Chapter 439: Chapter 432: Are You Afraid of Me?

Director Keane was talking with Clara Grant. He glanced behind her, then asked with a smile, "Where’s President Quinn? You have such a brilliant scene today. Isn’t he coming to watch?"

As he spoke, he sighed inwardly. ’Good heavens, their relationship is finally out in the open. I don’t have to keep covering for them anymore.’

A flicker of discomfort crossed Clara Grant’s face. She said evasively, "He... had something else to do, so he had to rush back. Um, Director, isn’t it about time? I need to hurry and get my makeup on."

"Yes, yes, go on." Director Keane nodded.

Clara Grant hurried to the makeup room. As she reached the entrance, a few people were just pushing the door open to leave. They all smiled and greeted her when they saw her.

"Clara, you’re back?"

"Clara, we’re going to watch your big scene later!"

"Yeah, Clara, we can learn a thing or two from your performance. You’ve got this!"

"..."

Clara Grant smiled a little bashfully, nodded to each of them, and walked inside.

Sandra’s makeup touch-up had taken longer than expected, so she had only just finished. She was standing in front of the mirror adjusting her hair when she heard the departing actresses’ greetings. Her hands stilled, and she glanced toward the door. Upon seeing Clara Grant walk in, her expression instantly turned cold. She shot Clara an undisguised glare before turning back to the mirror to continue fixing her hair.

Eric, who was tidying up his makeup tools, saw Clara Grant and immediately greeted her with a smile. "Clara, you’re back? Tony just stepped out. I’ll go get him."

Tony had always been the one to do Clara Grant’s makeup, so he was more skilled at it and worked faster.

Since they were already on a tight schedule, having Tony do it would save time.

Clara Grant nodded and said with a smile, "Thanks."

Eric smiled and shook his head. As he brushed past her, he shot Sandra a silent, disapproving glare, as if warning Clara to be careful.

Clara Grant nodded again, acknowledging the warning.

After Eric left, only Clara Grant and Sandra remained in the makeup room.

While adjusting the bun in her hair, Sandra let out a cold, disdainful snort. "Hmph, what a bunch of suck-ups! The moment someone gets a little power, they all come crawling to kiss up. Tch. So what if she latched onto a powerful man and got a temporary boost? Big deal!"

Although she seemed to be muttering to herself, her voice was loud enough for Clara Grant, who was standing some distance away, to hear clearly.

Clara, of course, knew the comments were meant for her. She paid them no mind, simply lowering her gaze with a resigned smile. Then, she lifted her head and walked toward Sandra.

Sandra saw Clara approaching from behind in the mirror. A flash of panic crossed her face as she spun around, backing up against the makeup counter. She watched warily as Clara drew closer step by step. "Clara Grant, what do you want?"

Clara didn’t stop, taking a few more steps toward her before finally halting. She raised an eyebrow and smiled. "What’s the matter? Are you afraid of me?"

"I... why would I be afraid of you? What a joke." Despite her words, a flicker of fear still crossed Sandra’s face.

’Ever since Clara had thrown her phone into the water and destroyed the evidence Sandra was going to use to frame her, she knew. Clara Grant was definitely not as weak and easy to bully as she looked. The woman had a ruthless side.’

Clara didn’t miss the flicker of panic on her face. She gave a noncommittal smile, then reached into her bag, pulled out a new phone, and held it out to her. "Here. To replace your phone."

A flicker of surprise crossed Sandra’s face. She glanced at the brand-new box in Clara’s hand but didn’t reach out to take it.
