Why do you ask that?"
Seth Yates had asked about her based on seeing her as an example. But what about Betas?
"Did you see a Beta piloting a Mecha?"
The moment Seth Yates asked his question, Nathan Lockwood and the others furrowed their brows, their expressions turning serious.
Seth Yates didn’t miss the change in their expressions.
The fingers pinching the edge of his pants went from tense to relaxed. Smart as he was, he naturally understood the answer from her counter-question.
He pulled a piece of paper printed with only black text from his pocket.
The paper had been folded several times. It wasn’t until he unfolded it that they could see the words on it.
In the firelight, Zoe Pierce saw what the black text said.
A Method for Betas to Use Spiritual Power.
How to train the body, how to stimulate the nerves step-by-step, and finally, what kind of Mecha they could pilot.
At first glance, the title just seemed absurd.
But upon closer inspection, many of the details overlapped by at least seventy to eighty percent with the experimental records they had seen from Planet B36.
From their perspective, what was written on it could very well be true. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
And once they considered that possibility, it was enough to make one’s blood run cold.
That Terrorist Organization had actually publicly released the method for Betas to use spiritual power.
They were using the simplest methods of dissemination, targeting the inhabitants of specific Beta planets.
