Chapter 2669: Chapter 1802: The Forgotten World
The fact that there was a human world in the Eye of Fear already surprised Duanmu Huai, but when he learned about the situation inside, he was even more shocked—it was a complete church world.
Even for the people on that planet, their biggest problem at the moment was not the attack from the Demons but an internal revolt.
As for why the Unified Divine Realm chose to save this world, according to Isis, through the power of prophecy, she saw that beneath the residents lay a volcano on the verge of eruption. Once it erupts, it would completely destroy their small world. Therefore, she hoped the Tribunal could send someone to escort them away to a new settlement.
This was not a battle against the Demon King, so the Tribunal initially only sent a scouting team. If the Night Guards hadn’t set the Tribunal’s anchor point according to the plan and made it appear on Duanmu Huai’s star map, this would indeed be a minor matter.
But now the situation is different.
Standing on the ground, Duanmu Huai squinted his eyes, cautiously and vigilantly observing everything around him. Naturally, he wouldn’t dare to venture into the Eye of Fear himself, as given Duanmu Huai’s stature as a True God, entering the Eye of Fear would certainly attract a warm welcome from the lurking peddlers.
In the real world, Duanmu Huai could still fight them, but in Subspace... Duanmu Huai believed that even a strong dragon would not oppress a local snake, and there’s no way he could compete with those who have been rolling in this cosmic dump since birth.
Of course, just looking at the view ahead, no one would think this was a colossal junkyard.
The land was barren, and the purplish-red starry sky flickered overhead as Duanmu Huai stepped out of the Teleportation Portal, seeing this scene—a vast landscape devoid of life. He chose to investigate with his avatar rather than foolishly open the final battleground directly. Presently, Duanmu Huai was dressed the same as when he was in Hei Chuan Chi Yin’s world, in pitch-black Power Armor with the Double-Headed Eagle emblem, carrying a Chainsaw Sword on his back. The sealed helmet coldly shut out all external influences, and in Subspace, the armor, born again from the fantasies of hundreds of thousands of people, wrapped around Duanmu Huai’s body.
Duanmu Huai climbed the hill, with a blood-red ocean on the other side. This was the Eye of Fear, a twisted realm where reality had lost all meaning. Originally, this should be the case, but even so, Duanmu Huai could feel that there seemed to be some kind of order here, like a thin barrier restraining Subspace’s erosion of this planet.
Was it the Blackrock Spire? But it didn’t feel like it. The Space Undead’s technology was for stabilizing reality, but Duanmu Huai sensed this felt more like a seal.
Duanmu Huai withdrew his gaze, looking at the Night Guard standing before him.
"Report the situation."
"Yes, Your Honor."
One of the Night Guards quickly spoke up.
"We arrived in this world three hours ago and set the anchor point. Then we started our search from there. About twenty minutes later, we discovered a settlement of residents to the northeast. We communicated with them, and they expressed a desire to find a safer place, but not here. Plus, the dangers along the way make it difficult for them to trek this journey... As it stands, their survival odds aren’t great."
"Did you find any threats?"
"No threats have been discovered yet."
"............"
Duanmu Huai contemplated for a moment, then looked at the Night Guard.
"Standby in place and guard the Teleportation Portal."
"Yes."
To be on the safe side, when Duanmu Huai sent his avatar over, he had already mobilized hundreds of Night Guards from the Unified Divine Realm to completely seal the Teleportation Portal leading to this world. No one is allowed to pass through except him.
Duanmu Huai continued forward, following the Night Guard’s description to find the human settlement. Surprisingly to Duanmu Huai, the situation there was much better than he expected. Although the whole city looked a bit shabby, it was still intact. The churches and spires standing within the city seemed to still attest to the city’s past glory, everything looking orderly.
This made Duanmu Huai’s hackles rise; he narrowed his eyes, gripping the hilt of his Chainsaw Sword. In a world that distorts reality as its duty, where any normal concept is overturned, a normal world itself is abnormal.
However, when Duanmu Huai touched the thermite bomb at his waist, his heart relaxed considerably.
What’s the problem? At worst, a blast and all worries gone.
When Duanmu Huai arrived at the city gate, he saw two soldiers in PDF Military Uniforms. They were holding standard Imperial Weapons, behaving like legitimate Imperial Soldiers.
