Chapter 584: Inheritance [I]
It has been two weeks since the incident happened. The birthday party that is supposed to be a happy celebration for the twins became a nightmare for both of them. Elaina ended up going into a coma with no signs of her waking up; Adelaide lost one of her eyes after she was attacked, and Arthur suffered a few bruises that were much milder compared to what his Mother and Sister suffered.
Alfred and the Harvest Goddess, who faced against Selena, gained a few wounds, but overall, they don’t have any problems that would be dangerous enough. Liliana healed their wounds, and they managed to recover quickly.
Only Elaina and Adelaide suffered the most out of them, to the point that Adelaide’s eye can no longer be restored and healed. She didn’t suffer too much damage, fortunately, but her eye will no longer function as it used to.
The Grand Sage at that time kept on apologizing, as he didn’t manage to even respond to the issue, as he was too absorbed in his research that by the time he caught wind of the battle, everything had already been resolved, and the remaining things left to do were to recover each of the wounded and get their wounds tended.
Julia also lamented her powerlessness after the incident and the fact that it was her own likeness that caused Elaina to get stabbed.
"This is all my fault! If I were strong enough, perhaps, I might have prevented her from even proceeding and doing her plans. If I only hadn’t collapsed and lost consciousness that time, I might have changed the course of the problem!" Julia has been crying on Elaina’s bed ever since the incident happened.
"Stop crying, Julia. Even Elaina might scold you for doing this. She would be sad if you continued to cry because of an accident that you didn’t even cause. You better get your act straight," Rakkan scratched his head in frustration, as he could also understand Julia’s grief.
They arrived late to the problem since they had to tend to Julia, whom they found unconscious at that time. This is already causing issues, but they can’t just leave, considering that they thought it was just a minor issue that could be dealt with; they didn’t think Elaina would fall victim in that small span of time.
But the problem never goes away, and the issue remains.
"Although Elaina is still breathing and her body is still alive, I can no longer sense her soul inside her body. It was like her soul has been removed entirely. That might be one of the reasons why she is no longer waking up," Liliana examined Elaina carefully. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"That might be the main case here as well. Her wounds might have been fatal, but she was quickly patched up by Yona that she shouldn’t have suffered much damage. And yet, she fell into a coma after that. As a medical practitioner, I shouldn’t really lean on that, and yet, her issue is very clear, and I can’t heal that, and it frustrates me so." Dr. Fey sighed, dejected. Even with her abilities to heal wounds, she couldn’t fully heal Elaina.
While the adults are lamenting, Adelaide and Arthur are surrounded by the other kids. They are currently checking up on both twins, who got up a few days ago after they finally recovered.
Compared to before, the twins are the most energetic in the group, but now, the two no longer have the same energy they showed before. They look like they have no energy to do anything, and their faces are sad.
"Ade, how are you now? Are you still in pain?" Mier asked, trying to talk with her.
"I am fine physically...but emotionally, not. I totally made the mistake and failed to save my Mother. What is the purpose of my powers and my training in the mines if I would only end up almost dying in one single attack? I am so useless that I even lost one of my eyes in the process. How humiliating and frustrating."
"Why are you blaming yourself, Ade? I am sure you did your best; it’s just that the enemy is just too strong," Layla tried consoling Adelaide, who was already downgrading her effort that time.
Before Adelaide could say anything, Arthur sat beside his twin and sighed. "Don’t blame yourself, twin. There is only so much we can do, and even if we can, there is no way we can handle things ourselves. You should be happy that even with our bare effort, we managed to catch her attention and stop her from targeting Mom and finish her off. Without us doing that, who knows what would happen?"
"I know that...but still, why are we so pathetic? A single hit and we all got knocked out. We couldn’t even help Father defend Mother at all. Don’t blame yourself for all of this."
"We are here if you need anyone to talk to, Ade, Arthy. Both of you suffered so much. We will do what we can." Mier tried her best to console Adelaide, but it wasn’t working well.
"I appreciate what you are doing, guys. But can you please leave us alone with my twin for now? We needed to talk."
The others nodded, understanding what Adelaide wanted. The group dispersed, leaving the twins alone.
"Are you going to cry now?" Arthur smiled, tapping Adelaide’s back.
"Me? As if I will cry. You know I will not cry."
"Hahaha, I know you that much. Still, to think that what we see in our futures would actually lead to this. Those scars in my body in the future ball are the same scars I have right now. And here I thought I would get those as scars of battles I endured, only for me to receive those scars in one single one-sided battle."
Adelaide touches her eyepatch. "Yeah, so that is the main reason I will be wearing an eyepatch as well. That is quite a tragedy for me."
"When do you think Mother will wake up, though?" Arthur asked.
"They said that Mother’s case is complicated. There might be a chance she will not wake up. But I will do whatever it takes for her to wake up again. "
"Same."
The two were so eager to do it that they didn’t realize a green parrot was flying near them and landed on the table near them. They were so surprised when the parrot started speaking.
"So, you two are ready to do whatever it takes to have her wake up again?" fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Adelaide pulls out her dagger wand while Arthur stops her.
"What do you want?" Adelaide is quite hostile, while Arthur stops her.
"Chill out, Ade. I think this is the bird that Mother always speaks with. Put down your weapon for now."
Although she is reluctant to do so, Arthur convinces her that she decided to do so. Arthur decided to communicate with it.
"Are you the bird that my mother always speaks with? I have seen you a couple of times before."
"Oho, good eye. Yes, indeed. Let me introduce myself to you two. I am the God of Farming, and right now, I have a mission for both of you. This mission is related to your mother, who is now in a coma. If you two are willing to do it, I might be able to assist you two in waking her back up, so are you two in?"
