Chapter 112: The Police Station

"Two incidents. Two incidents in two days and somehow you’re caught up in both of them." Even with the slight anger in Akamine-sensei’s voice, Hajime could still the kindness mixed within her tone like the calm in the middle of the raging storm. Her reaction was reasonable though since Hajime really did find himself in the middle of the two incidents despite trying to act normal all throughout the school trip.

...

The police station was situated in one of the busiest parts of Tokyo so the response was quick. The moment the girls arrived there and narrated their story, a group of policemen immediately joined them at the scene. They didn’t ask additional questions since time was of the essence, and judging from the girls’ expressions, they could tell that they weren’t messing around and causing problems for the authorities.

When they arrived there, though, they saw Hajime and Keiichi standing by the mouth of a nearby alleyway. And there, three men were knocked out cold. It wasn’t just Keiichi who got surprised by the outcome of the entire situation, but even the policemen were shocked to see that the two of them came out unharmed.

"These guys, I know who they are." One of the policemen muttered as he ordered his men to handcuff the three men. "They are members of a gang that proliferate in the area around here. The slippery bastards— they prey on high schoolers, committing assaults and theft. Crimes are nothing major, but their group has gotten over the years, harassing locals and tourists alike. I’m surprised you were able to deal with three of them." The policeman said, patting Hajime on the shoulder.

Based on the policeman’s grip on his shoulder., Hajime concluded that he should go with them to the police station for questioning. After all, he was just as suspicious as the three men who suffered a heavy defeat against him. Without saying anything, Hajime nodded to the policeman in response. He then stole a quick glance towards the policeman’s name.

His name tag had the surname ’Nakanishi’ on it.

.....

Akamine-sensei was in the middle of monitoring her class when she received a phone call from Hajime’s group. The moment she heard about the kidnapping scene involving Megumi and the others, she excused herself from the tour and grabbed one of the teachers to replace her as the overseer of her class.

There was no time to call for a cab so she decided to remove her heels and run all the way to the police station. It was almost lunchtime, and the arid heat that bore down on her skin made her uncomfortable. Still, she continued running, pushing other passers-by to the side just so she could get to the police station a second sooner. To her, everyone was still in danger, and she was right to assume such since she wasn’t updated about the situation. For all she knows, Hajime and Keiichi were still being held captive by the three men who cornered them out of nowhere.

"Hajime... I hope you’re all right." She muttered to herself. In the phone call, she was told that Hajime blocked the three men just so all the girls could get away. Even though he didn’t have to step up, he still did just so he could ensure the safety of all the ladies. Hence Akamine-sensei’s worry. Hajime was the one who faced the danger alone, and his gesture could actually garner the fury of the kidnappers.

Despite the sweltering heat, and the sweat that trickled down her forehead and down her back, Akamine-sensei continued her sprint. Her breathing was starting to get ragged, but she pressed forward, one step in front of the other.

When she got to the police station, she was a mess of sweat, dust, and disheveled hair. She was panting as she tip-tapped her bare feet on the welcome rug in front of the police station— trying to shake off the heat from the pavement since she ran barefoot.

"Hajime? Hajime?!" She exclaimed, her head darting in every direction while she panicked.

Meanwhile, Hajime just sat there, seeing everything unfold the moment Akamine-sensei stepped foot inside the police station. He sipped on the canned juice that Nakanishi handed him, trying to hide his secondhand embarrassment as Akamine-sensei continued to frantically search for him.

’I’m right in front of you, sensei,’ Hajime said in his mind but there was no way he could say it out loud. It took every cell in his being to even watch their homeroom teacher as she lost her composure.

It didn’t take long before Akamine-sensei noticed where Hajime was. He was right in front of her! She was too out of it that she failed to notice. Hajime was right there, and he was trying so hard to suppress the redness on his face due to the commotion she caused.

"Sigh~ Hajime... I’m just glad you’re all right." Akamine-sensei muttered, sitting down on the opposite chair which faced Hajime.

"Sensei... are you all right?" Hajime worriedly asked. One of the policemen ran towards the water dispenser to fetch her some.

"Thanks," Akamine-sensei muttered before turning towards Hajime. Her aura changed in an instant, and she was somewhat frowning as she finished the water in the cup handed to her.

"Two incidents..."

"How do you get yourself in that much trouble? Sigh~ this is why you’ve been labeled a delinquent in school." Akamine-sensei muttered to herself. frёeωebɳovel.com

"I didn’t have any choice, sensei, they attacked us out of nowhere."

"Still, why did you put yourself in harm’s way like that? I get that you did it to save everyone else... but still..."

"..."

"Nakanishi,"

Akamine-sensei and Hajime’s whisper conversation was interrupted by another police calling Nakanishi’s name. Nakanishi is the police that handled the three men whom Hajime caught. He was also tasked to question Hajime about what happened.

"Yes, sir?" Nakanishi suddenly stood up and saluted the police approaching him. He was none other than the chief of police.