To say the least, it was quite strange for Duanmu Huai.
Seeing Duanmu Huai’s appearance, the soldiers also tensed up, staring at him. But Duanmu Huai ignored their gaze, walking directly up to them.
"I am Grand Judge Duanmu Huai of the Tribunal. I want your leader to come out to meet me within ten minutes."
"Yes, Your Honor... We’ll report immediately."
The Guards looked at Duanmu Huai’s Battle Armor nervously while quickly saluting him. Obviously, they knew what the Tribunal was and what a Judge was. This somewhat comforted Duanmu Huai since, after all this time traveling through, encountering people who obediently align once hearing the Tribunal’s name are not many.
For most people, it’s "Tribunal, what is that thing?"
Then Duanmu Huai would have to use blood and death to show them what the Tribunal really is.
This is the attitude others should have towards the Tribunal.
Duanmu Huai waited for five minutes, and saw an armored vehicle speeding over. Then a bald, plump man dressed like a nobleman huffing and puffing got off the vehicle. He was wearing what might have been his original military uniform, but from the almost bursting buttons and the badges hanging on his chest, this once brave and battle-hardened Imperial official had now become a fat pig.
"Ah, welcome to this place, Your Honor, the Judge."
The fat man wiped the sweat off his forehead, then comically bowed to Duanmu Huai.
"I am the current governor here, Chek."
"Temporary?"
Duanmu Huai raised an eyebrow.
"What happened to the previous governor?"
"He died, he endured too much suffering and eventually chose to offer his soul to The Emperor, wishing that his tortured soul could rest in peace."
The temporary governor took a breath, as if just saying this sentence consumed a lot of his energy.
"It’s my honor to meet you, Great Judge. We knew, the Empire would never abandon its people."
"............"
Hearing this, Duanmu Huai’s mouth twitched slightly.
"Let’s go, on the way, I require to know all the circumstances here."
"Alright, Great Judge, please follow me."
In the armored vehicle heading for the Governor’s House, Duanmu Huai listened to this governor explaining the situation here. Surprisingly, they did not know they were inside the Eye of Fear, according to the current governor’s statement, they were merely an ordinary Colonial Planet of the Empire, but he couldn’t clarify what they were specifically responsible for.
All in all, according to the governor, one day they woke up, only to find their communications with the Empire broke down. At first, they thought it might be some kind of subspace interference. But gradually, they found out that on the day of tax collection, the Empire’s tax officials did not come, which surprised them.
After all, the Empire, no matter what, would never abandon tax collection.
Although everyone knew the situation was unusual, nobody knew exactly what had happened. This planet itself didn’t have any armed forces or warships. So they could only continue living day by day, in the blink of an eye, it has been nearly fifty years. Although the weird celestial phenomena are somewhat strange, people gradually got used to life here.
At least in this city, self-sufficiency hasn’t been a problem.
All along the way, the fat governor boasted to Duanmu Huai about how he maintained a fervent, Emperor-believing heart despite losing contact with the Empire, and after taking over the position from the previous governor, how he quelled disputes and united everyone to overcome difficulties.
Clearly, he seemed to genuinely view Duanmu Huai as the Empire-dispatched Judge, investigating the Colonial Planet on behalf of the Empire. Therefore, he hoped Duanmu Huai would speak highly of him to The Emperor, not only that...
This is truly troublesome.
Duanmu Huai secretly calculated that this planet should have been swallowed by the Eye of Fear during the 40K era. However, to the people here, they did not know that thousands of years had passed outside. Well, although the confusion of time is normal in subspace, why is it that only this planet was spared?
Could it be that over the years, the demons and Chaos Legion inside the Eye of Fear have continuously ignored this planet? How is that possible? Of course, theoretically, subspace is infinitely large, and distances, time, and any real data have no effect here. With a billion-to-one chance, this planet might be stuck in the crevice between subspace and reality, allowing it to survive.
This possibility isn’t impossible, like a person jumping from a hundred-story building but landing smoothly unharmed— theoretically, even if he has a 99.99% chance of dying, it’s uncertain he can survive unscathed with that 0.01% chance.
But is it possible?
Are they just lucky? Or......
Listening to the boasting of the fat governor in front of him, Duanmu Huai’s gaze became increasingly grave.
The situation seems even stranger than I imagined.
