Chapter 129: Face To Face
"And that’s four," Hajime muttered under his breath as he knocked another guy out. For the past few minutes, he felt a tad bit nervous since he felt like he was running a military operation all by himself. And there was something about the eerie atmosphere of the house that sent chills up and down his spine. However, after knocking out the fourth guy he encountered as soon as he entered the place, he felt like he could do it.
Hajime pocketed another taser he got from the fourth guy, and that makes three tasers at his disposal. He had no idea why he needed three tasers in the first place but for now, he was just hoarding as much as he could.
His instinctive movements made him as quiet as a mouse. And the people who were lingering inside the residence couldn’t even sense him. Of course, they’re bound to find out soon enough that Hajime had escaped, but as long as no alerts were sounded, they wouldn’t.
The infiltration had a couple of hiccups here and there, but Hajime managed to root himself inside the house and no one had seen him. At this rate, he’d be able to rescue Megumi and more. Balancing a taser, he proceeded to hunt the next guy.
Right now, he was in some sort of a huge living room with plenty of hiding spaces behind the circle of couches in the middle. However, there were a lot of corridors that branched out of this particular room, making it harder for Hajime to watch his six at all times.
Without wasting any second, he proceeded to walk into one of the corridors as quickly as he could while holding the taser in front of him. He was holding it with both hands as if wielding a sword— albeit unnecessary, it gave him reassurance since he was holding some sort of weapon.
Upon reaching the corridor, Hajime came face to face with two guards who were casually walking around. Hajime flinched, almost dropping the taser in his hand, but he was able to maintain his composure. In one swift motion, Hajime crouched impulsively after seeing the guard reach for his gun (for some reason, this particular guard had a gun with him). He then pressed the taser on his thigh.
At the same time, Hajime reached into his pockets and grabbed a taser. For a moment, he thought that he’d fumble but fortunately, his left hand didn’t betray him. With another taser in hand, Hajime made a stabbing motion, aiming for the second guard’s neck.
Their dance of electrocution was certainly amusing, but Hajime didn’t have the luxury to watch them suffer. After knocking the two of them, he started running deeper into the house. He knew that it was only a matter of time before other guards found them.
The reason why he didn’t bother hiding their bodies was that there was nowhere to hide them. Adding to that, it would only be a waste of time if he were to drag the two of them to the living room. The long corridor is also an open space. If another guard found him, he’d surely be held at gunpoint and there would be no escape for him. This thought process occurred in Hajime’s mind as soon as he met the two guards. That’s why he was able to move without hesitation after knocking both of them.
Hajime sprinted until he reached a corner, and then he proceeded to head blindly down another corridor. He figured that if he were to go in every corridor, he’d be able to locate where Megumi was in no time. All this time, though, he started muttering a silent prayer, hoping that the mastermind wouldn’t find him before he gets to Megumi.
That’s where he was mistaken though.
At the very moment he entered the premises, the mastermind himself was already notified of his presence. Hajime was too focused on his enemies that he didn’t even notice the hidden cameras littered around the place. But then again, it would be hard to see them since they were tucked in corners, and their size is incomparably small compared to other regular CCTV cameras. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
But why were the guards unaware of his presence? That was because the men monitoring the cameras decided not to raise an alarm. Or rather, they were ordered by Ricardo Basilio himself.
...
Meanwhile,
"Then... if my dad gives you the money, are you going to let go of us?" Megumi asked. She knew that criminals who can go as far as to kidnap someone has a few loose screws in the head. Even without asking the obvious, she was well aware that the man in front of her has no intention of letting her go, much less Hajime.
A sinister smile appeared on Ricardo Basilio’s face. "Of course... why would I let you go? I can demand much more than money from your dad if that were to happen. Besides, you’re our one-way ticket out of here."
A guard slowly approached Ricardo Basilio, whispering something in his ear. Somehow, his smile got even wider. "Thanks, I’ll deal with him myself." He muttered before he stood up.
Jerking his thumb towards Megumi, he ordered his men to watch over her, reminding them that he didn’t want any ’funny business’ happening. The men smiled as they nodded toward him. Obviously, they were planning to do something behind his back. It was already a given when he left her on their watch.
Megumi’s pupils dilated as she watched Ricardo Basilio sauntering away. There was no way she’d call out to him, but that’d be a better option than being left with the guards who were lecherously looking at her.
Slam!
Before Ricardo could open the door in front of him, it suddenly slammed open, causing him to step back. On the other side of the door was Hajime, who had carelessly revealed himself to the mastermind as well as the rest of his underlings.
"Shoot!" Hajime almost let out a bad word in his mouth as he impulsively brought the taser on Ricardo’s hips. It was a clean hit, and Ricardo was brought to his knees as the electricity got the better of him.
Nevertheless, the surprise attack wasn’t enough to knock him unconscious. Before Hajime could celebrate in his mind, Ricardo pulled out a knife and stabbed Hajime with it.
