Chapter 297: Chapter 297: Saved 2 Children
Most people only knew that the Terrorist Organization wanted to kidnap Zoe Pierce, but they didn’t know why. freewebnσvel.cѳm
But after the events of today, everyone would understand.
"Don’t worry too much about it."
For Zoe Pierce, making it public wasn’t without its benefits.
Zoe Pierce manipulated Gravity, slamming a flying Xenobeast directly onto Aaron Xavier’s longsword. "Not bad."
She paused, then hummed lightly. "That was pretty cool, wasn’t it?"
It was rare to see her in such a state.
Even though it was her own business, she was making light of it to ease the tension.
A few of them couldn’t help but chuckle. Chase Shaw let out a low laugh as well and said in his unique voice, "Very cool."
Though they felt it was more a kind of beauty.
The kind that made it impossible to look away.
Zoe Pierce put the matter aside and smiled. "Let’s hurry up and deal with these Xenobeasts."
The Mecha left a trail of exhaust in the sky. The Xenobeasts in this area had been all but wiped out.
Planet C14 had many pristine rainforests. In the large, modern residential cities, however, the forests and trees had long since been cleared, leaving only scattered greenery for landscaping.
However, there were also many "eco-cities" built to integrate with the natural environment, featuring totems preserved for tourism or commemoration.
Lush greenery, mysterious symbols, and buildings deliberately made to look ancient.
Zoe Pierce chased several fast-moving Xenobeasts all the way to one of these eco-cities.
After killing the Xenobeast in front of her, she finally looked up at the surrounding buildings. freewebnσvel.cøm
Trampled by the Xenobeasts, many of the houses had already collapsed.
The deliberately weathered buildings, crushed by snapped trees, had been reduced to ruins.
The Xenobeast detector showed no trace of them in the vicinity.
On her display, Nathan Lockwood and the others were also nearby.
Zoe Pierce was about to leave when she suddenly noticed another one of her instruments light up.
Halting her departure, she immediately looked in the direction the instrument was pointing.
It was the life-form detector.
She immediately headed toward the location marked by the device. The indicator light was orange, meaning the target’s vital signs were weak.
Zoe Pierce spoke into the comms channel. "I have someone who needs rescuing over here. I’m going in."
Chase Shaw replied, "I’m on my way."
His ability was the most useful for rescues.
His ability to manipulate the pressure exerted on a person could be a lifesaver.
Zoe Pierce proceeded as she would on any rescue mission, and her eyes fell upon a completely collapsed building.
The life-sign signals were coming from here.
Not one, but two.
She immediately extended her Perception and found them. Buried deep beneath the rebar, two children were tightly holding hands.
The slightly older one was an Omega girl, about ten years old.
The younger one was a Beta boy who looked to be only six or seven.
The little Beta boy was crying for help. He was shouting with all his might, but his voice was barely a whisper.
"Talia... please say something..."
"Is anyone going to save us?"
The Omega girl’s signal had already turned red.
Zoe Pierce’s brow furrowed.
The two were trapped in a stable triangular pocket of space. They were only able to fit because they were small children.
But the space was still too small, and the oxygen was running out.
The little girl’s leg was also crushed. If this went on, she would certainly die.
With no time to spare, she immediately lifted the rock crushing the girl’s leg, then used her Mecha to start tossing aside large chunks of rubble.
When Chase Shaw arrived, Zoe Pierce was already halfway through the excavation.
With Zoe Pierce’s Perception guiding Chase Shaw’s Gravity control, their progress was incredibly fast.
In the blink of an eye, the two children were uncovered.
As sunlight hit him for the first time, the boy struggled to open his eyes.
Zoe Pierce leaped out of her Mecha and pulled a Treatment Device from her Space Button.
It wasn’t as effective as a Healing Pod, but a quick treatment could stabilize them.
Only then did the little boy notice Zoe Pierce. "Miss... are you here to save us?"
Even covered in dirt and dust, the boy’s good looks couldn’t be hidden; he was as delicate and pretty as an Omega.
His voice was faint as he tugged at the hand he was holding. "Talia... please... save her..."
Zoe Pierce had grown accustomed to matters of life and death over several rescues, but at that moment, her heart still melted completely.
Her voice was gentle. "It’s okay. You’ve both been rescued. You’re going to be all right."
The Treatment Device healed both of their superficial wounds.
Seeing this, Chase Shaw took the less seriously injured boy. "Let’s go."
A shattered leg bone and internal injuries were beyond what the Treatment Device, which could only handle external wounds, could fix.
They needed a Healing Pod.
And Healing Pods, obviously, were only available at the rescue point.
Nathan Lockwood and Miles Sherman had come down as well.
Zoe Pierce looked around. "Check again for any other survivors."
Aaron Xavier zipped past in a flash, then returned and shook his head. "They’re all bodies."
Nathan Lockwood surveyed the location. It was too far from the main area designated by the authorities.
Plus, there were signs of a Xenobeast rampage everywhere, likely caused by creatures that had escaped from the main Xenobeast Tide. This area had been defenseless.
Most of the bloodstains seeped out from beneath the rubble.
Most people had been crushed to death.
Those who could run, had.
That’s why only these two were left.
His gaze fell upon the unconscious girl in Zoe Pierce’s arms. "Let’s go."
Carrying the children into their Mech Bays, the five Mechas flew toward the rescue point.
A trip that would take a Hovercar several days and nights took them only a few minutes with their boosters engaged.
Zoe Pierce set the little girl down at the rescue point, pointing out her bruised and unnaturally angled leg to the doctor.
The little boy was mostly fine aside from some exhaustion. Chase Shaw placed him on a small cot to the side, out of the way.
He had just set him down and was walking over when he heard Zoe Pierce say, "Could you please keep an eye on these two? I think they’re family."
Her voice paused. "They’re the only two left from their entire city. Thank you for your help."
The military doctor was remarkably efficient. He slipped special wristbands on the two children. "Don’t worry. You can leave them with us."
Zoe Pierce breathed a sigh of relief and followed Chase Shaw out.
Her Mecha was parked outside. Enduring the stares of the crowd, she climbed inside.
"Doctor! Doctor!"
"What is it?" The doctor glanced over at the man but didn’t see any obvious injuries.
The man pointed at the departing Mecha. "I think I’m hallucinating."
"An Omega is piloting a Mecha! I think I need my head examined."
The doctor: "..."
’Maybe you do need your head examined.’
The doctor said, annoyed, "You’ll have to wait to get your head examined. Not until the Healing Pods are free."
Shaking his head, the doctor hurried off to bandage another patient’s wounds.
