Chapter 106: Greediness
"Yeah, of course, it’s not that expensive," Keiichi said, trying to convince himself as his animosity towards Hajime grew. His shoulders began to shake as his sharp stare penetrated through the crowd and towards Hajime who had already started eating his sushi comfortably.
Megumi also decided to sit beside Hajime, and Keiichi took the chair on her opposite side. As for Shizuka, she just took the end seat beside Kaori and proceeded to eat.
"Whoa~! This is delicious!" Kaori voiced out, downing three sushis in one gulp while conversing with Hajime in between bites. "Here, try this one, it’s really good! Shizuka, you try it too."
Instead of enjoying Megumi’s company, Keiichi was now oddly silent, regretting the fact that he had to rile up Hajime like that. However, just like Hajime, he also had his pride so there was no way he won’t get back at Hajime. Before the end of the day, he swore to get his sweet revenge like a little kid whose candy was stolen from him.
’Now that I think about it— yeah, there’s no way Hajime could pay for his sushi. I’ve done some background checks on him. He’s living alone and he recently stopped working at a construction site. He doesn’t have money right now haha~ this guy is just bluffing.’ One thought led to another and after a few seconds, Keiichi didn’t feel bad at all. It was an awkward feeling of acceptance and it worked for him.
’He’s probably going to ask me for a favor later... like pay for his sushi and all. There’s no way I’d pay for him hahah~ let’s see him act uncomfortable later.’ A sinister smile spread across his face. ƒrēewebnovel.com
However, Hajime didn’t hold back with his orders at all. Plates upon plates of sushi came in and he even went as far as to offer some sushi to Megumi and her group. He was just as calm and composed as everyone, enjoying the food and each other’s company as the sushi kept on coming.
Keiichi was starting to feel uneasy. He just couldn’t read his mind.
’Whatever, it’s not like I can’t afford this.’ Minutes later, Keiichi finally gave up, giving Hajime a pass for later. He started talking to Megumi, trying to get closer to her even though it was obvious that he didn’t have the slightest chance.
"And why did you come to my school?" Megumi finally asked as she tried to suppress her annoyance towards Keiichi. It’s not like she was annoyed that Keiichi came to Dai Yama High School, but rather, she could tell that Keiichi came to that school because of her. She didn’t have to think that hard about it. It was obvious to boot.
"I transferred after I got back from Europe. I’m not that particular with schools so I figured I’d just go to Dai Yama so I can attend it with someone I know." Keiichi responded. Of course, he was referring to Megumi. Who else?
Megumi heaved a sigh. ’A simple reason... but did he really go through all that just because I ditched him on one of our scheduled meals together?’ She asked herself.
.....
A couple of minutes later, the group was finally done with the sushi appetizer. It was already in the middle of the morning with the sun almost directly overhead— a limbo time for brunch and lunch. Still, Hajime had eaten his fill, so much so that he was beginning to doubt whether he could eat lunch or not. Nevertheless, Hajime was ready for round two.
As for Keiichi, he still couldn’t believe that Hajime really paid for his order. He just got a couple of bills from his pockets and handed them to one of the waiters. He even had the nerve to leave his change as a tip— a bold move for someone dirt poor.
"That Hajime... where did he get all that money?" Keiichi asked himself, suppressing the urge to bite on his thumbs as he contemplated the matter. "Perhaps... he got it from somewhere illegally? No, there’s also the possibility that he saved up quite a hefty sum after working at the construction site. Yeah... we can’t rule out that fact."
A smile once again spread across Keiichi’s face as he concocted another plan in his mind. There was no way Hajime had more money than him. "All right, it’s time for plan b."
"What are you talking about?" Megumi suddenly showed up beside Keiichi, a bit puzzled since he was talking to himself.
"N-nothing!" Keiichi scratched his head in an awkward manner before pointing forward. "I know of a pretty nice aquarium place! Let’s go there before we get lunch."
.....
Three men walked out of the sushi place, rubbing their stomachs while laughing at each other. They just had the best breakfast in Tokyo, and that’s because a high school student paid for their sushi without even batting an eye.
"Man, that sushi was fire!"
"Yeah, lucky! We still have enough money to hit the casinos... who’s coming with me?"
"Nah, I have better plans." The lanky man in the group spoke up, adjusting his glasses as he pointed his lips towards Hajime’s group. He had the creepiest of smiles amongst the group, and his hand movements were even weirder than his pointy lips.
"You mean..."
"Yeah?" The lanky man responded, nodding towards the other two. They totally get what he was talking about.
After all, how could a young man like that spend so much money? No ordinary kid would walk into a fancy sushi restaurant and offer to pay for everyone’s bills— unless, of course, he’s no ordinary kid. And as the three men could tell, that ’no ordinary’ high school kid is going to serve as their prey for today.
"Know what? That’s a great idea." The taller and more muscular man spoke up, grabbing the lanky man on the shoulder and squeezing it. "Take the lead, we’re gonna have some bread tonight." He continued, chuckling under his breath like a maniac.
