Chapter 1225: Chapter 1225: Trying to Accept

Dong Le was sitting beside her, noticing Lan Xi’s unusual demeanor, and asked, "Xiao Xi, what’s wrong?"

Lan Xi shook her head, "Nothing."

He suggested tentatively, "How about you play a couple of rounds?"

"I’ll wait for Brother Lu Hao to come back." Lan Xi’s interest was lackluster, her gaze frequently glued to the doorway, her heart filled with anxiety, fearing that he would leave and not return.

Dong Le knew her thoughts all too well, feeling a bit depressed. She was always like this, as long as Lu Hao was around, her attention would always be solely on him.

Before long, Lu Hao came back and continued playing cards, showing no sign of leaving.

The worry in Lan Xi’s heart was instantly relieved, and she became more cautious and gentle.

After playing for a while, Jiang Jingheng suggested they call it a night.

The others, preoccupied with their own concerns, also had no mind to play.

After Mu Yan, Jiang Jingheng, and the other pairs left, Zheng Lu Hua was sent back by Song Cheng’an.

Jian Shaohan stood at the intersection, watching Song Cheng’an’s car drive away. Reflecting on the afternoon’s events, he grew more and more frustrated; all night, she barely glanced at him, not caring about him at all.

They say women can be more ruthless than men when they turn cold, but her change was simply too drastic.

Dong Le, the only one left, hooked his arm around Jian Shaohan’s shoulder and said, "I see you have no intention of going home to sleep, how about we go for a couple more drinks?"

Jian Shaohan glanced at him, "Not in a good mood?"

"Who says that? I’m here to keep you company, aren’t I?"

Jian Shaohan snorted lightly. He had grown up with Dong Le from childhood; how could he not understand his thoughts?

"Lan Xi is already engaged to Brother Lu Hao, and they’re about to get married. It’s time you gave it up, don’t strain brotherly bonds."

"I know." Dong Le smiled gently.

But knowing is one thing; he still held some unrealistic hopes in his heart.

Jian Shaohan didn’t know how to persuade him, especially with his own situation being so complicated.

"Come on, we two brothers must have a good drink tonight."

Back at the villa where the two lived together post-engagement, Lan Xi looked nervously at him, asking, "Brother Lu Hao, are you going out tonight?"

Lu Hao gave her a surprised look, "Not going out, what’s up?"

"Nothing." Lan Xi hurriedly said, her heart leaping with joy, barely able to contain the smile on her lips.

Afraid he might see through her thoughts, she explained, "I’m a bit scared being alone."

They only started living together after getting engaged. Even though the engagement day wasn’t very pleasant, she repeatedly told herself it was all Zhao Jia Min’s fault; she was the one coveting Lu Hao, it had nothing to do with Lu Hao.

See, Lu Hao didn’t even go out to see her, right?

Lu Hao thought it was something else, patted her head, and said, "You’re a grown-up now, what’s there to be scared of? Go take a bath and get ready for bed."

"Okay." Lan Xi nodded furiously, stealing several glances at him before heading upstairs.

Lu Hao watched her back with a smile, a trace of indulgence in his eyes.

After she went upstairs, he suddenly breathed a sigh of relief.

Although they were engaged, he still couldn’t quickly transition her in his mind from a little sister to a fiancée, always feeling a bit awkward.

However, probably due to knowing each other since childhood, she was less worrisome than other women.

Since she decided to marry him, he would try to accept it.

In the bedroom on the second floor, Lan Xi, after bathing, lay in bed, her face red as a boiled duck. Under the blanket, her hands tightly clutched the nightwear she had on. Seducing a man was something she was doing for the first time, especially since the object was him; she dared not act coquettishly or send flirtatious glances as her friend suggested. Just putting it on had used up all her courage.

Thinking of what might happen next, she was both nervous and a bit expectant.
